Around SBN: Two Minutes Of Thunder Basketball Wins The Game

March Madness Open Thread: Day 2

A chance for you to discuss the morning action, while I'm hard at work, because fourth year pharmacy students don't get Spring Break. Booooooo.

By the way, if you get a chance to check out Barack Obama' s bracket, it's actually pretty well thought out, even though it's a little on the safe side (and he openly hates on the Pac-10).

But hey - he has UW losing in the second round.

That's change I can believe in.

ND State is playing well against Kansas but is getting pounded inside repeatedly. I don’t think they’ll stay with them. The other “upset” bid has more staying power, Utah State is a lot more versatile and could beat Marquette. Both are good games to watch. I am entirely uninterested by OK State vs Tennessee or the blowout that is the Syracuse game.

I forgot I picked WKU. I’m never good at remembering. I don’t know if Utah State will be able to hang around.

I remember back when you were doing your Top-25 poll....

and I showed some love for Utah St. and you weren’t all that hot on them. I never forgot that and didn’t pick them for an upset over Marquette based on that comment. And then you turn around and pick them in your bracket. It looks like Utah St. is going to make it to the second round.

Yeah, they've got to play some defense

They’re fouling on just about every possession right now, and just lost their best shooter. Gonna be tough — Marquette’s athleticism is taking over.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 20, 2009 11:31 AM PDT up reply actions

Well, Marquette just isn't the same team without Dominic James

My pick of USU had more to do with that than anything else. I didn’t think the Aggies were a top 25 team then, and I don’t think Marquette is a top 25 team now. Plus, having Utah State play in Boise? It’s about a four-hour drive, and I figured there would be a lot of Aggies in the house.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 20, 2009 11:30 AM PDT up reply actions

Sorry for giving you a ration...

I totally understand where you are coming from. Villanova is playing at home and so is Ohio St. today. I have Nova over Ucla but messed up and didn’t pick OSU (just think they aren’t that good). I follow your logic and it makes tons of sense.

James Hardin discussion - in between the NCAA break

Every time I watch the guy his game reminds me of somebody in the NBA, but I can’t figure out who it is! Any thoughts on his NBA equivalent? The only guy I fall back on is Michael Redd, but that’s basically just because they are shooting guards and have a similar body-type….

A little help!

by LeaveItToWeaver on Mar 20, 2009 3:46 PM PDT reply actions

I'm not much help because I don't watch the NBA much....

Everytime I try to watch the Blazers, I end up switching to the Food Channel or something I’ve tivoed. I just refuse to invest the time in the NBA’s product, even when it features one of their supertars.

I watched OKC one night for a bit on the NBA channel just so I could watch Kyle Weaver for a bit, but even with him in getting tons of minutes, it was hard to watch.

I wish the NBA game was more like the European game, or at least the way I envision it, lots of passing and good shooting, screening and moving, cuts through the lane, that sort of thing. I have fun watching the USA compete in the Olympics under Coach K because they have to adapt to that style, and they are such good athletes that they can do it.

by SW WA Coug on Mar 20, 2009 3:56 PM PDT up reply actions

It's not like this is some huge surprise

The guy was dominant at SPU. He only took the UW assistant gig because he knew that was the only way he was going to get a D-I head coaching job. Since I don't like Arizona

I’d love them to get a name that is just a name, over a coach like Bone. It would be great for the Cougs as well if UA dropped a few rungs down the ladder .

Nicely done sir.

You have inspired me to have a drink! It’s a Double Irish for me.

Speaking of Irish ...

I’m having a cold Smithwick’s. If you’ve never had it, you’re missing out. I had a pint at Kell’s the other night in Portland, and actually found it in a six pack today. So very tasty.

This one is still pretty damn tasty

I had never found it in a bottle before tonight. I also think that the taste is enhanced when drinking it in an Irish pub.

Yeah

I’ve noticed the Guinness out of the can is actually a pretty decent imitation of draught guinness.

It's a Sauza tequilla

step up from their basic tequilla. Still affordable, but very drinkable both straight and in a mixed drink. My personal favorite at home and when ordering out.

Since it's halftime

I want to plug the Sounders. Went to the opening game last night, and it was awesome. Love Qwest field, love the atmosphere, not a huge soccer fan but for a summer activity, it’s a professional sport in a great stadium with some quality players. If you need a summer activity I highly recommend it. And there is a bit of sticking it to Clay Bennet by showing what a sports town Seattle is.

I might have tickets to offer over the site

My best friend and I have season tickets, didn’t really cost us anything, and we’ll probably have a few games to get rid of. If we can’t find any friends for a game, I’ll put them up through a fan post. No promises, but keep it in mind.

I gotta say, the new MMOD is really excellent

Awesome quality. That’s how you foil the people at Justin.tv — by making your free product (in which you force people to watch the ads) better than theirs. Brilliant.

USC is playing Bennett Ball....

Just with better athletes, pulling away a bit right now.

by SW WA Coug on Mar 20, 2009 5:53 PM PDT reply actions

Gotta take MSU in that though

USC might be peaking, but they have too many demons to overcome. I can’t see them hanging with a team that can be physical and make them question each other.

by 02Coug on Mar 20, 2009 5:59 PM PDT up reply actions

I have to respectfully disagree....

It doesn’t matter to USC right now. They will match MSU with manpower and athleticism. I don’t think MSU has faced a club like them yet this season, or in their league. USC is very impressive but I’m totally biased as well.
