Some things:

1) It’s nice to have a bigger name for this.
2) Still, playing these games in Pullman is a much better atmosphere and home court advantage
3) Glad they put it during Winter Break and not Finals week. The lack of student presence made the place look pretty empty this year.

This is where per game statistics go to die.

I wouldn't be so sure about the home court advantage

If this is a team the Seattle Cougs can get fired up about and that place is filled, it will be much louder and mor intimidating that Beasley. I know the Zzu Cru brings an element that can’t be replicated in KeyArena, but I’ve been in that place when it’s absolutely rocking — there was this NBA team that used to play there that was pretty good once — and it is incredibly loud.

I'll be there

And my wife’s louder and more into doing all the Zzu Cru chants and stuff than I am.

We will likely be on the road

for our big 12 matchup next year. We also go to spokane for Gonzaga. I don’t think we’ll have any big teams come to Pullman in the non-conference. Can’t say I hate it, though. This way we’ll get the home games the following year when we will have a shot at the postseason.

Between those three games

We should NOT schedule any more tough out of conference games. That’s plenty, if we’ve learned anything from this year …

I enjoyed the schedule we played this year

Even though it doesn’t help us in the W / L column, I’d much rather lose to Pitt than beat MSVS, FDU or Sac State. Over time we will start winning some of those games. We get a good indication of where we need to improve and we get more tv exposure.

I certainly understand your logic though, I’d just rather take on a ‘few’ of the big names every season, even if it’s not at Friel, and build a reputation as a school that’s not afraid to schedule outstanding competition. It’s a double-edged sword, I guess.
