Cougs fall to Beavers, 8-2
After taking the series opener in Corvallis last night, the Cougs were tripped up today by a five-run sixth inning in today's outing. Chad Arnold (6-3) suffers the loss.
WSU now sits at 27-22 overall, 15-8 in the Pac-10. Still clinging on to second place.
The key game is tomorrow, where the Cougs try to win a critical conference series on the road.
After that, it's on the road for a Tuesday make-up game at Gonzaga, and then back to the friendly confines of Bailey-Brayton for the incredibly critical (and final) series of the year against the University of Washington.
It's always gotta be the Huskies, doesn't it?

It's all about game 3!
Arnold was in and out of trouble all day but actually had a solid outing. The bats need to wake up tomorrow if they are to pull another one out in Corvalis.
This game is absolutely huge.
Prior to this series, the guys who project the brackets have been putting OSU ahead of us in the brackets despite the fact that we have played the 2nd toughest schedule in the nation. If OSU takes this game, we are essentially considered at best the 3rd best team in the Pac-10, and that is if we take down UW.
Worst yet, if we win this sending OSU to their 11 league, loss but lose 2 out of 3 to UW, I am concerned the selection committee will go with ASU, 2nd place UW and then OSU over us, which would be highway robbery. But it’s happened to our women’s soccer team and my guess it will happen again.
I think the loss of Burg has been critical. Ponciano has done well, but we need Burg.
From here on out....
Every game in critical and every win is crucial.
I saw yesterday’s game and the final score is not indicative of the type of game it was. It was winable during the first 5 innings but we were our own worst enemy and OSU got some key hits at the worse possible time for us to score their first three runs. Wagner walks and hits the first two batters of the game and gives up a run. A key two out hit in the second scores another. Kuykendall makes a great try on a low liner that he probably should have caught.
He hit that bomb right over my head and the bleachers in right field to tie it up, Wagner seemed to find his groove and if our bats would have done anything at all, we could have put some pressure on OSU. We hit three balls hard early and all of them were right at somebody. Some days it’s feast, others it’s famine. What’s nice about baseball is that there’s always tomorrow.
The Cougs need to have short memories and go at em hard today and I think we get a victory. I think we have a better team overall but it depends on our pitching.
On a final note, OSU fans are super people. I got to the game early, met a few of their supporters, and it all turned into a very good experience for my wife and me. One of OSU faithful I talked with graduated around the time I did and there was some Wazzu fans there that knew the players really well, especially Chad Arnold and some of the others he coached in summer leagues. Great weather, really nice stadium, a short easy drive.
Go Cougs!!!
Of all the teams in the Pac-10
OSU is the only one I find that I can root for. I think we’re kind of kindred spirits.

I agree...
WSU and OSU are similar in many ways. I don’t mind rooting for OSU at all… unless if they’re playing us of course, but even then, no hurt feelings after..
