Chris Ivory --> Places Unknown

Grippi drops the first bombshell from fall practice:

Ivory, who I mentioned above, wasn’t at practice today and is no longer with the team. Ivory was dismissed for a violation of team rules, according to sports information director Bill Stevens. I will have more in tomorrow’s S-R.

Umm.... okay? I'm sure VG will have more light to shed on this in the morning, but for now the Cougs' running back depth, which was oh so sweet a moment ago, has taken a hit. Of course, with Ivory being #3 or #4 on the depth chart (depending on where you put Logwone Mitz), maybe this isn't that big a deal. We still have Tardy and Montgomery. For now.

There have been rumblings since the end of last season

that he might have played his last game for WSU. Most people assumed it was injury related, but it always seemed like there might be a little more to it than that. Whenever people talked about the runningbacks, he was left out of the conversation more often than not — surprising for a guy who had more or less been productive (when he wasn’t fumbling the ball).

As for what this does to our runningback depth, I’m not even remotely concerned. You’ve still got …

1. Montgomery/Tardy
2. Tardy/Montgomery
3. Mitz
4. Richmond

That’s a pretty damn impressive stable.

Ivory

Ivory was a good insurance policy in case of injuries. He and that other running back from Texas had some talent but obviously couldn’t get past the other stuff. Stripling and Nwachaku are about all that is left of the “great Tejas pipeline”. Nwachaku has really seemed to come around and if Stripling can stay on the field he could end up having a nice year probably playing most of the linebacker spots.

I hope this doesn’t impact the APR too much.

Wow, that's something I hadn't really thought about

Pellum, Giles, Frank, Ivory … that could be quite the hit if any or all were not on track for graduation. The good news is that the NCAA is being pretty lenient with penalties if measures are being put in place and things are heading in the right direction. That’s obviously the case.

Giles

I believe I read that Giles is at least still in school and working toward graduating.

I kind of figured Ivory was the odd man out anyway, he seemed to be #4 and as a Senior I wasn’t sure he was going to stick around. I only hope they still redshirt Staden and give his knee another year to recover. That will also help out next year bringing back Montgomery, Mitz, Staden, Richmond and the two freshman who will most likely redshirt this year as well.
