BREAKING: Motum --> WSU

Per Grippi, Brock Motum is headed to Washington State. Again.

Motum, the big power forward out of Australia, is the third Bennett recruit to re-affirm his commitment to the Cougars after the hiring of Ken Bone.

Bone has successfully reeled in 3/4ths of Tony's recruiting class. David Chadwick, the remaining commit, was released from his LOI earlier this month. However, Chadwick was arguably the least heralded member of the 2009 class, and also the recruit most likely to have success under a Bennett system. Under Bone's system - well, I have my doubts.

Coach Bone may yet visit Chadwick to see if he wants to remain a Cougar. But so far, so good for the new guy.

Great news

I’m convinced that unless someone really spectacular falls into our laps we should just hold one to the one or two extra scholarships and give them to our walk ons for one year.

hmmm

I think it’s looked down upon to rent a scholarship out to a walk-on for a year

Really?

I’ve never heard that before. If so, then perhaps we should just leave them unused for the year. Our classes really need some balancing.

Oregon State gave 2 of their 5 available

to their 2 walk-on seniors last season. I never heard or read anything that it was looked down. In fact, it was viewed as some kind of classy move to honor the seniors who stuck around for 4 years.

Yeah, but those guys were seniors.

Therefore, you don’t have to take the scholarship away from them the next year because they graduate.

EXACTLY!

And walk-ons are supposed to think that they can earn their scholarships and when they get theirs taken away a few months in to the season for the guys we start to recruit it will be looked down upon.

As long as the player knows what the situation is, it's cool

What you don’t want to do is jerk a guy around. If I’m that guy, I happily take that scholarship, knowing that there remains a strong chance they end up letting me keep it if I earn it.

Thanks for passing on the news

Cougcenter is my point of contact for whats happening at Wazzu. And I’m glad for the cougs and for Ken Bone that he’s been able to secure the new recruits. I’m really looking forward the Boneball, I’m pumped and we’re still months, if not a half a year out.

HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE

Seriously, this is incredible. To have three of the four we really wanted to stay not just stay, but it sounds like enthusiastically stay, is so big. For Bone to successfully (essentially) re-recruit these guys so quickly and emphatically tells me a lot. I’m beyond excited.

Don't get too excited....

Last time I got excited about Bone I ended up feeling like an Iraqi fighter pilot during the Gulf War. Be careful not to be too optimistic. Just saying….

I'm not saying he's the Pied Piper

I’m just saying it gives me hope. That is all.
