If you get ESPN U, you can do just that tonight when Skyline HS (Issaquah), led by QB man crush Jake Heaps, takes on Bothell HS at 5 p.m. (not 7 p.m., as I reported earlier. Sorry.)
Heaps, a junior, is roundly considered the best QB prospect in the class of 2010. How big is he? During last week's win over Issaquah HS, Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis was on the sidelines. (Weis' Irish just happened to be in town for their beatdown of UW -- how convenient!)
He does not appear to be considering WSU; however, he is supposedly considering Washington. I'm sure it had nothing to do with Tyrone Willingham hiring Heaps' former coach, Steve Gervais, as his running backs coach before this season.
I'm not saying Willingham hired Gervais -- one of the most successful high school coach in the history of the state with six championships -- to get at Heaps and, to a lesser degree, receiver Gino Simone (who wisely committed to WSU in August), BUT ... let's just say you don't ever see high school coaches get hired to college staffs unless there's a player involved.
Of course, who knows what's going to happen with Heaps now that Gervais will be out of a job at the end of the year. He's also said to be considering Arizona State, BYU, Cal, Oregon State and South Carolina, all of whom have reportedly offered scholarships.
Maybe Wulff can "hire" Gervais on his staff and get in late ...
