UW Football Joins the Bailout Craze

UW Football Bailout - Seattle Times

In an effort to inflate season ticket numbers, draw more crowds to Husky Stadium, and raise more money for their athletic department, the UW is now offering a season ticket bailout program.  The jist of it is that people may donate money towards paying for season tickets for former holders who could not renew for "economic reasons".  The effort was started by a group of boosters who did not want rough economic times to prevent people from coming out to watch another year of blowout losses.

I like it

Smart on their part to try and help people out. Sometimes, all it takes is bridging that gap for a year until things turn around. I’m surprised, though, that they’re using the money to give full tickets to fans. Seems like they could do more good by using the money to significantly reduce the price for more people. But overall, I think Husky fans deserve a lot of credit for this.

I think its an idea that could work at WSU as well

I also thought that there could be better ways to use the money than buying full season tickets, but if the economy does turn in the next year, then they may well end up keeping a ton of fans they would have lost.

Unfortunately I doubt we’d have the donor power to pull anything off like this. It’s interesting that people would donate to provide tickets for those who can’t afford. Seems like a better use than donating to the program since you’re helping out someone directly.

The difference for UW

is that they’ve got a lot of really, really longtime season ticket holders with priority points for stuff. Coug season tickets seem to come and go more than the UW tickets have.

True

And if they can bridge a gap where a longtime season ticket holder couldn’t afford it this year, but will next year, then the plan is doing what it was meant too.

Seems that cougar season ticket holders are much more fluid. Maybe because of the location and costs associated with not just the tickets, but the travel and hotel expenses, keep people from maintaining season tickets for long periods of time like at UW. It’s too bad because the experience of a WSU game in Pullman is a great one.

They have an attractive schedule....

and they’re going to want to get as much visibility for the stadium remodel as well. It might work. Depends on how much losing they can stomach.

I asked at the ticket office

I have asked before if you can donate tickets and received a no. Does anyone know if this is true? Does WSU have anything for people willing to buy a season ticket and donate it to someone else?

For some reason

I find this hilarious. Somehow rough economic times = rough husky times.
