Keys to the Game:
1. Kevin Lopina. He needs to play his best game as a Coug. His best game by far. The Husky defense is vulnerable, and Wazzu will have to take advantage if they want to stay in this thing.
2. Turnovers. This team needs to create turnovers to compete, and score off those turnovers. The Cougs were able to keep it relatively close last week until the defense wore down. WSU will have the same problems again if they don't get themselves off the field with some big plays.
3. Line play. The Cougar offensive line will be without B.J. Guerra, who will miss the game due to a concussion. However, they are healthier than they have been in most games this year. WSU will not have a chance if they are dominated on the line on either side of the ball. As it is in every game, this is crucial.
The Cougs will be going for the first ever WSU three-peat in the Apple Cup today. They are also going for five out of six. We would love it if you would win guys, to help give us something to smile about from this mess of a season.

Would love to see Wulff let it all out
What does he have to lose? It seems on offense he has been tentative at times the last two years, injuries and poor QB play have factored into it as well, but I would love to see him let it all out tonight. Its Lopina’s last game and the UW pass defense is horrible. Let him throw it all over the field, bring out the trick plays, whatever…….JUST WIN THE GAME!!!
GO COUGS!!!!
Is it sad
that I had CougCenter open and just kept hitting refresh, waiting for the open game thread to appear?
I think I might be addicted.
call this a cop out, but here are my two predictions as a...
rational observer: 31-10 UW
Cougar fan: 24-21 COUGS!

I had a dream last night
that we returned the opening kickoff for a TD. so if/when it happens, just call me nostredamus
by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 3:22 PM PST up reply actions
Call me a pessimist
I’m just hoping we have enough players to get through the game.
Damon Huard: "it might seem egotistical, but we have the superior talent."
The Huskies always deliver on the arrogance, but not always on the wins.
Brock is better
I actually enjoy Franken-Huard for the most part.
I agree..
Brock is pretty good…probably why he’s now with ESPN and away from FSNW.
Brock I dont mind
this one, never liked, and he looks kinda scary…..don’t think I would leave small children with him.

Cam Cleeland was worse last year.
he said anything less than a bowl game is a failure, minutes after they went winless
by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 3:29 PM PST up reply actions
Could be worse...
it could be Hugh Millen. Well, maybe that’s a push.
Millen is annoying
I couldn’t stand it if it was Dick Baird. That guy…well, y’all know.
I stand corrected..
Dick Baird would be worse….much worse.
the UW might be
the only Pac-10 football team that doesn’t make the Cougs look like the slowest defense on the planet.
We got it back
It could have been a lot worse. I thought the UW guy was going to walk into the endzone on that muff.
kick/catch interference on UW
thats why simone muffed it

thats how you steal the momentum and the score
that was a shame
by spencer peaty on Nov 28, 2009 3:49 PM PST up reply actions
it wasn't pretty
but so close to working perfectly.
I thought Butler
was going to cream Lopina before he got off the throw. instead he just stood there with his arms up. kinda weird

That sideline stuff has to stop
That’s ridiculous. Just call a play
Question
Anyone else’s HD look horrible when the camera is zoomed out? Close ups of the players are great but the main camera is blurry??
it's FSN,.
they have the worst HD in the history of ever. it’s like one notch up from regular cable.

7 minutes in, at least our D is fresh
with a 0 next to the other team’s score. That has been rare this year.
They are helping us
Why are they trying to be cute? Keep to it.
They think we suck
and can get away with it
by spokanecougar on Nov 28, 2009 4:00 PM PST up reply actions
I would run Polk
between the tackles all day.
if Locker went to USC
he might win a heisman. jesus he gets no help from his wideouts. not that im complaining, just saying
If he went anywhere
….besides WSU and UW…..he probably could have
by spokanecougar on Nov 28, 2009 4:03 PM PST up reply actions
He should have run
on that 3rd down though. It looked like he had first down easy.
He's also got a suspect line...
We are getting a decent push on D which happens, well, pretty much never.
Well, if Marshall has to come in...
I just don’t see how we’ll move the ball at all. No offense to him but he hasn’t shown anything since SMU, and that’s not saying much.
Our O line sucks ass
I hope Wulff is recruiting some good ones
by spokanecougar on Nov 28, 2009 4:06 PM PST up reply actions
The D is leaving it all on the field...
the O needs to help them out.

Kegal's brain full of pudding
would be greatly exposed by this pathetically small offensive line.
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
Keeping this game close would be a mental blow to UW...
…they and their fans think they should be us by 40. The longer we can stay in the game the more they’ll press and start to doubt themselves, just like last year. Of course, throwing the ball to the other team and turning it over in our own end won’t help matters at all.
beat us by 50*
just ask Kavario Middleton.
by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 4:15 PM PST up reply actions
The announcers really hate us
“the fact that WSU is still in this game is great”

Don't most of us
have more negative things to say?
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
What I mean is. . .
They are spending 70% of their time talking about how bad we are. And the other 30% on how it is amazing we are in the game. They are hardly talking about the Huskies.
It is unfortunate to know that we can't overcome a 10 point deficit
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
I made a slight edit
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
On the plus side, Locker and Kearse are finally hooking up
I’ve been rooting for those two guys all year long
The sponsor probably wanted to get it in...
while people are still watching.
I just did a search
There has never been a James Tardy of any particular acclaim
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
I have absolutely zero faith in Lobbestael as a functional QB.
what’s the over/under on how fast he transfers in the offseason? first week? second week?
He's got to know his time is short.
Not only are his mechanics all shot but you can just see that he has no confidence out there. I’m sure it’s tough with such a bad O-line, but still, I don’t know what he does well at this point.
We need a JC QB first
They are after a couple
Who takes our reject QB's
Now that WWU no longer has a program?
Central
Cole Morgan has them in the semi-finals.
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
Lopina
Has anyone heard if Lopina might be back?
It looked like he said he was ready
but they stuck with Lobbestahl.
I love it when FSN does bias polls
You gotta know that the Cougs are gonna bring it when polls and contests are involved.
Living in Kirkland sucks sometimes
so many dirty Huskies when I go to get groceries or rent a movie. I need some Coug love ’round here.
by playerkyle14 on Nov 28, 2009 4:39 PM PST up reply actions
The poll was messed up
2 out of 3 options were for the Huskies. To get a true result, there would need to be 4 options. This is coming from a middle school English teacher.
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
Looked like Chad Eaton is there
Doesn’t he want to coach?
yes please.
always loved his super intensity

Maybe I'm off
and feel free to correct me if I’m wrong here, but it just seems like when our guys tackle the ball carrier, they never go for the strip or attempt to punch the ball out. shouldn’t you be taught to do that? if Hamlett put his hand out and slaps the ball away, Locker fumbles (maybe). I dunno, probably me just overanalyzing.
A tackle in the backwards direction
That would be AWESOME!!!
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
Does Colin Henderson have any eligibility
I miss that guy
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
I seriously don't know who Marshall is trying to throw to half the time...
I mean, is he color blind?
I feel like Marshall was just trying to take himself out of the game there
He just looks miserable out there.
Lakes High School doesn't have anything to do
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
Wulff will sink or swim with his ability to recruit a OL and DL...
I think it’s abundently clear what the #1 problem is with this team: an awful O-line…followed by a slightly less awful D-line. If he can get some athletes on the lines he’ll probably make it. If not, it’s just not going to get any better.
No offense
no running game, lots of drops. No defensive line. 13-0 isn’t too bad with a chance to go to half.
thats why its so bad.
the offense looks terrible. terrible play calling as well. i just dont wanna get shut out

Tough to do that with no O-line.
Of course, we can’t run, either.

Do you come after this walkon?
great question. Where’s Lobs?
This is the thing Apple Cup stories are made of
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
It's sad
they showed Tardy’s career rushing yardage and it was only a few hundred more than Jerome Harrison had his senior year.
I miss a running game/o-line.

Plays on the side
Can we agree that looking for the play call on the sideline not only looks bad but it is not working?
If we played close to this for any other game
I would have enjoyed this losing season a little more.
I only meant the defense on that comment
I prefer to not watch the offense right now (or this season for that matter
I'm not really enjoying anything about this game.

At this point...
the only way the Cougs could win is if the D ends up scoring several TDs.
For a second, forget that we are playing the Huskies
This is the closest game we’ve played all year (discounting SMU)
The puppies aren't playing any better than SMU at the moment..
I think we all remember how that turned out.. I peed a little
I kinda just want to get it over with.
I knew we’d lose this game, as much as it hurt to admit. Now I just want it to end, and then we can concentrate on basketball.
there's still a chance
if they let me play the rest of this game on xbox

Well, I have more faith in the BB team, but
that one could be scary. I just hope we can play competitively
Sidenote ...
Anyone notice that the Championship game of the Great Alaska Shootout is NOT on TV? We had to watch UAA and Nichols State, but can’t watch an actually good team and potentially good game
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
Not DirecTV?
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
If you get the sports pack...
it’s on MASN. FSN doesn’t have it live due to the USC/UCLA game.
I bought the Sports Pack
so that I could watch the WSU/UCLA game. At the time it did not rank as one of the better purchases I have ever made.
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh

I'm not liking this no huddle
The QB is spending the play clock calling the play, and not reading the defense. i think it has a lot to do with the int’s
Don't a lot of teams run this offense now?
Seems like every team in the Big 12 are running it. It just works better for them.
Okie State ran it at Qwest last year...
a few others, as well.

I know we have had injuries and other stuff
But watching this game kind of shows to me Wulff cannot coach.
we will know next year.
Wulff has no excuses next year. We know he will be there. So there is little use speculating now.
Break it down for me
No d-line, terrible o-line, drop passes galore. What could Wulff do to make this much better?
What was he supposed to do?
The O-line can’t block anybody, they are slow, weak, and get beaten time and time again. We tried running outside and don’t have the speed. We tried runing inside and get pushed around. We throw short and get creamed. We throw deep-ish and can’t because our QBs have zero accuracy, or receivers can’t catch, and our O-line gives the QB no time.
News
Good News: We are still beating the point spread.
Bad News: We are down 23-0 to team that doesn’t look very good.
I agree
and I think he will. Even after his stats went down this year, he is still rated as a likely top 10 pick in the draft. Hard to pass that up, especially if he think the Seahawks might draft him.

Signed,
Coug Nation
second season from hell is over
the second sesaon from hell is finnally over …thank God!
worse part is taht we took a charter bus to the game – so could not leave early.
jim walden … dring the psot game… indicated it mya take two more ywearsa for a winning record… but i hope we do not have to endure a third season from “hell”.
I did see a couple of positive things
The Cougar defense seems to be inproving. If they didn’t spend the entire day out on the field they could have helped pitch an upset. If the offense can get back on track next season I think you are going to see an improved team.
