NCAA Basketball Ref Study Yields Predictable Results
The lesson here: be aggressive, push and shove, and the foul count will still end up even. NCAA refs want to appear fair so they strive for even foul counts. This should be obvious to anyone who's watched NCAA games.
Not mentioned by still relevant: Pac-10 refs are terrible.

Fascinating
It’s kind of “no duh,” but still interesting that someone went out and studied it.

It is like clockwork.
When I was in school, whenever the crowd was getting pissed that the Cougs were down 7 to 1 in fouls for the half, I would just tell everyone around me not to worry because the refs were going to start calling stupid fouls on the other team to even it out. It happened every time and I always looked like a genius.

That's what us BCS folks call "foul creep"
And it is a great thing. After all, college basketball is more successful and interesting (and profitable!) than ever. That means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING is wrong with it.
