Keys to a Cougar Victory
As Nuss pointed it out in the podcast this team was able to limit turnovers and get to the free throw line against the Huskies in Seattle. That of course could do little to prevent an abysmal offensive performance. My keys to the game tonight?
1) Shoot well
2) Shoot well
3) Shoot well
(That's quality analysis you can only find here)
The Cougs couldn't buy a bucket last time out and that led to a lot of transition opportunities for the Huskies. Also, let's play some more man-to-man please! Boo zone. We have to some good on-ball defenders, let's see what they can do.
This game is billed as a sellout. It's Nik night. Oregon just swept the LA schools.
Let's get a freaking win.

I have bad news for you tonight...
Four words: Lenny Wilkins, Color Commentator
Another four words: My ears are bleeding
I'm really intrigued
by this CougarLife website that’s advertising here.

Alright
It is nice to see Beasley full again

I was going to write a post about this yesterday, but ran out of time
A huge key to me is figuring out a way to get in the lane. If you can get past the Huskies’ ball pressure on the perimeter — something we didn’t do at all in the first matchup — their interior defense is not very good. Isaiah Thomas and Venoy Overton were masterful on Klay and Reggie in the first matchup. We’ve got to do a better job against them. Passing the ball would be a good start.
a large number of our fans are already drunk
This year the Huskies will actually see a home court advantage
by Grady Clapp on Feb 27, 2010 6:54 PM PST via mobile reply actions
"Right now, Arizona State and Cal are in for sure"
He’s talking about the NCAA tournament. The lesson, of course, is NEVER TALK ABOUT THINGS YOU KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT.
The video stream post above is on FSN Arizona
Which according to my schedule is USC vs Oregon State. Does anyone have another video stream link?
how bout stupid WCC
apparently Gonzaga is already in the tournament semi’s
www.nwfan.com
Well, Klay is singlhandedly taking us out of this game
He’s now ended about six possessions with no points.
I think the Cougs are going to make a comeback and win this game.
It is coming too easy for the uw and WSU has many shots that are rimming out. The tide will turn. Just watch.
if they won't give us calls
This game is over
by Grady Clapp on Feb 27, 2010 7:14 PM PST via mobile reply actions
Game over, we lost
these FSN guys suck, they love UW to much, but we lost this game already, see you all next year.
There are two more games against the Oregon schools
Or are you joking?
Refs seem to be favoring UW early
Have we had a home court advantage with the refs at all this season?
by spokanecougar on Feb 27, 2010 7:20 PM PST up reply actions
This is so frustrating to watch
UW is getting away with murder right now. MBA was WAAAAAY over the back on that one.
This is exactly what I'm talking about
When I say refs come into Pullman timid and give the road team the benefit of the doubt. No, it’s not blatant, but we need FTs to win this game. 2 drawn fouls in 9 min won’t help
by Grady Clapp on Feb 27, 2010 7:25 PM PST via mobile reply actions
When WSU protested the CALL against Oregon
and the Pac 10 backed up the refs. I thought some refs would consciously and other refs unconsciously go against the Cougars all year.
I liked the part where he said
“the cougahs just need a basket”
www.nwfan.com
I personally think there should be a moratorium against railing against the announcers
I use my complaining against a game not being televised than having a game televised with a bad announcer. They all say stupid things. Get over it (and I mean this in a nice way).
When watching a game like this...
We have to have fun some how… And Lenny gives us plenty to work with.
"Anytime you don't get an opportunity at the basket, that's so costly"
High quality analysis, Lenny.
Obvious but true
How many times are we going to hand it back to them tonight?
"Anytime you don't get a shot at the basket and you turn it over, that's big"
“Coach Bown is really upset over that.”
I really hate you Lenny.
Right hand kind of jump hook looking thing?
Yup, that’s the entire arsenal.

easy to score from 4 feet away though
www.nwfan.com
That last shot was tough
He’s had some shots that are a little out of control. That will be to our benefit at some point.
I’m just incredibly worried about our offense. We look completely lost out there.
I think I see what Bone is trying to run.
But they don’t understand how to execute it yet.
Now, I’m one of the bigger Bone-bashers on here, butin his defence he’s trying to run a motion offence, and that’s a really hard thing for a young team to learn. I’m not a motion O guy AT ALL, but it’s a teaching offence and it takes a long time to learn to make reads and execute off the screens. And what you get when the screens don’t work is a whole lot of guys trying to force things off the dribble and shoot on one pass.
Hopefully all the returnees next year will have a much better idea how to execute. I guess.
by Coug Friendly Canuck on Feb 27, 2010 7:37 PM PST up reply actions
I can see the similarities...
… but I think Bone is trying to do some things that are more sophisticated.
At least I hope so, since the whole point of Mover/Blocker was to be easy to teach in a limited amount of practice time.
by Coug Friendly Canuck on Feb 27, 2010 7:45 PM PST up reply actions
"Early double digit lead for the Huskies ... they'll look to build on it when we return to Friel Court"
Or, the Cougars will look to cut into it, since they have the ball. I guess it depends on your perspective …
Technically, I should be rooting against you guys
since all I really want is for Cal to avoid Oregon State in the tournament, which means keeping the Beavers out of the 8-9 game, but in my heart, I’m pulling for the Cougs. Now if only my cable package was airing this game. Good luck!
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!
How long can Bone stick with Klay?
Haven’t we shown by now that we don’t need him taking 30 percent of the shots to win?
cougcenter poll
Who is a worse announcer to listen to: Ehlo or Wilkens? I say Wilkens because he is biased and dumb
HOW IN THE HELL CAN THAT HAPPEN?
Breakaway layup off a missed FT? That’s inexcusable. Completely inexcusable ever under any circumstances.
by Coug Friendly Canuck on Feb 27, 2010 7:38 PM PST reply actions
well we can
after 4 tries from right next to the hoop
www.nwfan.com
You guys are all going to hate me
But stop talking about the announcers. There is a game going on and HALF the posts are whining about Wilkens. If you don’t like, turn off the sound or something. Be thankful the game is on the tube for a change
we've played so well the last 10 mins
If only we could hit shots
by Grady Clapp on Feb 27, 2010 7:42 PM PST via mobile reply actions
We need to get under control on offense
Shots are a lot easier to make when you actually have your feet under you. It’s insane to me how much we’re killing the offensive glass and we’re not scoring points.
The uw is doing a lot of clutching and grabbing
Plus they are knocking WSU around on the dribble and it all is taking WSU out of their rhythm.
6-31
We are shooting worse than the women today and that’s pretty amazing. It’s hard to believe we are only down 11.
I sure hope Coach Bone gives Anthony Brown a shot next season. The kid was big in big games.
and we need a 6’5" 215 lb ball handler.
Harthun?
I just don’t know what he brings to games. This is a bad matchup for him as well, although that’s the case for everyone tonight.
I'm with you
Maybe it’s just my selective memory, but I don’t really remember him doing anything in any of the games i’ve seen.
Do you remember when he committed and everyone thought he was going to be very very good?
His career is not over, but he has to start showing something.
Central v. Western!
I’d be jacked up to see that.
Can’t wait for Simon Fraser to be back in their league next year.
by Coug Friendly Canuck on Feb 27, 2010 7:47 PM PST reply actions
Yet we are still down 16
We are playing somewhat better, but since they played like a pee-wee team during that half of course we look better now
by spokanecougar on Feb 27, 2010 7:49 PM PST up reply actions
wow
The dawgs are bringing it and the Cougs simply are not. Gotta get back on defense and someone – anyone- has to rotate to the top and defend the rebounder to take away the outlet pass- they turn and jog back and the dawgs run- transition hoops are killing the Cougs
If you can't Go Cougs... don't go.

What do you guys think?
Run a set play?
That’s just crazy talk. More one pass and chuck, please.
by Coug Friendly Canuck on Feb 27, 2010 7:51 PM PST up reply actions
Bone's had an entire season to set up plays for DeAngelo and still hasn't done it.
It won’t start happening tonight.
I don't know all of the advanced stats like others around here
but 22 out of 35 points in the paint can’t be good
www.nwfan.com
It's not going to change now.
Which is why I’m tempted to say this game is more or less over. We do not matchup well with Washington.
I was intrigued by a double high pick set.
Put it turned into pick and uhhhhhhh, instead of pick and roll or pick and pop or, uh, anything.
by Coug Friendly Canuck on Feb 27, 2010 8:00 PM PST up reply actions
For as bad as WSU shot, they are only down by 14
I am not sure how, but that is a mini miracle
.182 from the field bad?
We just set basketball back at least a decade in one half of play.
if we started hitting just some of those shots,
we’d be right in this game. I don’t think its over yet.

Klay has gone a game
and a half w/o a field goal. whoda thunk it?!!!
I predict a Coug victory. I have a weird feeling. Amaning was out of his A**— but has three fouls and will return to reality and play careful. Klay will make a three pointer this half- and Reggie will get it going.
so there it is- Cougs will win. I am calling it. I never do. Look it up.
If you can't Go Cougs... don't go.
For some reason,
I’m with you on this.

Check that. 102.3
Still, they’re not doing anything special. You can blame our 61.0 OE and 21.2 eFG.
If you want to be depressed, however, Washington has a 35 TO%. That won’t continue. Ours is 26. Good chance that does.
Other things that won't continue:
UW FG%: 64
WSU FG%: 18.2

kinda harsh

Overton owns all guards when the refs let him play physical
Look at that drive by Moore, Overton bumped him off his dribble with no call.
Just standing around
in sets. Moore pounds the ball, Thompson stands, Capers stands, just not going to work against an athletic team like UW.
I'm so glad they're cell phone-polling about the Cougs chances.
that’s not a waste of my time.
Almost as good as the call-in poll on Sports Radio in Vancouver this week.

but i’m looking forward to tomorrow
www.nwfan.com
That's how we stayed in the game against them in the first half last time
Maybe Bone was hoping if he saved it until the second half, they’d spend a half not figuring it out.
but we were down 16
can we shoot so poorly in our offense for an entire game?
The Overton impact
He’s going to get a lot of minutes and that can lead to a lot of careless play by UW
A little regression to the mean
hopefully this keeps up
Yours is bigger, but I came first
Don’t know if I should admit that
this game just became a lot more fun

What's this weird emotion?
Oh yeah, hope…
Also, amazing how much our defense picks up when we score a little
Sign of youth. Let’s hope they keep it up.
He has stuck with lineups for too long
Guys need a blow at some point
WSU still hasn't been able to take the lead
They need to get over that hump and then play add on.
I predicited in the first few minutes when they got down early they would come back
I can’t go back on that now
All announcers suck
Its Casto. Not CastRo. Get it freaking right! Oh and I personally don’t care if they call that other guy Poindexter

These refs are calling touch fouls on WSU
while UW is hammering WSU and getting away with it, horrible officiating yet again from the Pac-10. I hope Moos stands up better for us then Sterk did on these things
The more you complain the more the refs will have it in for you
There is not much that can be done

Go look at their efficiency numbers sometimes. They were one of the best in the country.
Bummer! They played hard, but not smart. DeAngelo was huge. Klay needs the season to end so the poor guy can get his confidence back. Reggie needs to dribble just a little bit more…NOT. Lastly, the Husky players are by and large all right, but Overton is a thug and Thomas is a punk. Did I mention that Thomas is a punk?
We've gotten away from running through Thompson quite a bit in the last month
