OPEN PAC-10 TOURNAMENT THREAD: Session 2, Quarterfinals

Here's part two. Like I said earlier, OSU is my upset special. I'll probably end up looking stupid, but what else is new.

Thursday, March 11 - Quarterfinals
#2 Arizona State vs. #7 Stanford, 6 p.m.
#3 Washington vs. #6 Oregon State, 8:30 p.m.

I'm with you on OSU

I truly think they’re gonna beat the Dawgs. People argure UW is playing “great”, but they’ve played a bad WSU team, a bad Oregon team, a bad UCLA team, and a not so good Beav team. Granted, on the road. But Obama-bro will have some new wrinkles to the zone, and they knock off Uw.

And, ASU wins by 15+ over Furd

by KirklandCoug on Mar 11, 2010 6:03 PM PST reply actions

I've been way off so far

Stanford up 10. Plenty of time though.

by KirklandCoug on Mar 11, 2010 7:25 PM PST reply actions

Just got to watch this

60 – 46 Furd? ASU needed this game and only have 4:20 to make there way back into it.

Whoa!

Awesome

I knew this wouldn’t start on time

For the Pac-10 to get two bids

We have to root for the Huskies (ugh) and/or against Cal (probably the only other team in this conference that doesn’t disgust me). Lose/lose situation.

by Grady Clapp on Mar 11, 2010 8:55 PM PST reply actions

Normally

I’m all about rooting for the Pac-10 Conference, even when it means rooting for the Huskies or (shudder) Oregon.

But this time, I’m particularly bitter about everything so I say

Go Beavs

by ClosetCoug on Mar 11, 2010 8:57 PM PST up reply actions

Cal could still get knocked off

And then someone else would get the automatic bid. I would hate it if it were UCLA.

By the way, I think we can’t overlook how incredible it is that Arizona’s consecutive tourney streak is over. Sean Miller is probably already on the hot seat.

by Grady Clapp on Mar 11, 2010 8:59 PM PST up reply actions

Look, there he is again

Genius move putting him in the starting lineup

by Brian Floyd on Mar 11, 2010 9:03 PM PST up reply actions

Found a worse one

Eliott Bullock, sophomore from Stanford, at 53.0.

Small sample size yes, but they all qualify to be rated by kenpom

I think I just saw “shooter’s face”. Angus with the blowfish look

by Brian Floyd on Mar 11, 2010 9:01 PM PST reply actions

Westbrook is a baller

But I can’t help but think UCLA bias stung us on that vote.

by Grady Clapp on Mar 11, 2010 9:06 PM PST up reply actions

Look at the Pac-10 first team that year

Ryan Anderson
James Harden
Kevin Love
OJ Mayo
Robin Lopez

!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Grady Clapp on Mar 11, 2010 9:07 PM PST up reply actions

Ryan Anderson

What happened to that kid. One of these things is not like the other

by Brian Floyd on Mar 11, 2010 9:08 PM PST up reply actions

And WSU finished third in that conference

Incredible. The 2007-08 Cougars would probably have run away with this year’s conference title.

by Grady Clapp on Mar 11, 2010 9:13 PM PST up reply actions

Painful

Westbrook was good, but wasn’t he a sixth man at that time, too?

by Brian Floyd on Mar 11, 2010 9:08 PM PST up reply actions

That offensive set

Was called “dont let Omari Johnson touch the ball”

by Brian Floyd on Mar 11, 2010 9:11 PM PST reply actions

Absolutely

Lights out shooting right now. Fun stuff

Least annoying opposing fans in the Pac-10

1. OSU
2. Cal
3. ASU
4. Stanford
5. USC basketball/UCLA football
6. Arizona
7. Oregon
8. USC football/UCLA basketball
9. UW

by Grady Clapp on Mar 11, 2010 9:27 PM PST reply actions

Cal/OSU are pretty close actually

Unlike Cal, I worry OSU fans could start being insufferable if their teams start winning more.

by Grady Clapp on Mar 11, 2010 9:29 PM PST up reply actions

Cal are the best fans

I went to a football game there years ago, great fans (the ones that were there). Very polite, and seemingly knew there stuff. Uw worst, Oregon 8.

That's what I hear

Sadly I’ve never been to Berkeley. I’ll have to go for a road game someday.

Been to two game in Eugene

The game in 2003 were we beat them like 53-17 after they beat Michigan and were on SI. One of my favorite games ever. Went in ’07 when we got hammered, not fun. There fans are terrible, Rude, obnoxious, and so much more.

I was at both those games. sat in the UO student section in ’03, had people throwing sh** at me and my buddy for about 2 hours. BEST DAY EVER

The sheer stuck in the stadium was awesome.

Fans leaving in the middle of the third quarter, empty in the fourth. I scalped some tickets in one of the endzones, decent seats. But yeah stuff thrown at us all game.

Had some work to do before this game, glad to see Beavs are up 11. Is UW offense that bad right now, or is OSU’s D really good?

Regulars played like they didn't care for the first half

Portland scored in the last min of the first half. Then some of the subs came on in the second

by Brian Floyd on Mar 11, 2010 10:18 PM PST up reply actions

I missed the first half

For some reason, I got it in my head the game started at 7:30. I showed up at 7:05.

The game started at 6. I have never, in my life, done that before.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 11, 2010 10:21 PM PST up reply actions

Ouch, you really didn't miss much though

We had more chances and had the possession advantage, we screwed up once and they scored.

by Brian Floyd on Mar 11, 2010 10:22 PM PST up reply actions

It was entertaining, but sloppy

It worked out fine. We took our 3 year old who couldn’t wait to go to a soccer game. One half is about his limit.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 11, 2010 10:26 PM PST up reply actions

I almost showed up late for a Coug game once

Thought it was a usual 7pm start, showed up at 5 (gates open for student section). Game actually started at 5:30. Luckily my friends saved me a seat.

by Grady Clapp on Mar 11, 2010 10:23 PM PST up reply actions

Want to hear the worst?

It was a Saturday Mariners game, I thought it started at 7pm. I show up at 6, to find nobody there. It was a 1:00 game. Luckily, I didn’t purchase tickets beforehand, or I would have been really pissed.

by KirklandCoug on Mar 11, 2010 10:26 PM PST up reply actions

I can outdo that.

My Dad and I drove down to Seattle from Vancouver to see the Orioles play the year Ripken was going to set the record.

Uh, on an off day. Series didn’t start until the next day.

(Yes, we drove back down again the next day.)

Craig, Grady and I decided that we missed these. We’ll be making sure it stays this way. People can disagree, but the tone’s gotta be right.

Man, I feel like criticizing a coach.

What the hell is Robinson doing playing that Burton kid at a perimeter position? That makes no sense to me.

by Coug Friendly Canuck on Mar 11, 2010 10:44 PM PST reply actions

It's the offense

But Burton is not a point center like the Shaft

by Brian Floyd on Mar 11, 2010 10:45 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, that's what I mean.

What’s the point of even having him on the floor if he’s not playing the 5? I can see having him in there and running the low post options out of the Princeton stuff with him at the 5, buy playing him at the 4 is pointless; that’s basically a perimeter position.

by Coug Friendly Canuck on Mar 11, 2010 10:52 PM PST up reply actions

UW is just an awful matchup for OSU

OSU cannot handle good offensive rebounding… partly why they got run off the floor by the Huskies twice last year

So, if UW loses tomorrow to Stanford are the still in?

I don’t see that happening though, Stanford is a bad matchup for UW. The Huskies got lucky with their bracket.

by KirklandCoug on Mar 11, 2010 10:53 PM PST reply actions

I don't know

That kind of bad loss may burn them. I think they need to win one more to be sure

by Brian Floyd on Mar 11, 2010 10:54 PM PST up reply actions

uw will get in

the media loves uw

www.nwfan.com

by coug2828 on Mar 11, 2010 10:55 PM PST up reply actions

Depends on how some of the other bubble teams do.

Let’s say UW loses, and UCLA or Stanford beat Cal and win the Pac-10 title. In that scenario, I don’t think the Huskies get in. But if Cal wins it, I think they can get in with a loss tomorrow and the rest of the confrence tourneys don’t have any big upsets.

by KirklandCoug on Mar 11, 2010 10:59 PM PST up reply actions

It's a moving target

ASU losing helps them. A lot. As does any other losses by bubble teams, and conference tournament wins by midmajors likely to get at large bids.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 11, 2010 10:58 PM PST up reply actions

uw will get in

UW is through to the finals

They’ve already shredded Stanford’s D twice. No reason to think they can’t make it 3.
