Keys to the Game:

1. Limit turnovers.  SMU does not have a good defense.  Their saving grace has been 11 takeaways.  If the Cougs hold onto the ball, they should be able to move down the field and put up some points.  We saw last week what a string of turnovers can do this this team.  That leads me to my second point...

2. Don't fall behind early.  22-3 at halftime against Stanford, 38-6 against Hawai'i.  Wazzu cannot afford to bury themselves again with turnovers, three and outs, special teams mistakes, and big plays.  Nuss has made the comment several times that this Cougar team has taken nearly all the fun out of watching the past two seasons.  The crowd will be sparse, but keep them in their seats this time!

3.  Run the ball.  The Cougs are going to throw out two young quarterbacks today and they need to take the pressure off by moving the ball on the ground.  SMU's run defense is suspect, so they have a chance to make some gains on the legs of Montgomery and company.

Activity to do on another tab while watching the game:  Vote for Butch!  He is locked in a tight battle with the badger from Wisconsin.  If we can't win on the football field, maybe we can win in mascot voting!  To vote, go here.

This game is our best shot to avoid the dreaded 0-12 season.  Let's hope these Cougs can get it done!

Pregame?

What time does the pregame show usually start? 1:30? I found a link to the Seattle area broadcast, but they’re talking about politics right now and it’s making me fall asleep. Also, any other internet-radio sites anyone recommends?

by Kyle Rancourt on Sep 19, 2009 1:09 PM PDT reply actions

You won't find a Cougar feed.

The University doesn’t allow it since they charge on their site. You can find the SMU feed here.

If you have XM

You can get the Pac-10 games on their website. I don’t know if you get the home or away feed, though.

GO D

we stopped an opening drive with a TO. WOOOOOOT

by woolybugger on Sep 19, 2009 4:01 PM PDT reply actions

It's weird

it’s only 17-7. By no means is this game over. But I just feel like we have zero chance to win. Maybe it’s just me being pessimistic. But they haven’t shown me any reason to think otherwise.

by Kyle Rancourt on Sep 19, 2009 4:07 PM PDT reply actions

Yea

I know how you feel. And assss you speak they prove your point.

by 907coug on Sep 19, 2009 4:08 PM PDT up reply actions

We reallly need this game....

Every single Pac-10 game is going to be soo ugly

by 907coug on Sep 19, 2009 4:07 PM PDT reply actions

Yay Basketball?

I shouldn’t be thinking about basketball this soon…but I am.

by Kyle Rancourt on Sep 19, 2009 4:09 PM PDT reply actions

where?

in Pullman? or is that the one that’s in Spokane? or am I just wrong on both accounts and its somewhere else

by Kyle Rancourt on Sep 19, 2009 4:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Jones burned again

Can we get a tally of touchdowns this year that were due to him? Are we at lujuan gibbons levels by game 3?

by BigWood! on Sep 19, 2009 4:10 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

yeah

I thought I was the only one noticing Brandon Jones was getting absolutely torched. yuck

by Kyle Rancourt on Sep 19, 2009 4:14 PM PDT up reply actions

QB

Why is Lobbestael still in the game? He is WAY, WAY worse then Lopina has been.

by spokanecougar on Sep 19, 2009 4:14 PM PDT reply actions

I'm with Walden

Bring on Tuel. I hate burninig his shirt but it is what it is. If he is going to play at some point anyway it might as well be now.

by BornCoug on Sep 19, 2009 4:14 PM PDT reply actions

Yes

bring Rien Long back please. that’d be nice. Will Derting too while you’re at it.

by Kyle Rancourt on Sep 19, 2009 4:18 PM PDT reply actions

I hate how we give up.

They score once and Wulff packs it in. Walden basically said he’s not bringing in Tuel because the game is over. Really? The SEASON is over. Who cares about the game? This is why you don’t burn Tuel’s redshirt. Good lord this is getting painful.

Pizza, crushed red peppers and a sore thoat do not work well together.

but I need to comfort food.

by woolybugger on Sep 19, 2009 4:34 PM PDT up reply actions

its getting bad

Smu player was getting up off the ground after the play and Toby Turpin shoved him back into the ground.

So we’re classy too

Woooooooo.....

oooooooooooooooooooooooooo

by TrueCoug on Sep 19, 2009 4:28 PM PDT reply actions

So, um

was that just a botched snap? or were we really going for 2? I missed the call.

by Kyle Rancourt on Sep 19, 2009 4:33 PM PDT reply actions

mark it

That was the first broken up pass over the middle of the wulff era.

Then SMU threw it to the exact same spot on the next play and gained 8 and a first down.

by BigWood! on Sep 19, 2009 4:37 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

lowered expectations

The band just went through the whole jaws routine after we held them to a field goal

by BigWood! on Sep 19, 2009 4:42 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

So

we have no pass rush for the entire remainder of the season ?

by Steptoe Fan on Sep 19, 2009 4:48 PM PDT reply actions

Dear Mr Walden

If we are going to be honest about Pac 10 replays, why ever go up to the booth? Have the EVER reversed a call?

by DCinSEA on Sep 19, 2009 5:03 PM PDT up reply actions

by 907coug on Sep 19, 2009 5:04 PM PDT up reply actions
