We did our attendance today and noticed sophomore Kevin Norrell wasn’t at practice. It turns out Norrell, who was sick last week, was arrested after 3 a.m. by the Pullman police for, to quote from the police blotter, "DUI AND Reckless Driving AND Criminal Trespassing 2nd Degree AND No Valid Operating License without ID," (I cut and pasted directly from the police blotter). Also, redshirt freshman linebacker Joshua Garrett was cited for minor exhibiting at the same time. Norrell has been suspended. We’ll try to have more after practice.
Via Grippi. That's so not good.

So if a guy gets suspended for a year for a sucker punch, what sort of punishment would this receive?
Important factors to consider:
1) It wasn’t televised on ESPN
2) It probably won’t make it on SportsCenter.
I just hate the fact that stuff like this becomes a sports news headline.
I couldn’t really care less… I wish they’d just put this junk down as a footnote on something else.
It would be one thing if he was a walk-on freshman
He was projected to be a starting WR. That’s kind of a big deal.
His apartment smells of rich mahogany
In all seriousness…do you guys still feel like Paul is the right man for the job. I’m enamored with blatant and biased homerism and I’m as guilty as the next guy. But as an outsider it seems obvious to me that Wulff just isn’t ready for a D-1 job, let alone a Pac-10 gig.
The cupboard was empty
Really, really, REALLY empty.
I will say this: The gains this team made in the offseason tell me the players are buying in. That’s an encouraging sign. He also was able to sign one of the school’s better recruiting classes during that debacle of last year. Also a positive.
I think it’s going to take at least one more year — possibly two — before we can even fairly evaluate him. The hole he started in was just so unbelievably massive. Much deeper than Sark’s.
This is true...
but that recruiting class was fairly heavy with in state talent (alot from west of the mountains) and UW going through a coaching change and 0-12 season.
It just seems to me that he has poor X’s and O’s play calling ability. Notably the drives that Lobster was leading (John B said this on his blog earlier), they got away from the running game (the best unit on the team) and now have named Lopina the starter for week 2. Why would you give Lopina the reigns when Lobster is clearly the better (physically) QB. He has to know that this season is a rebuilding year (moral victories aside), so set yourself up for success next year by getting Lobster that big game experience.
Some of his decisions just don’t add up to me. I don’t mean to bash because I really want both WA schools to pick up the pace and get back to respectability, but I just can’t see it under Wulff. I think a lot of it could be due to the alumni connection and the cheap price tag he came with.
Lobbestael might be better physically
But he’s not currently a better quarterback, and quite possibly the best QB on the roster is sitting on the bench redshirting. With another decent QB recruit coming in next year, Lobbestael will likely be fighting for playing time for the rest of his career. No reason to make him the heir apparent and build to a mythical next year if he a) hasn’t earned it in fall camp and b) might not win it next year anyway.
