College Sports Open Thread

Busy day today.  Start your morning off right with Ohio State-Butler and battle between two historic programs, Indiana-Kentucky.  Later UW-Georgetown and a host of lower division football playoffs.  (Playoffs?)  Here is your place to discuss.

EDIT 10:45:  Also, the Army-Navy game.  Thanks Nuss for the reminder.

Thought the Cougs played at 4 PST, turns out it is 4 EST.

Hey Nuss, want me to handle the game thread?

If you can, that would be great

But if it’s too much trouble, I can throw something together. I’m just grading like a madman today.

Unfortunately not this year

And I hate when they use the term motor

He's still had a few games where he hasn't been in gear

But he is much better about competing all the time this year, and not taking nights off.

When he's turned it on, he's been scary good

Which is what everyone expected of him since his freshman year. All the hype and no payoff til now

by Brian Floyd on Dec 12, 2009 11:30 AM PST up reply actions

Fully agree.

He has shown some really high level of play this year, and has been at that level most of the time.

Side note, three turnovers in a minute by UW, that was impressively sloppy.

Are we all surprised just how easily Georgetown

is taking apart the uw? Thomas is trying to do what Klay has done and shoot their team back into the game.

21 Turnovers

Sloppy as hell. Georgetown is keying on Pondexter, trying to force Thomas to win the game

It's a lot like the WSU/KSU game

This is more physical than anyone has gotten with UW this year. They’re not fighting back.

by Jeff Nusser on Dec 12, 2009 12:52 PM PST up reply actions

They have not

And they didn’t against TT, either. They’ve got their issues, just like everyone else in the conference.

By the way, did anyone hear Mark Few's backhanded compliment of UW on KJR?

He basically said that the reason Gonzaga doesn’t really need UW on the schedule is because they already play enough tough teams. Then he said that UW has a schedule that works very well for them — one that features a lot of home games against inferior competition. I would think it was funnier if I liked Few, but I still thought it was kinda funny.

by Jeff Nusser on Dec 12, 2009 1:04 PM PST up reply actions

He also said the WCC was better than the Pac-10

Few comes off as an A-Hole, but I like that in a coach. No love lost between GU and UW.

by Brian Floyd on Dec 12, 2009 1:05 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, I heard that. I think the WCC has only 4 teams currently above .500

That Few is a comedian. You can tell that the uw and Gonzaga has no love for each other. It really doesn’t make sense for Gonzaga to play the game by the uw rules. Both schools have good, but not great teams right now.

Gonzaga could compete favorably this season in the Pac 10. Of course, the way the pac 10 is looking, we could put together five guys from this board and compete this year.

The uw did make a nice comeback against GT to make the game look respectible.

Very possibly true, but

having two very good teams that could win the Pac 10 (St. Mary’s is the other) doesn’t mean that the WCC is better than the Pac 10, which is what Few said.

don't forget ESPN's 30 for 30 series

“The U” tonight at 6. looks interesting

by coug2828 on Dec 12, 2009 3:05 PM PST reply actions

So, let's look at the pac-10 today

Oregon loses to St Mary’s
UCLA loses to MSU
UW loses to GU

We win
ASU beats Delaware St. by 42

OSU-Nebraska is just underway and is close
Arizona plays SDSU tonight

Another banner day!
