Could yesterday have been any better?
Here's a quick recap, just in case you missed it:
- The Cougs beat No. 14 Arizona State behind 28 points from Klay Thompson.
- The first place Huskies, in their first game as a ranked team in two years, lose to 9th place Arizona.
- The Huskies' new football coach just committed his second and third secondary recruiting violations in 10 days.
Yeah, life is good.

Sure it could have been better!
It could have been on TV. Casto guarding Harden… and we couldn’t see it.
Seriously, do you have to remind me of that?
I was trying to pretend like I was actually there. Listening to Bud complain about the refs was like I was sitting next to a buddy watching the game.
Bud
I was reading over some of the game thread comments and it looks like people are split about Bud Namek (sp?). I like his enthusiasm and I would probably get annoyed about his complaints except he does it for both teams. I distinctly recall “Caleb got away with a hold there” and “Traveling by Casto but no call!” for example. As long as it doesn’t take away from his description of the more important parts of the game (apparently it does sometimes) I don’t mind it, in fact I enjoy it more because it does feel like you’re right there.

I like Bud
I just get annoyed sometimes at the complaining. He does point it out when both teams do it, but he doesn’t get quite as, um, animated when a Coug gets away with one. When you can’t watch the game, the thing you need the most is an accurate description of what’s going on.
I know what he does is really, really hard. I get that. If he could just eliminate that — or at least tone it down so that when there’s a really egregious call it takes on the appropriate weight — I’d be a much happier listener.

Don't tone it down Bud. Nuss, I guess you and I can never watch
a Coug game together. Although I don’t curse or make obscene gestures, I am giving the refs a hard time when they make bad calls against us. During radio broadcasts my boys and I are bouncing off the walls and love it when Bud says, “there goes Harden again just bulldozing his way with his free arm and getting away with it!” Or “how’s Casto supposed to not get a foul if Harden is permitted to charge right into him every time and draw a foul?”
Bud
Watched the SC game on the tele, and Bud was making the traveling call with his hands. It made me laugh.
Next time the game isn't televised you guys should check here:

They don’t always have them, but yesterdays game was on there. Sorry you missed it, it was pretty good.
It was supposed to be on
But the feed never showed up.

I listened to the ASU feed on XMRadio
The funniest part was their announcer was talking about that one Pac-10 official that’s been getting a bunch of press lately, can’t remember his name. He had apparently gotten under Tony’s skin and here’s this announcer describing Tony taking off his coat, doing just about everything but getting T’d. It was hilarious.
After the game, I read some comment on here about how he said he got hot, or something along those lines. The ASU announcer was going through what I call, a root canal without novacaine, every time Klay hit a three. The nail in the coffin was the three by Taylor. Priceless!
I got a whole different perspective of the game than Coug fans that listening to Bud Namek did. We did ourselves proud, everyone.

I read that article. Almost every site I read has scathing posts about officiating.
As an example, last night UA was 41-51 from the stripe against the dub. Since I hate the dub, it didn’t bother me much that they were howling about it! They were 13-20. Quite a discrepancy, 21 vs 34 in total fouls.
Like I’ve said numerous times in the past, I wish there was something that could be done to make the officiating more consistent. Coaches, players and fans deserve a better product than they’ve been getting. I think there’s some room for improvement.
