Around SBN: New York Giants Super Bowl XLVI Ring Unveiled

Charts, graphs, sadness

One thing you should never, ever do is write anything when you're angry. E-mails, blog posts, sticky notes, it doesn't matter.

So I'm not going to write anything about this game right now.

I will, instead, contemplate which of the following is more disgusting: the free throw rate we gave up, or the fact that Paul Blart: Mall Cop is the number one movie in America.

Player of the Game: Klay Thompson. 15 points on 5/11 shooting.

Play of the Game: Klay's three to give the Cougars a 41-38 lead.

It was over when... DeMar DeRozan rebounded a missed Klay Thompson shot with 9 seconds remaining.

Tell me I'm seeing things

Was that really Caleb Forrest taking the shot with 30 seconds left before we started fouling? Was it really? Seriously?

That was the "beauty" of USC's defense tonight

They really worked hard to get us to give the ball up to guys who had the least amount of chance to hurt them. Caleb didn’t end up taking 11 shots today by accident.

Nuss,

why do you think Tony went away from a line-up that has been successful over the past three weeks?

Hey!

I liked Paul Blart: Mall Cop…
Anyway, as much as I hate the word, this was the definition of “Coug-ing it” (God that’s a horrible word, it’s like dawg… That’s not even a word…)

Look,

I’m gonna say something here, and I really want everyone to pay attention; “Coug-it/Couging-it” is not a term that Cougs use. It is a term that the others use to talk shit about the short comings of our instatution. It origionated as a slam against our football program and has turned into a slam against everything WSU. In recent years I’ve heard more Cougs using these terms and it flat out pisses me off. This is not my Blog sight, but I am a Coug, and I will come at you with great vengence and furious anger if you are a person who feels the need to use those terms in a community that I am a part of.

I mean that, seriously.

Those words

If you want to hide behind them on this blog you are not welcome by me. Those are fighting words posted in that manner. As far as I am concerned, keep those thoughts to yourself where they belong. Capiche?

ps....

How is Lodwick a scholarship athlete? He hits shots all the time during warm-ups and scrimmage, but he cannot hit an in game 3-pointer for anything. He air balled one today for goodness sakes!

....

the guy is 3/27 3 point shooting this year including the MVSU game and today’s game

by Roy Weaver Stuckey on Jan 24, 2009 8:05 PM PST reply actions

Past performance means nothing going into the future

Just because he went 3/27 up to this point does not mean he will go 3 for his next 27. In fact I’d say the likelihood of that is slim and none.

You have to judge shooting by Abe’s form – which is awesome – and his play in practice, which must be pretty darn good to bump Harthun from the rotation.

I think there are two problems with him, from what I can tell: 1. adrenaline, which is why he fired a 3 halfway to Coeur d’Alene tonight. and 2. game speed – which is why he’s been picky about his shot selection and has failed to get into any sort of rhythm.

He wasn't picky earlier in the season

and he was 2/19, which makes 3/27 pretty consistant. I’m not saying that he isn’t going to be a good shooter, but I’ve seen plenty of guys with great form shoot like shit for years, and then there were guys like Reggie Miller who never had form, or Tim Hardaway who never saw a ball make a full rotation in one of his jump shots his entire career.

I agree with what you are saying here, his biggest problem is nerves. But I will say this; If we are going to lose these games with the upperclassmen on the floor in the final 5 minutes, let’s just go ahead and lose them with the freshman on the floor so that we can be better in the future. The best thing for Abe’s shot right now is to take about 2,000 jumpers a day and get a lot of playing time. Or we can just watch guys like Harmeling play out their time while the team loses.

After further consideration

and deep thought, Taylor was the difference in this loss. I hate to pin it on one guy, but he’s supposed to distribute the ball in a wise fashion. When Dragovich was hitting all those 3’s, what did Collison continually do? Exactly, he got the ball to him. When Caleb was hot, what did Taylor do? Get the picture?

That’s his job. If he’s hot, he should look for his shot. I’m disappointed that Klay didn’t get a couple of looks late. Find a way to get him the rock when he’s in scoring position, and I don’t care if it’s at half court. That kid has a sweet stroke. Take advantage of it for crying out loud.

Everybody in the gym knows Aron is our best option, and we keep harping on it, but he doesn’t seem to get the ball enough. The Big Bad Aussie is being wasted. At the end of this game, in the last six minutes when we squandered an eight point lead, it’s up to our floor leader to make wise decisions. Taylor let us down big time in that department. It was apparent Caleb wasn’t going to get it done, neither was Daven. Capers or Casto? Nope. Taylor was having an off-game offensively too. That pretty much narrows it down to Thompson and the Big Bad Aussie. They nary got a touch. When you think about it, how many decent possessions did we even have in the last six minutes?

One other point. We need to be in more of an attack mode and keep more pressure on a defense that late in the game. The name of the game is getting to the foul line where we are nails. USC won the game because they got to the line way more than we did. I know Klay is a freshman and he has problems on his drives, but Taylor needs to make a concerted effort to get him more looks. Taylor did not play like a senior. It’s a sin he didn’t see Forrest under the basket against Ucla. That play was right in front of him.

My rant is over. It’s late or early, however you want to look at it. I really care about this group and I don’t want to see them piss the rest of the season away. Taylor needs to wake up. We can’t afford to give away any more winnable games. Simple as that.

Go Cougs!!!
