Defense
It’s all about the defense man. I was thinking in the closing minutes of regulation that this was a classic defensive battle. I was loving every minute of it. Then Rochestie didn’t hit the front end, and Capers fouled Harden and I thought I was going to puke.
Yeah, that was kind of the point
Just a quintessential Cougar basketball game. Incredible defense, especially on Harden. Pendergraph and Kuksiks were ineffective as well. Just awesome.
did you catch that ...
the guy on SportsCenter called it “ugly” because it was a “first to 50 in overtime wins” kinda game? And yet, I thought it was beautiful throughout the entire game because I actually understand the intracacies of basketball more than a talking head.
So by that rationale, the game were UW scored 90 points and lost must have been as beautiful to his eyes as a half naked Heidi Klum. Idiots.
D allowed them to stay in the game
Even so, Taylor and Aron had quite a few that just didn’t go in. The shots were off, was it the shooters or was it trying to shoot through Ariz, would Klay have had so many if it were Ariz? And TRs missed FTs wasn’t Ariz. If the cougs can shoot like they did with Ariz St and UCLA, we will see a great game next weekend.
I’ve watched yesterday’s game a couple of times now, and still don’t see Marcus’s foul on Harding, I think that was D
They showed one replay that was kind of a close up where it looked like a clear foul
But that was the only angle that looked conclusive to me. Regardless, no way Marcus should have ever had his hand in there in the first place.
A different approach....
I was yelling for Capers to foul Harden before he had a chance to attempt his three. Some might disagree with that strategy, and I think Tony has gone on record as saying he’s against it, but I’d rather put ASU at the line with under five seconds left with a one and one in that situation.
I don’t like giving them a chance to make one shot, a very high percentage shot for a good shooting team like ASU. I’d rather force them to make foul shots, get a rebound or a turnover, and still have to make another shot (multiple possessions). There just wasn’t enough time to do all of that, the way I saw it.
Capers did exactly what you’re not supposed to do.
We were fortunate to survive this one. Taylor came damn close to winning it at the end of regulation from half-court, hitting the back of the iron. He also missed a foul shot with us up by three, almost unheard of. If you noticed, he dribbled once before shooting it, something he rarely ever does.
In the end, it was that green Santa Barbara jersey his brother wore that pulled it out for us. I hope that jersey makes it to Montlake on Saturday. We’re gonna need all the karma we can get.
That green jersey
is the key to it all. Lock it up to a nice frontloaded 10 year contract plus incentives for the number of upsets. Then rename the court to “Tony Bennett and Alex Rochestie’s Lucky Green Jersey Court”. Also, bring up a replica of it to hang from the rafters in Beasley. This should lock in the mojo.
Haha
that is the best comment I’ve heard in a while.

Maybe this could be the beginning of a brand new tradition called....
The Green Jersey Award. Some lucky representative of the university wears it at each home and away game to bring us luck and put karma on our side.
