Pac-10 Super Power Rankings: Now With More Superiosity

We're going to try something new with the Pac-10 Super Power Rankings. Instead of just using our Crimson-colored glasses here at CougCenter, how about making a poll where every blog in the Pac-10 has a voice?

That's what we're trying for in week two. Our goal is to have all ten conference teams represented, or at least the eight schools represented with SBN blogs. Each blog ranks the teams 1-10, sends them to us, and we compile the points and come out with a comprehensive power poll.

The comments are still ours, but you can see each blog's individual vote after the jump.

USC

1-0

I'm worried about USC for one reason: everyone thinks they are going to beat Ohio State. Usually when the media is in this much agreement, they're wrong.

 40

Oregon_medium

Oregon

2-0

The Ducks have been ultra impressive against Washington and Utah State. Now they get a real test with Purdue.

35

Arizona_st_old7_medium

Arizona State

2-0

Is ASU getting slighted at #3? I think so - they beat a game Stanford team that loves to play spoiler.

32

 California_medium

California

2-0

The FSN announcer that said Jake Locker could be the best RB in the conference clearly hasn't seen Jahvid Best.

29

Ucla_old_medium

UCLA

1-0

Can Rick Neuheisal beat two ranked teams back-to-back? BYU looks susceptible.

23

 Zona_medium

Arizona

2-0

The U of A cupcake tour continues in New Mexico, and it is hurting their power ranking so far.

20

Stanford_old8_medium

Stanford

1-1

The Cardinal finally play their first out-of-conference game at TCU.

16

Washington_medium

Washington

0-2

You know it is bad in Montlake when Husky fans start talking about coaching candidates. After two games.

11

Oregon_st_medium

Oregon State

0-2

Biggest disappointment so far in the conference? If they lose at home against Hawaii, you have to say yes.

10

Washington_st_old1_medium

Washington State

0-2

Remember recruits, this is probably the last time in the next several years that you will see WSU play this poorly.

And the UW blog puts themselves at

seven? Talk about wishful thinking . . .

by Broberg on Sep 11, 2008 9:50 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

The way I looked at UW was this

How much to value the near victory, since UW probably did enough to win the game?

The first thing I established for myself was that I wouldn’t have felt any different had they won. This is a team that beat Boise State in similar circumstances last year, getting a tremendous boost from its first home contest. This team might have been especially inspired given the status of its coach. Plus, BYU has a pretty extensive recent history of playing poorly away from home, and I’m not convinced BYU is really a top 15 team.

Clearly, the UW blog ranked its team based off of Saturday’s near victory, and thinks BYU is pretty good. It’ll shake out as we go on.

I think we’ll see a little homerism from everyone in these polls, and it’ll all even out if all eight blogs participate. It’s nice to see everyone’s individual polls though.

No homerism here!

Even we can’t justify moving the Cougs out of the last spot. Hopefully they’ll give us a reason to tonight.

At the risk of actually contributing something...

You could have the polls not rank their own teams. Which would show where the rest of the conference thinks people fit.

It’s times like this I wish they’d never discovered CougCenterium.

by Maharg on Sep 12, 2008 11:10 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

We could do that

But I’m tempted to think that it’ll balance itself out. And, after all, it’s not like our poll actually means anything — as much as we will try to convince ourselves that it does …

Did you just call your own poll meaningless?

It’s times like this I wish they’d never discovered CougCenterium.

by Maharg on Sep 12, 2008 2:35 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Uh, I believe I did

Would you care to convince me that it matters? I’m all ears for arguments that I might be able to use down the line … :-)

Your poll is kind of like the opinion of a cow.

Although I did go to WSU

I’m not familiar with the opinions of cows. Enlighten me.

Aha!

Did I also mention watching this “football team” has numbed my ability to think?

Don'w worry about Maharg

He’s just trying to spread his worthlessness around like some cheap wintertime influenza.

Those wacky kids over at ASU are plenty peeved that only they have their lil’ devils at 2. They think you all hate them and want to steal their milk money.

Sorry we couldn’t get our shit together in time to send you one this week. Half our team is flying out to Maryland and/or in Maryland. We’ll definitely have something for you next week. Can you just send out a reminder early in the week, so we dont forget? Thanks!

I'm no The Maharg! But I try. Oh, how I try!

I have a theory...

TwistNHook and Maharg are the same person.

Like Abbot and Costello, only if it was one guy named Mr. Abbot Costello.

Glad to see CougCenter take the charge in this! Who said you can have too many polls?

The only thing that TwistNHook and I have in common is an intense drive for worthlessness.

We're in for next week as well...

with only one game under their belt it would not have been a fair representation of either USC or ucla. Obviously this weekend will show us a more complete picture.

Agree in principal on your take re: USC v. tOSU…I DO NOT see SC covering the spread. tOSU is a good team and there is waaaaaaaay too much hype that SC is going to romp…you know that Stanford thing.

Thanks for setting this up, we look forward to getting the game next week!

Don't worry

I still think USC wins handily over the Buckos
