LA Times: Q&A with new Pac-10 commish
Apparently, the vogue thing is to do Q&A with important people, rather than take the time to compose a story. Sometimes, though, the unfiltered nature can be pretty cool, as is the case with this one -- a must read if you're interested in how the Pac-10 will be different under Larry Scott's leadership.
One thing you'll notice right away? This guy is far from the typical NCAA cronie that mans so many of these positions across the country. He's a business man, pure and simple, and his business is clearly to make the conference a better business. I love it.

Already a giant improvement. Just the fact that he addressed all the issues with a perceived degree of skepticism is great. I never got the sense that Hansen felt like he should or had to do anything more than the status quo.
Great Questions
I am usually frustrated about Q&As because of the typical ’what’s your favorite color?’ type questions. These are some really good questions that people are honestly concerned about (i.e. playoffs and officiating). I would love to revisit these questions in a year or two when Scott has more experience with the conference.
I thought his answers were a bit political
Not really answering them completely, but he isn’t even on the job yet so I guess he doesn’t know the answers. i do like the hire though and he should be WAY better than Hansen, which wouldn’t be tough, but at least they got someone from outside the family. I think he can definitely help the conference with tv deals.
I think he used the appropriate amount of candor
You can’t expect much at this point, but to me it was the language he used to answer them that matters. Hansen always acted as if he was either unaware or unconcerned about the national profile of the conference. It was such a provincial attitude — almost a “they need us more than we need them” kind of attitude. This guy has already acknowledged more reality before officially taking the post than Hansen ever did.
And I mentioned in the post how much I love the business jargon from Scott. I can’t reiterate that enough, because that kind of perspective is such a change from the previous regime.
