In Case You Missed It Today...
During the hubbub of the Diamond Head Classic, something may have slipped under your radar. I'm here to give you a little reminder of a small game on the East Coast that should give you all a taste of some delicious schadenfreude.

Wow Tony...
I could have told you that the ACC was going to eat you alive, but Seattle U? You deserve it… I hope you lose by double that next game.
P.S. This was a much nicer post than the one that I originally posted, but deleted.

This is great
I hadn’t seen the box score until reading this post
Points and laughs
Tony’s teams have been wildly inconsistent at UVa… there have been flashes of success, but then nights like this.
He’s still on pace for my prediction of Tony Bennett NBA Assistant Coach in 2015.

Greatness!
I’m going to stick with 1-0 against Washington teams though because I refuse to acknowledge anything positive about uw.

He had so much goodwill as well
He could have lost for 3 or 4 years and WSU probably would have kept his job. Now he is out on the end of the branch, making a whole lot of money at a school that thinks it is far better than it actually is.
But there is a big part of me that wants him to succeed. Him and his Dad made watching WSU BBall fun again. I do enjoy him losing to schools from Washington or the Pac-10 because that is poetic justice.
My theroy is...
He is forced to wear a tie…

Honestly, a bunch of classless clown posts.
TB and DB took our program to new heights and set the stage for what we are now achieving. How short-sighted and forgetful we all are.

Hardly Classless
Maybe not in the best taste, considering the depths from which we were hauled out from, but Dick did that, not 5 pillars. Thus the coattail kid moniker.
Dick Bennett took our program to new heights
He was the architect of the whole thing and is still my favorite coach of all time. He gave his son the reigns and at the first sign of trouble Tony bolted and hung all his assistants out to dry. He broke promises to recruits and cost guys their jobs all to make 600k more in a shiny arena in Charlottesville where they didn’t want him anyway.
If you’re going to preach things like humility and a team concept, you should back them up with your actions. Those were an incredible three years under Tony, and I’m thankful. But he should’ve shown WSU the patience we gave him.

Can any of us really blame him
He did not get along with Sterk from the rumor mill and someone came in and offered him twice as much money. Most of us would have made the same move given the circumstances.
Let’s also not forget that he brought in Thompson, Casto and Capers. So he deserves some goodwill for that.
That being said, I do love seeing Pac-10/Washington schools beat him! I think we ended up better off as a result of who Sterk chose to succeed him, but there is no doubt that we owe a lot to Tony Bennett!!
there's a large chasm between "can't blame him for leaving" and "still rooting for him"
WSU offered him a very generous salary with about 10 years worth of leeway if things went south. It’s not like he was making Paul Wulff money.
He chose being a middle of the road ACC coach over being a WSU icon. That was his decision. It may have been the best decision for him. But I’m not going out and buying Virginia gear, either.

That is what you call hitting the nail on the head.
"If you want your dreams to come true, don't sleep in."
Bigwood you are right
There is a large chasm between those two. He had built enough goodwill with me to have 10 years of mediocrity. I agree he was also making a lot of money, enough to have whatever he wanted in Pullman. Everything pointed to being good reasons to stay. But he wanted the spotlight and now he has it and I am not sure if he wants in anymore.
But I do hope that he succeeds in the same way I like Mike Price to succeed. I don’t care enough to root for either one. But I don’t have any animosity that causes me to find enjoyment in their misery.
it's all in fun, i think
it’s pretty ironic to watch him leave to take his career to the next level, only to continue getting knocked around by the same teams that would’ve kicked his ass here.
I agree
You know it is interesting how far he has deviated from the type of coaching he did at WSU. Those teams are not even close to play the fundamental ball that his teams had when he was our coach.
I think he is really missing Ben Johnson these days. And that my friend has to taste pretty sweet after Johnson got left in a precarious situation by his long time pal.
please
WSU gave Tony a job that no other school in America would’ve given him. Dick Bennett took the WSU rebuild job with the terms that Tony would become the coach once the pieces were in place. Once those pieces were gone, Tony left.
While I’m thankful for what he and his father did for WSU basketball, I don’t have to wish him well when we were paying him over a million dollars a year to coach in a town where everything costs a dollar.
I’m not rooting for him to lose every game, nor do I wish him ill, but I’m not going to pretend it’s not awesome everytime he’s reminded the grass isn’t always greener.
The tie
I think is proof he’s a sellout. My brother started not wearing ties when he dressed up becasue Tony didn’t wear ties either.
