“Galvin is the ultimate jitterbug. Short in stature but huge in productivity, this guy plays with reckless abandon. Very quick running back that has exceptional lateral quickness and makes lightening fast moves to elude tacklers.
Has very good vision and can cut the ball back or bounce it out with a burst. Pulls away from defenders and seems to possess both speed and agility. Spins foe extra yardage and runs through arm tackles because of his acceleration. Uses blockers well from the I formation tailback position. Explosive also on special teams. As a return specialist; dashes downfield with confidence and athletic moves while going full tilt.
Tough guy that will lower his shoulders and take on much bigger defenders to get vital inches of turf. Displays courage and speed when coming off the edge in order to block punts. Times the get off well and sprints through the block point to take the ball off the punters foot. Shows the ability to scoop the blocked kick up and score. Galvin is a very good athlete that unfortunately is somewhat limited because of size. His speed, quickness, agility, and toughness will help him land on a college roster."
Didn’t want to post the whole, thing, but it was all so positive that I had too. Thats from ESPN.com

Thanks!
Sounds like a good pick up. Unfortunately, as a Coug, he sounds like an injury waiting to happen. The life of a Cougar football fan…

He sounds kinda like a Darren Sproles-kind of running back...
but 5-8, 172? Thats pretty skinny for a running back…

He has really good strength numbers
for his size. I like the pickup. He looks like a good change-of-pace back. He has good strength numbers but from the video I saw I don’t know if he is even 5-8 and 172 might have been generous as well. I like him though.

Apparently we may have "lost" a running back
Grippi posted in his blog that Arthur Burns was working at linebacker today. Interesting if true. Burns was listed at 5-11, 212, and with a 4.46 40. That would add some quality speed at linebacker and give them another linebacker with Kafusi apparently moving to d-end.
I am all for this defense getting faster.

Worked well before
Thats how we came to find Louis Bland’s talent as a LB. He was a 3 star RB converted to LB. I’m all for that.

Bland was a great find
Easily one of the better under-the-radar recruits we have seen in quite some time. We could use a few of the “can’t miss” type of recruits but Wulff has done a solid job recruiting.

He did say, though, that he moved on the scout team
I wouldn’t necessarily read too much into it yet.

He's redshirting
So he’s on the scout team either way. I definitely don’t think anything is set in stone. Just probably getting a look at him for linebacker to see if it is his best position.
One thing Price did very well is move as many prospects as possible to defense. They need to fix the defense as soon as possible and more speed won’t hurt and you aren’t going to get through a season with a small group of linebackers.
I hope it sticks.

Or, they could just be trying to simulate what they're going to see on Saturday ...

Thought about that but...
It could be to try to mimic the defense they are going to see against ‘Zona. You usually see that with skill guys but anything that better prepares the team for the start of a game needs to be tried. It wouldn’t surprise if there were other motives as well though.
I guess we will know come spring. I will admit I am absolutely desperate for more speed on defense. Where some really like the idea of a guy like Mattingly with a lot of size at linebacker I would prefer a smaller player with better speed, lateral quickness, and explosiveness.
We seem a lot like what Stanford looked like and maybe even slower. That has to change and position switches from offense to defense is one way to get more speed on defense.

Does speed and size have to be mutually exclusive?
Will Derting and Lamont Thompson want to know.

are we going to get anyone to block for this guy?
I don’t see the O Line getting any deeper with this class unless those TE’s are converting.

2 or 3 could convert
Rodgers could end up an offensive or even a defense tackle. Dunn could end up a d-end or d-tackle if he grows out of the tightend position. If they are able to get Maxx Forde he is projected by many to end up on the o-line.
We are still pretty young along the line. I wouldn’t ive up on Pencer or Reitnouer as freshmen although Reitnouer is probably a couple years away from having enough bulk. They have a bunch of young players inside and Guerra and Roxas are just juniors next year.
Linemen take time.

I think that's more what's going on
We have a TON of offensive linemen on the roster, most of them sophomore or younger. This is a great class to really focus on adding speed, an area we desperately need improvement.

Agreed
We have a lot of Lineman, they are just too young right now. As for Dunn converting to OL or DL I would say this team DESPERATELY needs that safety blanket in a reliable TE. If scouts.com’s rating of 4 stars (8th TE in the country) is close, we will need Dunn in the pass game to help Tuel develop. Having a big reliable TE can be a huge asset to a QB, especially a young guy in Tuel.

I'd argue that we've got a decently reliable tight end
What we really need is linemen who don’t need tight ends to help them block. Hopefully another year of development will bring that about …
by Nuss on Nov 3, 2009 10:17 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Who is that tight end?
Thompson’s gone next year, and Stormo is, uh, Stormo…
by displacedcoug on Nov 3, 2009 11:02 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I meant this year
In the sense that it doesn’t matter who we get to play tight end next year if they have to block on every play.
by Nuss on Nov 3, 2009 11:38 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Dang
That was my first thought as well. What does it matter if they are needed to block on every play? I personally would like to see Dunn at d-end because he seems like such a warrior. Cory Mackay would have made an interesting receiver and a very good tightend. He would have potentially been a difference maker at d-end.
Whatever makes the most sense for the player and team is fine by me.

...
It’s kinda weird that Rivals has him as the 15th best all purpose back in the nation while scout.com and scouts inc have him in the 150s…
I think someone on cougfan posted a thing showing that next year we are on pace to have the most linemen in the pac-10 or at least way up there
