Man, this feels good

I'm sure Grady will be here before too long to give his postgame thoughts, but if you're like me, you need a place to talk about how good this feels.

God bless Klay Thompson for that dunk. God bless Taylor Rochestie for hitting that game-winning shot.

And God bless DeAngelo Casto for just being DeAngelo Casto.

Don't look now, but we're 1-2 with a trip to Oregon and Oregon State, two very beatable teams. Dream with me.

The shackles are off.

Play of the Year

Frieking unbelieveable dunk by Klay Thompson. Season on the brink. The kid blew the doors off Beasley. Thank goodness for DVR. I played that back at least 10 times. I am so pumped right now.

Casto was the MAN tonight.

That was nuts

There’s a possibility Beasley went crazier during that than we did with the Baynes’ breakaway dunk.

I know I did. I couldn’t stop jumping.

Huge win

To feel a win will give this team some confidence. They are better than they have showed the last 4 games. They didn’t play perfect but the run in the second half was really good basketball.

Agree

This close win will really help this team going into the Oregon games next week.

Agreed

Both games are certainly winnable

Dream with you

I am dreaming of the NIT, but if the kids catch fire maybe we can win the PX tournament and grab that auto-bid. I am absolutely elated that we won, but I am not ready to leap yet into turning a 1 point win over a decent team at home into a top-4 finish in the PX, especially considering the losses at home to UW and Cal. But I have regained my confidence in this team and think we’ll continue to get better throughout the year.

Some quick thoughts

Nik has to work on a 3-5 dribble pull up and shoot shot. Driving me nuts on the offensive end. Essentially on O we are playing with 4 guys. Harms is in the doghouse or something because watching Lodwick move his feet is like watching me 1 yr old walk.
Some great possessions with TR getting rid of the ball faking the cut and popping out for a catch and shoot. Man have we missed that this year.
Thank you Casto! I would like to see our starting five be: TR, Capers, Klay, Casto and big Baynes. I am still a big fan of Harthun and think we need a super quick and solid ball handling PG, but I guess TB doesn’t agree with me. We could get by with Harms back in the starting lineup with Casto because he can play so free with our defense and provide a ton of help.
Jeremy Green with Stanford would have been a nice get for us.
By the way, I turned off the CAL-UW game in the 2OT when Randal made 2 of 3 FTs with 10 secs thinking UW had it in the bag. Wow!! Man that Thomas kid is good.

Feeling Awesome right now!

I miss Beasley when it’s like that. I think we needed that place to explode the way it did for our older guys remember what it was like and our younger guys to see what our home court can be. It sucks Taylor won’t get his 1,000th point at home.

FYI, the game is being replayed at 11:30 tonight if you didn’t DVR it (like I didn’t).

Go Cougs! See you at Valhalla tonight!

That's probably right

They’re replaying Cal/Wash now, so the Coug game should follow at 11:30. My bad.

Well maybe 1am is a good time to start recording...

Because you only want to make sure u get the end of the game anyway, right?

By the way, it really sucks to be Stanford right now

Two losses by a combined total of two points

Too bad Furd didn't beat the doggies....

It would have been nice to have them get swept at home.

Very good

Great game for the Cougs. I can’t believe we won after making just 4 baskets in the first half. What a tough D.

Will we see Daven anymore?

God, that was painful at the end

Hat’s off to your guys, of course. Taylor Rochestie is truly superlative. The rest of the guys are still feeling their way a bit (well, except Baynes, I’m not sure what’s gotten into him)— I can see how they’re not on the level of a Cal or Washington yet. But he’s a magnificent player.

Still, I can’t shake the image of Owens missing that bunny with 30 seconds left. Hard to swallow.

Football Recruits

Weren’t there some recruits on campus this weekend? I hope so because that had to be a great way to show them some Cougar love!

What a night !

Would I have appreciated last night if the cougs had entered this season better I don’t know but when I saw that smile on Klay’s face after the dunk it helped me accept that this team will find their own way and as a fan I get to enjoy both the ups and the downs.

Still I would like to see more of the new players. Watson seems to have the ability to shoot, any thoughts?

by oldmancoug on Jan 11, 2009 1:21 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Well, we probably won't see Watson on the court this year so that he can keep a red-shirt.

But, Witherill and Harthun have already burned their red-shirts because they saw a few minutes of playing time during the out-of-conference schedule. Most of us would like to see Harthun get some more playing time. He has a nice shot. Witherill’s shot looks like it has room for improvement when I’ve seen him in warm-ups. But, who am I kidding, I’m not one to judge.

Watson certainly looked athletic from the sideline last night

I rewatched the game on DVR late last night and I think I got more enjoyment out of watching the bench get excited durning that second half than what was actually going on during the game. Those kids, and Watson in particular, were absolutely jacked up. I love it. The whole team was going nuts and on the floor after Thompsons dunk. This win is absolutely huge for this teams emotional status and chemestry.

by Jo-Jo on Jan 11, 2009 3:35 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Wait... I just did a double take...

Were you making an assessment of Watson’s athleticism based on how high he was leaping off the bench when the Cougars made a nice play? That’s hilarious.
