Around SBN: New York Giants Super Bowl XLVI Ring Unveiled

Washington State University has offered its men’s basketball coaching position to Portland State’s Ken Bone and is waiting for his decision, The Spokesman-Review has learned. Sources close to the situation said Bone, 50, has been the focus of the week-long search to replace Tony Bennett, who left after three years as WSU coach to take the same position at the University of Virginia.

So says Grippi. It would be a major upset at this point if Bone didn't take the job -- unlike a lot of other schools (looking at you, Arizona) this kind of stuff doesn't generally leak out of the WSU camp unless it's pretty close to a done deal. Cross your fingers.

Why wouldn't he?

I’ll keep my fingers crossed as well, just in case. My toes too. I really hope he accepts the job. He’s gonna find practically the whole Cougar population firmly in support of him.

Here’s to hoping he’s taking care of business on his end and just making sure key people in his camp don’t read it in the paper before it’s confirmed. I doubt Sterk would offer a job to someone he wasn’t sure would accept it.

This is a really good hire for us.

Go Cougs!!!

He's letting PSU know...hopefully

He has to break it down to the PSU players just like Tony did last week. Hopefully he is over to Pullman at some point tonight. Bone wants a Pac 10 job and likes the NW. UW isn’t opening any time soon, Kent seems to have 9 lives at Oregon, and who knows what’s up with Robinson at OSU. Plus, OSU already passed on him last year anyway. Who’s to say any of the 3 would hire him?

It would shock me if Bone rejected the offer but I guess stranger things have happened. I like the choice if it works out this way. It will be interesting to see how the staff is filled out and which of the incoming recruits will stick.

I honestly don’t think he can recruit the right kids that he needs to play his style of offense… hopefully he proves me wrong! Go Cougs!

And I bet Thames is gone.

On what basis?

You just said you don’t think he can recruit the kinds of kids to play his style on the assumption that he wants to play more up-tempo than Tony, yet you think that the one recruit in our class you can play that style is going to want out of his letter? You make no sense.

So let me ask you this?

Do you think we should have gone to Xavier Thames and asked him who we should hire so that he would stay with his commitment to the Cougars?

“Hey X, If we hire (fill in the name) will you still come to Pullman?” Is that what you’re saying?

No matter who we hire there’s a solid chance we lose some of Tony’s recruits. I thought about every one of those coaching names you’ve suggested. I’m pretty sure Sterk was aware of them too.

He hired Dick Bennett from out of nowhere. Nobody saw that coming. Does it really matter who contacted who first?

Sterk was in Detroit during the weekend. Where better to be?

Give Bone a chance like you said you did with Wulff after you saw his first recruiting class.
