Episode 4 of 18 And Life is now live, featuring Pac-10 writer Jon Wilner!

Hey everyone -- just wanted to let you know the fourth episode of 18 And Life, the Pac-10 hoops podcast, is live this morning. Here's a quick rundown of what we talk about on the show, in which we ...

  • … start off by discussing the return of Washington after two convincing wins at home, the startlingly quick fall from grace by Oregon, and just how it is that UCLA has gotten so bad so quickly.
  • … welcome in San Jose Mercury News writer Jon Wilner, who’s been covering the Pac-10 for 20 years and whose College Hotline blog is required reading for any Pac-10 fan. We discuss the status of basketball in the conference (he thinks it’s the worst he’s ever seen), the jobs the Bay Area coaches are doing in year two of their respective reigns (jury’s still out), what’s going on at UCLA (too many recruiting misses), and who he thinks will eventually win the conference (hint: it’s not Cal).
  • … break down Arizona State, which seems to get consistently overlooked, yet sits in first place after three weeks.
  • … preview the interesting matchups of the weekend.

If you haven't ever listened to the podcast or haven't listened in a while, I'll make it real easy for you this week by embedding the player here in the post. Nice work!

I’ve been really impressed by the quality of these podcasts, not to say that the CougCenter one is shoddy or anything. They’re definitely two different animals though. 18 And Life feels more professional, whereas CougCenter’s is more like us talking in comments or FanPosts. They’re both great.

I’m really pleased you’ve been able to get John Gasaway and Jon Wilner on so far. Also the dude from the Oregonian (I think). Not to say you guys aren’t good yourselves, but the guest interviews are usually my favorite part. It’s nice to hear a conversation with some of these beat reporters instead of reading a column which may be targeted more towards page views than analysis.

Glad you like it

Seth and I feel like it’s getting better every week. And you’re right — we mean for it to have a little different vibe.

For some reason I always start reading these titles as "Episode 4 of 18..."

And I think, why are there only 18 episodes? And then I say, oh yeah, “18 and Life”. Duh.
