Rogers for 09?

What have you guys heard about Rogers applying for a medical redshirt so he can play next year? Is it just a rumor or does he have a legitimate shot? I’m not ready to watch Lopina underthrow six yard out routes for another whole year.

Usually, they only give those to guys ...

… who have missed two full seasons due to circumstances out of their control. That’s not the case with Rogers, but the NCAA can look at special circumstances. Will they look more favorably on Rogers because he waited four years for his shot? Possibly, but only the NCAA knows, and they don’t exactly give you an indication of which way they’re leaning until they issue their final ruling.

Lobbestael

I just don’t see Lobbestael coming back from a knee injury to be productive behind a makeshift offensive line. I don’t think there is any reason to believe the O-line will be greatly better. I would love to see him take over though, especially with James Montgomery in the backfield

That o-line will be better

It’ll be deeper, most likely healthier, and a lot less “makeshift” than it was this year. You have to believe that all the stuff Wulff is doing in the weight room and the training table will make the biggest difference on the lines.

I'm not sure yet

I do agree that Wulff’s new training table regime should make a big difference, but I don’t see that happening next year. While I agree that the O-line can be better, my driving point is that it will be difficult for Lobbestael coming off of the knee injury. Regardless of off-season work, the line will be smaller than most and it will be in the Cougs best interest to have a somewhat mobile QB under center next year.

yes my lobbestael vote is contigent

on him returning from injury on time. If that’s the case, then it’ll probably be Lopina unless we grab a good juco qb.

Juco QB

yea, i was looking at the remaining QB prospects on cougfan and the only one that stood out was Jacob Laudenslayer. He has a highlight reel on youtube and it looks like he has a strong, accurate arm and he runs a lot like Locker—whenever everyone surrounds him a hole opens up and he just flat out runs lol. The plus side is that he is also under a spread offense at the college he’s at. I don’t know if Wulff would be up for a Juco QB since he looks for more long term stuff, but it would give Levenseller a chance to redshirt.

JUCO would be a waste

I think signing a juco QB would be a waste of a scholarship, and not one that we would be stuck with for a year, but two, possibly three. If Tuel can live up to the hype, or Lobbestael, for that matter, why would we want to stick them behind a quick fix?
