The job has been offered to ... someone other than Morrill
Updated 10:50 a.m.
Whenever you see this type of announcement, in which a coach publicly says he's no longer a candidate for a job, it generally means one thing: That the job has been offered to someone else, and that person is likely to accept the job.
LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's men's basketball coach Stew Morrill announced Monday morning that he is no longer a candidate for the head coaching position at Washington State University.Morrill, who signed a contract extension with Utah State through the 2014-15 season prior to the 2008-09 campaign, met with officials from Washington State Sunday afternoon.
"I have not and will not pursue other coaching jobs," Morrill stated. "Washington State contacted me and I think it was understood all along that I have deep roots here and it would be very difficult for us to leave Utah State University, Cache Valley and the state of Utah."
It's mostly a PR face saving move for the guy who wasn't picked. So who's been offered the job? Your guess is as good as mine (and we all have guesses), but one thing is certain -- I'd be shocked if we don't hear who our next coach is before the end of the day.
Hat tip to selahcoug for digging up the link.
EDIT, 10:50 a.m.: Same goes for Mike Davis. HOORAY! Someone is getting this job today.
Hat tip to Displaced_Spokanite.

Yay to no Davis.
Bummer about Morrill, but Bone might be a better fit for getting into houses west of the Casacades.

I honestly don't think that should be much of a concern
I don’t want to say never, but we just historically have not gotten recruits from west of the mountains. Sampson was able to do it, but honestly, I really don’t want to know how he did it at this point. It certainly didn’t hurt that UW was down at that time (thanks Andy Russo!), which certainly is not the case now. Those urban kids just aren’t going to generally choose to come to Pullman, not when their heroes (Roy, Robinson, Conroy, Overton, etc.) stay home and “represent the 206.”
We want to get the guys EAST of the mountains — the guys who have been going to Gonzaga the past five years. We’ve made inroads in that respect with Casto, Brown and Simon; now, we need to supplement that talent with whatever else we can find. That’s something Bone has proven to be great at doing while at PSU.
Katz is reporting that we are "looking at" Gillispie
He doesn’t elaborate on what that means. However he still sees Bone as the frontrunner.

Well, who wouldn't "look at" Gillispie?
It would just be stupid to not look at a guy who’s been successful before. My guess is that he’s not a candidate, but that Sterk made some phone calls at some point. Yes, this is what passes for Internet journalism. Sweet.
Bone has the offer...
We’re waiting….

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie
true
I’m thinking coaches aren’t changing their minds as much as we are led to believe. The interwebs \ media are causing the illusion. Everybody has an inside ‘source’. This could be one of those cases as well.
<<says the geek tied to the interwebs waiting to find out who our new coach is
as you said, I will be happier once it is official. I need to go work or get out in the sun until this is over…….
Is it So ?
First, remember Coug Nation, that this coach ( whoever ) comes with the caveat that just maybe, if successful, he may leave some day ! Never forget that ! Never forget who we are and what it will always mean to be an underdog, in the eyes of ‘others’ But we know different !
Second, I was kinda coming around to having a positive opinion on Mr. Porter, but, perhaps that will not be – so be it – we are getting, what I think will be another very good coach ! This speaks to the place that our program is now and is a great point for the players and recruits to ponder in the coming days !
Very exciting times for Bball !
