This is what speed on defense looks like
There's been a lot of good discussion this week -- again -- about how much responsibility Paul Wulff and his staff bear for the team's poor performances. But when you watch this video, ask yourself: Do we have anyone on our team who even remotely approaches this kind of speed?
I understand Vontaze Burfict is a five-star, all-everything recruit who is destined for Sundays. But it's not like we haven't had players like this before. I ran across the video at WSU Football Blog, and Sean Hawkins said it reminded him of a young Mark Fields. Will Derting might not be as tall as Burfict, but he had this kind of closing speed and explosion at the point of the tackle.
Lends a little bit of credence to Jim Walden's "jimmies and joes" speech, no?

Is he superhuman?!?!
Or are they just what a BCS player should look like? I’m going to go with superhuman to make myself feel better.
yeah it looks a little fishy
would like to see for myself on saturday, but no tv as far as i know.
Yeah, now that I look more closely, it does appear that way
Still, he’s a lot faster than the guys on offense. A LOT faster.
Yes.
But they are playing Idaho State, so I hope he would be. He’s still fast though, no doubt about that.
Do you think we would look fast if we played Idaho State?
I actually mean that as a serious question.
Some guys would.
Too many guys wouldn’t.
