This is why life as a Cougar football fan sucks: Montgomery done
Is it the losing? That's certainly tough, but it's crap like this that just depresses the hell out of you. The team shows some fight, flashes some ability ... and then this. Over and over and over again.
It's like the football gods are paying us back for letting us taste Pac-10 championships.

This really sucks to lose
Montgomery and Anderson in back to back weeks. But the brunt of this is softened by the fact that we still have Tardy and others at RB who can run the ball. It hurts, but it is at least manageable.
What are the rules on medical redshirts? I know he is already a redshirt JR but I remember this topic coming up after Rogers went down early last year.

No chance
You have to have lost two seasons to medical problems AND not have played in more than 10 percent of your team’s games. Montgomery fails on both counts. He’ll be back as a senior.
This is just such a punch in the gut. He’s our ONE LEGIT GAMEBREAKER — one of a handful of guys that could actually start on another Pac-10 team. He’s the kind of guy who could lead us to a win all on his own on a special day. And now he’s gone.
I’m just heartbroken right now.

I agree the odds are long ...
… but not impossible. The rules are more like guidelines. The fact that he already used up a redshirt, however, is a big strike against it.
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.

And the fact that he's played in 3 games
Well over the 10 percent guideline. He’s never getting this year back.

It could've been worse
I thought run of the mill ACL injury when I heard knee injury. After reading about it more, this could’ve been way worse for Montgomery and his future. It’s heartbreaking to lose such an exciting player to a fluke injury but I’m glad that he will recover and be healthy.
The last thing I’d want is a kid to lose a leg because of a football game

Unfortunately I may have spoke to soon
It sounds as if Wulff fears it may be the end of his career. Really not a good injury at all and a fluke one at that. I’d never heard of a football player having it

Quote from Grippi
“If left untreated and the pressure isn’t relieved quickly, nerves and muscles can die and permanent disability or even death can occur, according to the website. Montgomery’s surgery removed some muscle tissue, possibly putting his football career in doubt. The severity of Montgomery’s injury forced removal of some muscle tissue, putting his football future in jeopardy.”
What a shame

I feel bad for this guy.
Redshirted one year, played in a backup role the next, sat out his transfer season last year, and barely gets to play this season. I hope for his sake as much as ours that he comes back and has a monster senior year.

Depending on how quickly they caught it
this could be career threatening. Acute compartment syndrome is apparently no joke.
It may take several hours for acute compartment syndrome to develop. Within the muscle compartment, swelling and/or bleeding creates pressure on capillaries and nerves. When the pressure in the compartment exceeds the blood pressure within the capillaries, the capillaries collapse. This disrupts the blood flow to muscle and nerve cells. Without a steady supply of oxygen and nutrients, nerve and muscle cells begin to die within hours. Unless the pressure is relieved quickly, this can cause permanent disability or death.
Man I hope everything works out for him.

Husky nation...
…. regrets the loss of one-time Husky commit James Montgomery. While I cannot say that we feel really bad (we are still the Dawgs), we can sympathize with the notion that when it rains it pours.
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
