OPEN PAC-10 TOURNAMENT THREAD: Semifinals

On tap:

6:18 - UCLA vs. California
8:40 - Stanford vs. Washington

Washington should be able to seal up an at-large tournament bid with a win, regardless of what happens in the finals. Stanford hasn't come close to topping the Huskies this year, but stranger things have happened. I like the Huskies, as two of their nine best offensive games this season have come against the tree.

My upset special is UCLA over Cal, which would be simultaneously good and bad. Good in that the Pac-10 would be guaranteed two teams in the Big Dance. Bad because it's UCLA slowly returning to respectability.

Who will take control?

Just saw the score...

Cals losing? The hecks going on?

UCLA's shooting lights out

It could actually continue. They do this from time to time.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 12, 2010 7:31 PM PST up reply actions

Just saw the stats

Looks like the only one not shooting lights out is Dragovich.

Why does he always do it to us, then!

by Brian Floyd on Mar 12, 2010 7:40 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

Look at that

Cals on a little run it appears

by Brian Floyd on Mar 12, 2010 7:47 PM PST via mobile reply actions

I thoroughly enjoy watching Randle.

When he’s not playing us.

I know I'm about to break my own rule, but ...

Masoli suspended for the year? That’s just the opening we need!

Really, who could blame you.

I’m in the same boat. Except, I hate the NBA so the Sonics championship does nothing to alleviate the pain.

I find myself torn

Do I root for Stanford to win and hope that keeps the Huskies out of the dance, or do I save myself from being disappointed and just hope for them to get knocked out in the first round? I wish I could be one of those guys that roots for the Huskies when they weren’t playing the Cougs but I can’t. I feel dirty anytime that happens which is only when they’re playing an east coast school.

Overton and IT already annoying me

With that little manlove huddle there.

BEACH GIRL5

Beach Girl 1-4 went to the ACC tourney

by Grady Clapp on Mar 12, 2010 9:38 PM PST reply actions

This is not the way I wanted to get 2 bids

Don’t suppose Stanford has another run in them, eh?

by Grady Clapp on Mar 12, 2010 10:19 PM PST reply actions

It sure doesn't look like it

Have they even had a good run?

Plus the husky love from the commentators is insufferable.

Mute

I took me only a few minutes before I made the switch

by ClosetCoug on Mar 12, 2010 10:27 PM PST up reply actions

I was just about to say something like that

First flop I’ve ever seen on a rebound… followed by a no-call on Mann getting fouled.

Stanford needs to keep their cool though…

by Grady Clapp on Mar 12, 2010 10:33 PM PST up reply actions

You guys and the reffing again.

… the numbers never back up your claims of biased officiating. Stanford committed a whopping two more fouls and shot 3 fewer total free throws than UW. Each team had one person amass four fouls and nobody from either team fouled out. Sure, the fouls don’t get called in a nice symmetric pattern, but everything evened out.

I would also point out that Stanford got into the penalty with more than 11 mins to go in the same second half that UW scored 51 points in (UW would not get into the penalty for several more minutes). Officiating had no impact on this game.

Damn, my eyeball tastes good.

Someone on the CF.C forums said Casto can't palm a ball

Is this true? I’ve never really thought about it. He’s does lay it in and two-hand slam it a lot.

by Grady Clapp on Mar 12, 2010 10:40 PM PST reply actions

I had seen that

I dismissed it as BS, but I really don’t know. You’d think he would be able to, given his size. Sounded like the Alex Smith has small hands argument in football.

by Brian Floyd on Mar 12, 2010 11:11 PM PST up reply actions

Boy these refs aren't leaving any doubt

And – surprise! – the Pac-10 bubble team is getting all the calls.

They must’ve got the memo from the Pac-10 office.

by Grady Clapp on Mar 12, 2010 10:41 PM PST reply actions

rather than watch the pac10 tournament

i’m watching wsu/notre dame from the 08 tournament.

i kinda wish this game was being played now, just so i could freak out about how many times the announcers bring up derrick low committing to the cougs without ever seeing the campus.

it’s the rochestie scholarship story to the tenth power.
