Cougars complete sweep of the Huskies

The Washington State Cougar baseball team was able to shake off another short start by redshirt freshman David Stilley to defeat the University of Washington Huskies 10-5.  The win completed a three-game sweep of UW and sent the seniors, who were playing their final game at Bailey-Brayton field, off in style.

Jay Ponciano continued to be a thorn in the Huskies' side, as he went 2 for 4 with a double and a homerun.  UW slugger Kyle Conley rounded out what was a forgettable series for him, going 0 for 14 with 8 strikeouts.

The Cougar bullpen was the story of the day, as they held the Husky bats scoreless in the final 6 1/3 innings of the game.  This was the third sweep in conference play for the Cougs.  WSU baseball had not swept anyone since the Pac 10 reunification in 1999 prior to this season.

This is pretty sweet, not many things better than beating up on the Huskies.

ESPN will be broadcasting the College Baseball NCAA tournament selection show tommorrow at 9:30am.  CougCenter will have a thread up for those of you who want to discuss the Cougs' first trip to regionals in 19 years.

I went over to the DawgPound to get their take on the series....

And nary a word about their baseball team or the revenue sharing thoughts from Woodward. What did catch my attention was the headline about Ryan Leaf. I find all of this rather interesting.

I’m not sure what to make of it. Maybe it’s just because it’s Memorial Day weekend and I don’t have a life. But I did take my wife on a nice drive to see the fish ladder at the Bonneville Dam and drove a little farther east on Hwy 14 to Hood River, just to do some sight seeing.

I don't blame them

If we were in their position and were just swept by the Pups, I wouldn’t want to hear anything about it either. Maybe it’s just me…

I think it would really help if Alex Burg....

Can contribute a bit. We need another bat to really get our offense humming. I was impressed by our bullpen over the weekend and our starters are doing a good job too.

It will be interesting to see which regional we get assigned to, which seed we get, and how we do against top-notch competition every game from here on out.

Hopefully, playing a tough non-conference schedule helps us. It will sure be fun to watch the games on TV from here on out. They are going to be televised aren’t they?

Go Cougs!!!

Rivals.com Kendall Rogers predicts the Cougs....

will end up in Austin, Texas as a #3 seed.

The complete pairings will be announced during Monday’s The Road to Omaha selection show (ESPN, 9:30 a.m. PT).

Go Cougs!

If the Cougars were to win their regional...

They might be able to host their super-regional if they win the bid. Yet that is probably pretty doubtful considering their attendance at games.

Hood River

The tree ripened peaches from Hood River come mid August are simply incredible. The size of softballs and so sweet and juicy !

May have to make a day trip and get two cases – you have to eat them fast, though ! Only happens once a year :)
