And with the 167th pick, WSU senior lefty Matt Way officially became the first Cougar selected in the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft when the Philadelphia Phillies took him off the board in the fifth round.

Congrats to Matt on a well-deserved honor. We'll update the running list below as the other guys come off the board.

  • 13th Round (395): Jeremy Johnson, RHP (Cleveland)

I'm really happy for Matt....

Part of me wanted him to get drafted by the M’s but another part of me didn’t. I’m not so sure they do a very good job of getting kids ready for the parent club. He’s be perfect for Safeco. Philadelphia is more of a hitter’s park, but Moyer has done okay there, I’d say.

Anyway, he seemed to be getting better by the start so I’m excited to see how he does. Good luck, Matt!

Jered Prince

34th round (1024 overall) as an outfielder to the Texas Rangers.

Took a lot longer than I expected. Best of luck to him.

Marbut had some good things to say about Jared's chances....

His overall skill level is amazing. Physically he reminds me of Edgar. He puts the ball into play. I don’t think a wooden bat will be a detriment to him at all. Prince, Way and Arnold were the kids that stood out the most to me, but I only saw a limited about of action. I hope all the Cougs that got drafted do well.
