OPEN PAC-10 TOURNAMENT THREAD: Session 1, Quarterfinals

I don't know about you, but there's actually something sort of freeing in knowing that this season is actually over now (unless the athletic department decides it wants to buy its way into the CBI, which I find highly unlikely seems to be a possibility -- h/t crimson and gray). I've been so wrapped up in the Cougs, that I haven't been able to fully appreciate the drama going on around the country. Now I can.

In case you all actually want to still talk basketball -- and I most definitely do, although I'm not sure how much I'll be able to chat -- here's a thread for the two afternoon games. We'll have another thread up this evening for what figures to be the two most important games of the day.

If I was to predict today's winners, I'd actually take the chalk. However, if I was looking for one team to lay a complete egg and screw itself in giving up an upset, I honestly would pick Washington. Yes, I know they've absolutely killed that 1-3-1 all year, but something tells me Craig Robinson will have a wrinkle up his sleeve, and these Huskies have been known to overlook an opponent or two this season.

Thursday, March 11 - Quarterfinals
#4 Arizona vs. #5 UCLA, Noon
#1 Cal vs. #8 Oregon, 2:30 p.m.
#2 Arizona State vs. #7 Stanford, 6 p.m.
#3 Washington vs. #6 Oregon State, 8:30 p.m.

Syracuse lost today to Georgetown

might hurt their chances for a 1 seed

UCLA starting out well

And I’d pick Cal as the team to be upset. Monty doesn’t care about the tourney knowing he’s in. Whether Oregon can capitalize is another story

CBI

I don’t actually know how much that’ll cost us. I know it costs a ton to buy a home game, but I don’t see us wanting one.

man I hope we don't do that

I guess the extra practice sessions wouldn’t hurt, just not a fan of these extra tourney’s

I'm not either

But hey, some more practice and playing time can’t hurt, right? And it gives us a chance to get Nik his record

Considering this is a home game for UCLA

This crowd sucks. Can we please move the tournament out of Staples?

by Brian Floyd on Mar 11, 2010 12:25 PM PST reply actions

Stolen from ATQ

Rotate it:
Seattle (Key Arena)
Portland (RG)
Oakland (Oracle)
LA (Staples)
Phoenix (US Airways)

Or, we just do the Vegas thing. The draw at Staples every year is pathetic and having it be an SC/UCLA home game is also pretty weak.

Did anybody capture that screenshot...

They just said that Matt Muehlbach played for Arizona from “1900 – 00”. That’s a lot of red shirts.

He has no excuse...

for not being the all-time leading scorer in the history of sports.

100 year career

He could be terrible and still break all the records. You just don’t see that kind of longevity these days

I wish

Guy is tough as nails. I like him

by Brian Floyd on Mar 11, 2010 1:58 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, he was a fascinating HS prospect

at the AAU stuff and while he was at Modesto, the scouts would never be there looking for him- then at the game’s end they would all have him on their charts. He progressed from Frosh to senior in what a buddy of mine who reps east coast schools as a ‘semi scout’ called a ‘wonderous growth trend’. He was only a 3 star but everyone sort of smelled his desire. When he started kicking ass this year that phrase popped into my head. N.C. and G’town offered him based on my buds recommendation…according to him… but I will add the caveat that this guys rarely claims he missed on anybody.

If you can't Go Cougs... don't go.

While we may be the weakest major conference this year...

No conference can match our all-Serb team. We could probably make the Final 4, just with our Serbs.

And Villanova goes down in the quarter-fnals also

the Big East tourney is always crazy.

gotta love this time of year.

Wow, didn't expect that

And back to back like that makes it even funnier
