POSTGAME THREAD: Finally, it's over
Not much to say about this one, other than I hate being right.
- I said we couldn't win if Klay shot 3-for-12; he shot 2-for-11, just 1-for-5 from 3-point range.
- I said we'd have a hard time winning if we couldn't keep St. Mary's off the boards; we gave up over 40 offensive rebounding percentage in the first half when we got buried in a hole we couldn't get out of.
- I said we needed to contain Diamon Simpson; he had 18 points, 10 rebounds and was 8-of-12 from the line.
I wish I could say I foresaw all the boneheaded turnovers in the first half, but there was just no way that should have happened. Disappointing, to say the least.
Patty Mills will get all the press in this one, but he's not the reason we lost. It didn't help, but his performance could have been overcome. Problem is, we were just too flawed in too many other areas to give ourselves a chance.
Pretty much a microcosm of this season, which is now over.

Cougs go
as Klay goes. And it will probably be that way for the next three years.

Good news is
he won’t be a freshman anymore. But he’s got some work to do to become a reliable, every night scorer.

That take to the basket at the end of game
was what we need to see more of.

lol, indeed
we need more plays where the defense thinks the game is over
I'm not worried about that either
He is going to be fantastic. I’m sorry I said I hate you Klay, I just hated your jump shot tonight.

I know how he feels about not hitting anything
I just can’t imagine what it feels like on national tv

Less than six months until the first football postgame thread
And eight months or so until the next basketball postgame thread. It will go by so fast you won’t even notice.

well we still have a better record than OSU
and that won’t change, even if they win the CBI

So, Craig, remember that e-mail I sent you this afternoon where I said the more I thought about this game the more I don't like our chances?
:-)
*sigh*

I was overly optimistic to start with but
the more I read about St. Mary’s the more I realized we’d have to play our ‘A’ game to win. We got too far behind too quickly and when we had chances to get back in it, didn’t play smart enough to take advantage. Nice try, no cigar!
I agreed with your reasoning
I just DID NOT want to believe it was going to end tonight. I refused to think about it all day.

I'm really looking forward to football season now.
I will try to remember all the good things about this season and forget about the bad.
There were some fantastic things this season
Klay and Baynes vs. ASU, UCLA, UA, TAYLOR’S Shot. Luckily we live in the age of YouTube where we can watch that OVER AND OVER again.

I LOVE THESE COUGS!
They battled and battled. Sports is about the ups and downs but damn it, I love these guys and I’m going to miss Baynes, Rochestie, Forrest and Harmeling.
Next year should be interesting without the senior leadership but watch out when Klay and Co. are juniors and seniors. They’ll be deep and experienced.
Raise your glasses to these guys
they won a lot of ball games.

As much as I liked this team, it's time to move on
I look for better things in the near future. You saw a glimps of the ‘real’ Marcus Capers tonight. Get ready for Anthony Brown and the other freshmen I’ve heard so much about. I think they have a big impact, even more than what I saw from our bench this year. I like what the future holds.
So, do you think Wullf can pull off a 7th place finish this year?
And is CougCenter covering spring practice?
What do you think Nuss?
We need to sign on a young freshman to spend his time doing that. hard to do from across the state!

We'll do what we can
Grady’s going to see if he can get out to practice some, but he’s pretty busy. Craig and I live on the west side. If any of the readers want to go out there and then write a FanPost, that would be sweet.

I soak it all in, it's all good stuff
Do whatever you can. It’s appreciated more than just a little.
I can try. I got one more year here. I'm no expert though.
I am afraid my post might look something like “the run looks weak, and the pass looks weak.” Also, I am busy finishing grad school and I just had a kid (who was crying through most of the game with me)
So basically...
We are all a bunch of grad students and alumni.

the bright spots from this game
1) Capers does have a jumper, he just needs to find his confidence, which should be there next year since he will be relied on to do a little scoring.
2) Harthun is definitely not lacking in confidence. He will jack up a shot whenever he has a chance.
Those two components are huge for next year’s squad.
Sidenote – how nice would it be to still have a Chris Matthews to come off the bench in games like these and jack some quality 3’s? Obviously, we would like Klay, Rochestie, and Harmeling to be doing this, but down the stretch it just wasn’t there (or in Harmeling’s case all season was not there).

I can't say enough about the people and the content on this site
Thanks everyone, I look forward to more of the same.
Next year is the beginning of a new era in Coug basketball
lI think it’s the real beginning of the Tony Bennett era and I am really excited about it.
