OPEN MATCH/EVENT THREAD: No. 16 USC at WSU (volleyball) and Midnight Mayhem (hoops)
What an awesome evening of Cougar sports at Bohler Gym, and you can watch it all -- free of charge -- via webcast at wsucougars.com. EDIT: So, I was sure that I had seen somewhere that the volleyball game was being broadcast free. I was wrong. You can pay if you want to watch that. But the Midnight Mayhem event is, for sure, free. So, I won't be watching the volleyball match. But I'll be back for Midnight Mayhem.
7 p.m. - The volleyball team starts it off when it hosts No. 16 USC. If you haven't followed the volleyball team -- which currently sits just outside the top 25 after getting swept last weekend at the Bay Area schools -- here are a couple of things for you to read to brush up before the match:
- ESPN.com -- I'm not making that up -- wrote a really nice article about the team, which you can read here.
- The WSU sports information department has its regular gameday news release, which you can read here.
9:30 p.m. (or 30 minutes after the volleyball match, whichever is later) - Midnight Mayhem with the men's and women's basketball teams, featuring a 3-point contest, a slam dunk contest and a scrimmage.
Here's your place to talk about it all.

Im really looking forward to this
I don’t know what that means that im really excited to stay in on a Friday in front of my laptop….but oh well.
COUGS WIN!
Huge win for the ladies! Now, I don’t know if this means Midnight Mayhem will be starting around 9 p.m., or if they’ll be waiting until 9:30 …
Great story developing with Volleyball
I was around when Frederick really started to turn volleyball into a national program. It is great to see the program really start to compete again. What a great win over a top 20 program with a chance to get another one tomorrow. That could would probably push them back into the top 25!
When I click on the link it just takes me to a page with a perpetual loading symbol
Is that what it is doing for everyone right now, or am I having a technical problem?
This one is working great for me
http://all-access.cbssports.com/player.html?code=wast&media=144523
I think its the same one posted above though.
What have you tried?
Different browser, restarting your browser, restarting your computer?
What are you seeing? Is it just time clocked?
Casto sitting out worries me
Hopefully just being extra safe
I'm positive that's all it is
If you listened to that Bone interview on KJR, he said Casto was fine and participating 100 percent in practice.
"I'm going to go with the upset and say Cal is going to win the Pac-10"
Is this guy serious? PREPARATION PLEASE.
I just get stuck on a loading symbol
Both Firefox and IE. I just cleared my cookies … no good. Frustrating end to a frustrating night.

its a lot like the 1st Q of a rookie/soph
motum looks really nice
Well that was fast
Sucks so many people couldn’t watch it. I think Capers and Moore were by far the most impressive tonight.
Hopefully, it'll be available for replay
I think it’s supposed to be

Too bad I couldn't get in until the...
last 10 minutes. I just had to reload the page and then suddenly it came on fine. Irritating and frustrating though.
Anyway, we looked like the way the dogs play…and I don’t mean that as a compliment. No D. But I realize this was all for fun and wasn’t suppose to look like a practice or a real scrimmage.
Moore is so athletic from what I saw. Casto launching 3 after 3 was sort of funny.
If Capers hit 5/6 three balls, I hope that is a sign of things to come. Heck, I even saw Nik hit a 3 ball. Nuthin’ but net!

New World
This is going to be an interesting transition in coaching style. I went to a scrimage during Lowe and Weaver’s senior year. The focus was definitely on defensive sets where this thing was a dunk contest. It will be exciting if the team can do some of this against Pac 10 teams.
I personally don’t know what to think yet. Guess we’ll see. Trying not to take too much out of an event like this.
I was there...
and I really don’t think they considered it a real “scrimmage.” They looked like the were just trying to have fun and please the crowd because I saw some guy back away when a guy was going for a dunk and laughing with them.
Capers is looking REALLY good right now and it was nice to see Klay get to the rim. Harthun started off the night nicely by hitting all 6 of his 3pt attempts and really got the crowd going.
On a side note, it looked like some of the guys on the team were pulled over by the cops on Stadium. Not 100% sure it was them, but my sister and I thought we saw Bjornstad in the passenger so hopefully it was nothing serious if it was them. Overall it was a nice event and I have two posters signed by everyone on the men’s and women’s teams :)
Makes sense
You absolutely do not want to see a player get hurt at one of these things. It’s just for the fans. I also wouldn’t get too caught up how anyone looks. I remember seeing the UWs midnight madness a few years ago. Adrian Oliver and Quincy Poindexter looked off the charts in that format. Not so much once the season started.
