Too bad Musberger is calling UO/USC

I liked him until he completely blew the biggest call of last season, the TTU touchdown against Texas:

Anyone who starts a potentially game-winning play with "second down now"

Probably should find a new career.

Gus Johnson, on the other hand, would’ve spontaneously combusted.

I heart Gus Johnson.

The one bad thing about us totally obliterating ND and Winthrop two years ago is that we didn’t get to have Gus go insane for any of our good moments.

Yes, but he's a double-edged sword

I wanted to kill him when I was pulling for the Zags in the UCLA game.

But when you’re on the right side, he’s awesome

I was rooting very hard against the Zags.

So I loved every moment of it.

"first time tonight ND has started a drive in Cougar territory"

wow, that’s good, except we’re losing by 23, that’s bad

by johnnycougar on Oct 31, 2009 6:52 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I gotta say

Overall, we’re doing a much better job of wrapping up while tackling.

We’re just not in position to do that before they’ve got 8+ yards.

me too.

clearly allstate has an east coast bias.

by displacedcoug on Oct 31, 2009 6:57 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

And seriously, that has to be the worst endorsement deal ever

Allstate: Hey Bobby, we’ll pay you a ton of money, and you won’t even have to do anything. We’ll just mention your name once in a while.
Bobby Bowden: Sign me up! (runs down the hall en route to losing football game)

Flag on the play

“Horrible football, on the defense. That’s a 10 yard penalty, repeat first down”

by Grady. on Oct 31, 2009 7:10 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

25 yards of penalties on one play!

Yes! Biggest play of the night.

well to be honest

it wasn’t entirely directed at you, it’s pretty common right now

Well what are people supposed to do when they are being embarrased on National TV?

I actually thought we would…
a) cover the spread
b) continue some of what tuel started last game
c) maybe even upset

o-line is soooo bad … no real playmakers besides maybe forzani who is in the 2nd year of playing football and already a junior in college

USC getting run over

This could get out of hand fast

by johnnycougar on Oct 31, 2009 7:47 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I really have no idea

It can’t have been for at least eight years…

by johnnycougar on Oct 31, 2009 7:50 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

okay boys

touchdown here to end the game and cover the spread

by johnnycougar on Oct 31, 2009 7:55 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Pretty sure we already are covering.

28 or 27.5 is what I’ve seen.

oh okay

I thought it was 22 for some reason

by johnnycougar on Oct 31, 2009 7:59 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Woo Hoo!!!

We held them to 4 sacks! That’s 1 below our average!

Positives

Normally I am incredibly negative when it comes to the outlook of the Cougs and Wulff. But today I was pleasantly surprised. We didn’t get blown out by 55+ like we did last year. Tuel doesn’t look incompetent (remember Lopina/Lobbestael last year). We didn’t fumble 30 times (like it felt like last year). We sort of resembled a Pac-10 team- a bad one, but hey, its progress. Side Note: We were so unbelievably bad last year (duh), it pains me to think that we may finish a half game worse and be much improved.

standards

how far our standards and expectations have fallen… when a 40/14 loss is ok.

by willarose on Oct 31, 2009 8:55 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Expectations yes, standards no

I don’t think anyone is happy about these results. But if you don’t lower your expectations to be concurrent with the talent on the roster, you’ll just make yourself crazy.

Standards

Not sure if that statement was directed toward my comment or not, but either way:
We are Washington State. Standards? Really? We have been to 2 Rose Bowls since 1931. We aren’t exactly USC (or heck, Washington for that matter). While I think its wonderful we had 3 top 10 finishes, those aren’t standards we should expect (Total side note: but how can a Coug even totally enjoy those seasons when we lost to Washington each year?) Maybe our standards are different, but I’d rather get blown out by top 25 teams and some how find a way to upset Washington and/or go to a bowl (1982,1983, 1988, 1992, and 1994 come to mind).
