Keys to the Game:

1. Kevin Lopina.  He needs to play his best game as a Coug.  His best game by far.  The Husky defense is vulnerable, and Wazzu will have to take advantage if they want to stay in this thing.

2. Turnovers.  This team needs to create turnovers to compete, and score off those turnovers.  The Cougs were able to keep it relatively close last week until the defense wore down.  WSU will have the same problems again if they don't get themselves off the field with some big plays.

3.  Line play.  The Cougar offensive line will be without B.J. Guerra, who will miss the game due to a concussion.  However, they are healthier than they have been in most games this year.  WSU will not have a chance if they are dominated on the line on either side of the ball.  As it is in every game, this is crucial.

The Cougs will be going for the first ever WSU three-peat in the Apple Cup today.  They are also going for five out of six.  We would love it if you would win guys, to help give us something to smile about from this mess of a season.

Would love to see Wulff let it all out

What does he have to lose? It seems on offense he has been tentative at times the last two years, injuries and poor QB play have factored into it as well, but I would love to see him let it all out tonight. Its Lopina’s last game and the UW pass defense is horrible. Let him throw it all over the field, bring out the trick plays, whatever…….JUST WIN THE GAME!!!

GO COUGS!!!!

Is it sad

that I had CougCenter open and just kept hitting refresh, waiting for the open game thread to appear?

I think I might be addicted.

by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 3:08 PM PST reply actions

Damon Huard: "it might seem egotistical, but we have the superior talent."

The Huskies always deliver on the arrogance, but not always on the wins.

by JimtheCoug on Nov 28, 2009 3:25 PM PST reply actions

Brock is better

I actually enjoy Franken-Huard for the most part.

by BornCoug on Nov 28, 2009 3:26 PM PST up reply actions

I agree..

Brock is pretty good…probably why he’s now with ESPN and away from FSNW.

by Scottie44 on Nov 28, 2009 3:27 PM PST up reply actions

Brock I dont mind

this one, never liked, and he looks kinda scary…..don’t think I would leave small children with him.

by spokanecougar on Nov 28, 2009 3:28 PM PST up reply actions

Cam Cleeland was worse last year.

he said anything less than a bowl game is a failure, minutes after they went winless

by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 3:29 PM PST up reply actions

Could be worse...

it could be Hugh Millen. Well, maybe that’s a push.

by Scottie44 on Nov 28, 2009 3:32 PM PST up reply actions

Millen is annoying

I couldn’t stand it if it was Dick Baird. That guy…well, y’all know.

by BornCoug on Nov 28, 2009 3:34 PM PST up reply actions

I stand corrected..

Dick Baird would be worse….much worse.

by Scottie44 on Nov 28, 2009 3:37 PM PST up reply actions

I wonder if the UW frat boys

realize that they didnt invent the ‘Westside’ W?

by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 3:33 PM PST reply actions

the UW might be

the only Pac-10 football team that doesn’t make the Cougs look like the slowest defense on the planet.

by Scottie44 on Nov 28, 2009 3:39 PM PST reply actions

True

We actually look good on this first series.

by BornCoug on Nov 28, 2009 3:40 PM PST up reply actions

Jesus.

Being a Coug fan is so god damned difficult.

by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 3:41 PM PST reply actions

Anyone else see that coming?

Not a good spot for a true frosh even if they have hands like Simone.

by BornCoug on Nov 28, 2009 3:41 PM PST reply actions

Wow.

talk about a reversal of fortunes

by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 3:43 PM PST reply actions

wow.

simone shoulda kept going. but i love the trickeration

by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 3:48 PM PST reply actions

it wasn't pretty

but so close to working perfectly.

by BornCoug on Nov 28, 2009 3:49 PM PST up reply actions

I thought Butler

was going to cream Lopina before he got off the throw. instead he just stood there with his arms up. kinda weird

by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 3:51 PM PST up reply actions

That sideline stuff has to stop

That’s ridiculous. Just call a play

by 02Coug on Nov 28, 2009 3:50 PM PST reply actions

Question

Anyone else’s HD look horrible when the camera is zoomed out? Close ups of the players are great but the main camera is blurry??

by MLips on Nov 28, 2009 3:54 PM PST reply actions

Yup

It looks pretty horrible for HD on the zoom out but what else would you expect from FSN?

by BornCoug on Nov 28, 2009 3:55 PM PST up reply actions

it's FSN,.

they have the worst HD in the history of ever. it’s like one notch up from regular cable.

by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 3:55 PM PST up reply actions

7 minutes in, at least our D is fresh

with a 0 next to the other team’s score. That has been rare this year.

by spencer peaty on Nov 28, 2009 3:54 PM PST reply actions

They are helping us

Why are they trying to be cute? Keep to it.

by BornCoug on Nov 28, 2009 3:59 PM PST reply actions

if Locker went to USC

he might win a heisman. jesus he gets no help from his wideouts. not that im complaining, just saying

by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 4:01 PM PST reply actions

If he went anywhere

….besides WSU and UW…..he probably could have

by spokanecougar on Nov 28, 2009 4:03 PM PST up reply actions

He should have run

on that 3rd down though. It looked like he had first down easy.

by BornCoug on Nov 28, 2009 4:03 PM PST up reply actions

He's also got a suspect line...

We are getting a decent push on D which happens, well, pretty much never.

by Scottie44 on Nov 28, 2009 4:03 PM PST up reply actions

Uh, Kevin...

where you throwin’ the ball?

by Scottie44 on Nov 28, 2009 4:04 PM PST reply actions

well shit.

is this where we completely shit the bed? i certainly hope not.

by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 4:04 PM PST reply actions

Well, if Marshall has to come in...

I just don’t see how we’ll move the ball at all. No offense to him but he hasn’t shown anything since SMU, and that’s not saying much.

by Scottie44 on Nov 28, 2009 4:05 PM PST up reply actions

I never thought I would say this...

we cannot lose Lopina. Lobbestael has been…

by spencer peaty on Nov 28, 2009 4:06 PM PST reply actions

Drops

That’s on Karstetter on 2nd down. Gotta’ just catch the ball.

by BornCoug on Nov 28, 2009 4:07 PM PST up reply actions

#8
  1. at QB. Not a good sign.

by PDXCoug on Nov 28, 2009 4:11 PM PST reply actions

he's listed as 3rd string

so they don’t want him to play, but he’s not totally ruled out.

by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 4:13 PM PST up reply actions

No question

To think how spoiled we were

by BornCoug on Nov 28, 2009 4:13 PM PST up reply actions

Swogger makes me cry

I was 110% convinced he’d be the next great Coug QB.

by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 4:15 PM PST up reply actions

I thought Gary Rogers was

I had him in a math class at WSU, he just looked like a QB i remembered thinking

by spokanecougar on Nov 28, 2009 4:17 PM PST up reply actions

Kegal's brain full of pudding

would be greatly exposed by this pathetically small offensive line.

I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh

by HitKing69 on Nov 28, 2009 4:19 PM PST up reply actions

Keeping this game close would be a mental blow to UW...

…they and their fans think they should be us by 40. The longer we can stay in the game the more they’ll press and start to doubt themselves, just like last year. Of course, throwing the ball to the other team and turning it over in our own end won’t help matters at all.

by Scottie44 on Nov 28, 2009 4:14 PM PST reply actions

The announcers really hate us

“the fact that WSU is still in this game is great”

Or something to that nature

by MLips on Nov 28, 2009 4:17 PM PST reply actions

yeah i love Mack Strong

but he’s a terrible announcer. great fullback, terrible color commentator

by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 4:18 PM PST up reply actions

well

we do suck. a lot. lets not make it seem like we’re better than we actually are.

by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 4:19 PM PST up reply actions

Don't most of us

have more negative things to say?

I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh

by HitKing69 on Nov 28, 2009 4:20 PM PST up reply actions

What I mean is. . .

They are spending 70% of their time talking about how bad we are. And the other 30% on how it is amazing we are in the game. They are hardly talking about the Huskies.

by JimtheCoug on Nov 28, 2009 4:21 PM PST up reply actions

I just did a search

There has never been a James Tardy of any particular acclaim

I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh

by HitKing69 on Nov 28, 2009 4:34 PM PST up reply actions

I have absolutely zero faith in Lobbestael as a functional QB.

what’s the over/under on how fast he transfers in the offseason? first week? second week?

by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 4:34 PM PST reply actions

He's got to know his time is short.

Not only are his mechanics all shot but you can just see that he has no confidence out there. I’m sure it’s tough with such a bad O-line, but still, I don’t know what he does well at this point.

by Scottie44 on Nov 28, 2009 4:35 PM PST up reply actions

Who takes our reject QB's

Now that WWU no longer has a program?

Lopina

Has anyone heard if Lopina might be back?

by PDXCoug on Nov 28, 2009 4:36 PM PST reply actions

I love it when FSN does bias polls

You gotta know that the Cougs are gonna bring it when polls and contests are involved.

by JimtheCoug on Nov 28, 2009 4:38 PM PST reply actions

Living in Kirkland sucks sometimes

so many dirty Huskies when I go to get groceries or rent a movie. I need some Coug love ’round here.

by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 4:39 PM PST up reply actions

The poll was messed up

2 out of 3 options were for the Huskies. To get a true result, there would need to be 4 options. This is coming from a middle school English teacher.

I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh

by HitKing69 on Nov 28, 2009 4:42 PM PST up reply actions

Maybe I'm off

and feel free to correct me if I’m wrong here, but it just seems like when our guys tackle the ball carrier, they never go for the strip or attempt to punch the ball out. shouldn’t you be taught to do that? if Hamlett put his hand out and slaps the ball away, Locker fumbles (maybe). I dunno, probably me just overanalyzing.

by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 4:43 PM PST reply actions

I agree.

But my expectations are pretty low: I just want to see a tackle.

by JimtheCoug on Nov 28, 2009 4:44 PM PST up reply actions

A tackle in the backwards direction

That would be AWESOME!!!

Wulff will sink or swim with his ability to recruit a OL and DL...

I think it’s abundently clear what the #1 problem is with this team: an awful O-line…followed by a slightly less awful D-line. If he can get some athletes on the lines he’ll probably make it. If not, it’s just not going to get any better.

by Scottie44 on Nov 28, 2009 4:54 PM PST up reply actions

No offense

no running game, lots of drops. No defensive line. 13-0 isn’t too bad with a chance to go to half.

by BornCoug on Nov 28, 2009 4:55 PM PST up reply actions

thats why its so bad.

the offense looks terrible. terrible play calling as well. i just dont wanna get shut out

It's sad

they showed Tardy’s career rushing yardage and it was only a few hundred more than Jerome Harrison had his senior year.

I miss a running game/o-line.

Wulff has no excuses next year. We know he will be there. So there is little use speculating now.

by WSUcougar05 on Nov 28, 2009 6:07 PM PST up reply actions

Break it down for me

No d-line, terrible o-line, drop passes galore. What could Wulff do to make this much better?

by BornCoug on Nov 28, 2009 6:08 PM PST up reply actions

What was he supposed to do?

The O-line can’t block anybody, they are slow, weak, and get beaten time and time again. We tried running outside and don’t have the speed. We tried runing inside and get pushed around. We throw short and get creamed. We throw deep-ish and can’t because our QBs have zero accuracy, or receivers can’t catch, and our O-line gives the QB no time.

by Scottie44 on Nov 28, 2009 6:09 PM PST up reply actions

Im sorry...

but this no huddle offense is really starting to piss me off. I see no advantage. Has anyone been confused by it yet? Other than our own players?

I did see a couple of positive things

The Cougar defense seems to be inproving. If they didn’t spend the entire day out on the field they could have helped pitch an upset. If the offense can get back on track next season I think you are going to see an improved team.
