College Basketball Prospectus Anyone? (And a Video!)

Has anyone here possibly picked up, either for purchase or glance, the 2008 College Basketball Prospectus?

I might see if I can't find it at Barnes and Noble and I'll share what I see there if I do, but in case anyone has already looked at it: is it worth the purchase for a serious hoops fan?

And, more importantly (ULTERIOR MOTIVE ALERT), what does it specifically say about WSU this year? Though they don't have the track record of their Baseball bretheren, Basketball Prospectus is starting to earn my respect, at the very least I'm eager to hear what they've got to say.

Just wondering. If the answer is "no" then this fanpost shall sit here and no one will have anything to say.

I know I promised a video, but apparently you can't embed videos in these fan posts. I was going to post this.

So as not to totally waste your time, though: here's a totally unrelated comic strip!

BUY IT!!!!!!

If you really want to know and understand college hoops — and sound really smart in your analysis — this is a GREAT place to start.

As you read this year, you’ll see that I reference the Basketball Prospectus guys and their stats heavily. Pomeroy and Gasaway are the best, and Pomeroy’s stats are indispensable. It will bend your mind and challenge your assumptions about the sport (much like their baseball brethren), but make you much smarter in the process if you’re open minded about it.

This book is fantastic news. I didn’t know they were producing this book this year. It’s the first one they’ve ever done. I’m going to try and get my hands on it, too. But if you get your hands on it first and write up a nice FanPost, we’ll put it on the front page.

But, if any of you don’t want to buy the book and just want to see what kind of analysis they provide, you can go here. They post articles all the time, and it’s standard reading for me throughout the season.

PS: For video, you’ve got to do a FanShot, I think.

In an six person ESPN league, I filled out 10 brackets.

In one of them, I simply picked the higher rated Pomeroy team in every game.

That bracket DOMINATED.

I picked it up in Barnes and Noble today.

Didn’t buy it, just read through. I WANT to buy it, but I’m poor atm.

Anyway, as far as WSU specifically, not really a whole lot we don’t mostly all hear already. They project about .500 in the conference, 6th, and possibly a couple spots higher, maybe tournament team. I think that’s right about were we all expect to be.

TONS of praise for Tony. Said better than a .500 record should cement his status as maybe the best coach in the nation.

Compared them to WVU of the last several years, saying on the way to being a strong program out of previously nothing, there’s going to be a rebuilding year, and that WSU with Bennett has a good future but a tough season just ahead.
