POST GAME THREAD: Soooo.....
That was awful. Awful. Awful. That team was not prepared to play that game. When we think preparedness, who do we think of? The head coach.
Paul Wulff is officially on the hot seat. That was an embarrassment.
What do you guys think?

Down 35 to 0 isn't even close to acceptable
Our defensive game plan, if you can call it that, was so bad that I wonder if the coaches had watched any film at all. Going in we know two things. 1) Hawai’i passes on nearly every down, with lots of short routes. 2) They struggled to protect the QB last week. Yet we had no way to get pressure with 4 guys rushing and we were giving them a huge cushion allowing for short passs.
I was amazed at how bad we looked in that first half.
Um, we didn't even start rushing four guys until we were down 14-0
We started out in a 3-3-5 with three rushers for the first two series. Unbelievably stupid game plan.
this reminds me way too much of last year but worse, a glimpse of ability in game one (39-13) then a team that looks absolutely unprepared in game two, does anyone blame sterk here or is wulff all alone on the hot seat?
Blame goes to Wulff and to budget realities at WSU
I can’t blame Sterk for this hire, I look at what he’s accomplished with our basketball team and I think he knows what he’s doing. But it’s possible he was given a cap on what he shoudl pay a new coach, and Wulff came cheap. This is fully my own theory, I have little to back it up with other then the salary of our coaching staff in comparison with the rest of the Pac 10 football coaches.
Hard to blame Sterk
Dick Bennett, June Daugherty, Andrew Palileo, Donnie Marbut, Ken Bone⦠Sterk has done well to bring in good coaches despite the obvious budget constraints at WSU.
Now, what we maybe should regret is the fact we hired one of those search firms to help figure out that the "best" coach for us was 70 miles up the road at Eastern.
I want Wulff to succeed, but nights like tonight just hurt.
well...
…On a much happier note..the wazzu volley team continued there stunning string of success defeating the vandals 3-2 to remain undefeated at 9-0….
reason why we lost:
1st quarter: check
turnovers: check
moving the ball: nope
outplayed with superior talent: nope
outcoached: check:
I cant beleive I forgot the biggest check of them all:
KEVIN LOPINA…you suck…words fail to describe your performance on the field..staring down receivers he’s throwing too..overthrowing..underthrwing..running and not looking for the open man down field…the ONLY reason we moved the ball was because of a superb rushing attack which opened the field up….
I just read that central washington beat a potent west texas A&M team 34-10 on Sammamish/Eastlake HS native, Ryan Roberstons 227 passing yards and 4 touchdowns, why is Robertson not playing for us? Lopina should take note from Rbertsons performance..
…I know this is a different league entirely…but Central is ranked #6 in the land for their division, not bad for a team from ellensburg washington…. which isnt exactly a recruiting hotbed…maybe them and the cougs could suit up and swap places.
7 Turnovers
The Seven Turnovers were accomplished by players on the field. They directly led to 21 points for Hawaii. Wulff had nothing to do with their performance on the field. They are responsible for that. Oh yes, we are very inexperienced. But we will get there, just believe……..
So, did he not have anything to do with the way the Hawaii offense sliced through us for a 35-0 lead?
And if not, why even have coaches, if they don’t make any difference on players’ execution or the outcome of the game?
Simply a debacle
As a student who put off doing some very pressing homework and miss out on some very rocking parties (on my birthday weekend no less) to drive 6 hours to seattle and watch an over hyped game of grab-a$$, I’d say im pretty mad.
I don’t know who to blame, the coaching or the players… but to watch my cougars, who last week against Stanford at least showed some fight despite the obvious lack of talent, get physically and mentally beat by Hawaii… it was heart breaking. I was one of the many convinced that this year would be different, and last years disgrace was behind us.
If we can’t win next week, something will have to change
