AUDIO: Paul Wulff press conference, 11-10-09
Highly interesting Paul Wulff press conference this week. It starts off innocently enough, but then a simple followup question about whether football should have an early signing day -- a la basketball, which has its early signing day tomorrow -- turns into a full-on diatribe about the ethics of recruiting. Also in there is the usual updates on injuries and such. Well worth the listen.
As usual you can listen to the audio via the player below, or visit our podcast page for myriad subscription options. You can also find us in the iTunes directory under keyword "CougCenter." The advantage of subscribing? Besides having the audio directly delivered to your player of choice, I often upload the audio to the podcast site before posting it here.

This is just a small complaint...
And really if it doesn’t bother anyone else it isn’t a big deal. However I really have no interest in listening to these press conferences, but since I am subscribed to your podcast on iTunes I am forced to download them anyway.
Since these aren’t podcasts do you really think they should be included with the podcast feed? You could possibly have two feeds on iTunes, one for Podcast only, and the other for Podcast + other audio. I really want to be subscribed to your guys’ podcast, but I could do without all the press conferences.
Again, not a big deal, and if everyone else likes it, then by all means leave it as it is. I just thought it might annoy some other people who wouldn’t take the effort to say anything.

Also I'm curious why the press conferences make the podcast cut, but the Bone interview didn't

The press conference audio is given to us by the athletic department for this purpose.
The Bone interview is an embedded player from KJR. You can download it from their website.

We include the Wulff press conferences in the podcast distribution because we figure some people like it and there’s really no other place to get it. If the athletic department did its own podcast distribution of all their press conferences (which I think they should), then we would just embed the audio and you could subscribe from them.
However, you aren’t “forced” to download any podcast. In iTunes, you can set up your feeds to not automatically download. This is what I do, because I subscribe to a ton of feeds, but I don’t want every piece of audio. What it will do is show you the audio title and such, and then you click “get” to download the specific audio. This comes in handy with the KJR folks, who often like to interview people I have zero interest in.
As for the other audio we embed on the site, it belongs to other people, and they haven’t given us permission to distribute it. So, we just give you the audio that’s freely available on their page, and link back to them.

I see
I know I could manually choose which files to download, and just skip the press conferences. But I just like being subscribed to the podcast so it automatically downloads and then automatically syncs up with my iPhone so I can easily listen to the podcast while im driving or working out.
As far as there being no other place to get the press conferences… couldn’t you just embed the audio on the site without including it in the podcast feed?
Like I said though, not a big deal, and if it doesn’t bother anyone else then i’m sorry for bringing it up.
