It's over. Thanks for a great career, Nik.

Player of the Game: Capers. 16 and 6.

Unsung Hero: Motum. 14 and 5.

Stat of the Game: something something free throws.

One last stomach punch, for the road.

This too shall pass...

Klay Thompson is my man crush

I'm going with this

37 (19). 37 rebounds, 19 of which were offensive rebounds.

9 (7). Casto’s rebounds
6 (5). Caper’s
5 (3). Nik and Motum’s.
On the other end:
4 (0) Klay’s rebounds
5 (0) Moore’s rebounds
2 (0) X’s rebounds.

So our bigs crashed the offensive glass while our guards got back. I, for one, am a fan of offensive rebounds.

by Brian Floyd on Mar 11, 2010 12:28 AM PST up reply actions

For clarification because it doesn't look right

Nik and Motum both had 5 rebounds, 3 of which were offensive.

A reason for hope

The last time we went 7-11 with a group of young players was 2004….

by Brian Floyd on Mar 11, 2010 12:32 AM PST reply actions

Wow, I don't remember my history either

2006 was what I was looking for. We ended the year losing 8 of 9. Including our last 6 straight and the first round game of the PX tourney to Oregon.

Disregard 2004, I’m an idiot

by Brian Floyd on Mar 11, 2010 12:34 AM PST up reply actions

Eerie similarities to 2006

Question is — can this team make as big a leap as that one did?

by Grady Clapp on Mar 11, 2010 7:24 AM PST up reply actions

Are you kidding me...

First of all, those two losses against Oregon (you know which ones I speak of) may be the biggest BS losses I’ve seen in my life. Second of all, I for one am sick of using the excuse that we are young. We need to take a monumental leap next season, and there are no excuses for blowing games like we have this season. I’m done saying, “It’s OK, we’re young”. Time for these boys to become men. Reggie, Klay, and Casto are a solid core. We have/are acquiring the pieces necessary to build a champion; especially in this weak of a conference. (Did anyone else notice over two-thirds of the Pac-10 first team are seniors?) I may be drunk, but I expect this group of talented boys to become a great group of men who ultimately go on to win the Pac-10 championship in 2012. Am I being facetious? Does anyone else think we have a championship future?

by dmbwsu on Mar 11, 2010 1:11 AM PST reply actions

Then don't use the excuse anymore

And no, you’re not alone in thinking this group has great potential over the next two years.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 11, 2010 6:33 AM PST up reply actions

One thing you must remember

is these guys ARE young. You may not want to “use it as an excuse”, but it sure is easy to criticize a 19 or 20 year old kid for not living up to your expectations. I think we’ll be much improved next year, but people tend to forget that these are kids first.

Also, hate to nitpick, but your use of the word facetious is incorrect. I think you meant to ask “Am I being naive?” for thinking we have a chance.

by playerkyle14 on Mar 11, 2010 7:15 AM PST up reply actions

The leap you're talking about taking

Actually isn’t that monumental, in my opinion.

by Brian Floyd on Mar 11, 2010 9:42 AM PST up reply actions

Agreed

These guys have shown more flashes of that potential than the 2006 guys ever did. Also, the relative level of competition should stay pretty low compared to what that 2007 crew was facing.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 11, 2010 10:32 AM PST up reply actions

Yeah, that 2006 team only looked good when Akognon went nuts.

I wasn’t able to see many games late in the year, but last night the halfcourt D looked much better yesterday. Even Reggie Moore looked better. Offensively, they were at least running some set stuff to get some movement off the ball. It even looked like they were trying to run a bit of sideline triangle stuff. Capers and Motum were very impressive too.

Really, aside from the horrible TO’s in the 1st half and the FT shooting, they played very well yesterday.

There’s room for lots of improvement now; hopefully there isn’t any attrition.

Nikola is a true Coug!

Looking forward to following his pro career!

Heard on the radio this morning

there were 900 people in attendance last night. someone email the pac10 office with that rotating the tourney between cities idea.

I also hate the semi-homecourt advantage 4 of the 10 teams get for the tourney. That’s just not right.

by rcm_rx7 on Mar 11, 2010 8:47 AM PST up reply actions

?

4 teams? Hardly. The bay-area is not LA, nor is Arizona. Only two of the teams are playing ‘at home’.

by cfred on Mar 11, 2010 4:45 PM PST up reply actions

After the game last night

my only consolation was that now the season is over. These kids can get in the weightroom and spend some time getting better.
Then I wake up this morning and the first thing I read on Cougfan is “CBI or CIT Baby!”
Please God, just let it end.

NO!

We will not rest until Nik get’s his two wins he deserves!

by Brian Floyd on Mar 11, 2010 11:21 AM PST up reply actions

I think nearly every guy on the roster

could stand to put on around 10 lbs of muscle. Specifically I’d like to see Bjorstad and Motum pack on the pounds. Those dudes are scrawny.

by cougfan45 on Mar 11, 2010 11:45 AM PST up reply actions

I dunno if I'd cal Bjornstad 'scrawny'.

On the other hand, when I watched Brock do that dunk at Midnight Madness where he took off his shirt, I thought we had signed Robbie Cowgill’s younger, more Australian brother.

by J.J. FeKl on Mar 11, 2010 12:01 PM PST up reply actions

Bjornstad could use some bulk

He came in at 6’10 215, which is pretty tiny.

Motum, like you said, looks like he needs to hit the meal room

by Brian Floyd on Mar 11, 2010 12:12 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah he's small

He actually looks much smaller in street clothes when I’ve seen him around campus.

by cougfan45 on Mar 11, 2010 9:42 PM PST up reply actions

I just wanted to add...

GOOD BYE Tajuan Porter! I cannot describe how happy I am knowing we never have to face him again. As much as the Cougs killed themselves with TOs and missed FTs Tajuan Porter is the only reason Oregon won those two close games against us. He always seems to hit some ridiculous shots against us. The deep 3 late in the game in Pullman was pretty crazy and last night he just took over the game in OT. No one could stop him. That baseline fade away over Capers great defensive effort was pretty ridiculous. So here’s to kicking the crap out of oregon next year because they don’t have a player of that quality coming back to drop 30 points on us repeatedly.
