OPEN GAME THREAD: Washington State Cougars vs. USC Trojans
In honor of the first regular season game of the year you can see in video, CougCenter will be having its first open game baseball thread. SW WA Coug I hope you're watching today!
The Cougs and Trojans split the first two games of the series. USC pitcher Brad Boxberger shut down the Wazzu offense, striking out 11 and going the distance for a 5-1 win. WSU came back in game two with an 18 hit performance that produced a 13-3 trouncing of Southern Cal.
After the victory yesterday, Washington State moved back into a tie for second place with OSU, and is two games up in the loss column ahead of the fourth-place Trojans. Needless to say, this game is huge for the Cougs. Another road series would look very nice come selection time.
Pitching matchup:
WSU: LH David Stilley (1-0, 3.14 ERA)
USC: RH Robert Stock (3-1, 2.14 ERA)

I know
It’s cool to see. We’re still waiting for Stroughter to be picked. Any Cougs been selected yet?
Not yet
Gibson is still out there, so is stroughter, I think two teams are gonna get late round or free agents steals.

An update
We got 3 runs in the second, two of them off a two-out, two-run single by Vucenich (sp?). Then added a fourth on a homer by Vucenich in the fifth.

Gibson went to a good team for him....
Good coach and good QB will be to his advantage. Glad he didn’t end up in Denver or Oakland, some place like that.
I'm so lonely I could cry....
Just me and my bowl of popcorn.
It’s NOT, I repeat, it’s not KURKENDALL you idiots!!!!

but in his defense
baseball has to be the hardest game to be a color guy for. You have to talk A LOT. That’s why guys like Tim McCarver are on national tv. He may be terrible at providing any sort of substantial analysis, but he has about ten million anecdotes to fill up dead time.
