Selection Sunday Open Thread

If you feel like talking about the selection of the NCAA Tournament, here's your spot. Some relevant links for discussion until the bracket is unveiled in about 15 minutes:

Am I the only one who won't be completely shocked if the committee puts ASU in? I know it's far fetched ... but ... what if Cal turns up as a 5 or 6 seed? Were the Sun Devils that much worse?

Also, we're going to have a CougCenter bracket challenge again. I haven't set it up yet. Vote in the poll below to pick the service you like best, and we'll go with that one.

Duke as No. 3 overall seed

They’re ranked No. 1 by Pomeroy, as is the ACC. Wonder if there’s any connection there.

By the way

Anyone hear Bilas try to say Cal doesn’t deserve to be in? That’s just insane by any standard.

by Grady Clapp on Mar 14, 2010 3:13 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

agreed.

classic east coast bias. Never really watches the games and then forms opinions off of box scores.

Damn, my eyeball tastes good.

Seth Davis agrees with him

Prime example of networks stupidly asking their talking heads to opine on things they really know nothing about.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 14, 2010 3:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh, and by the way

They’ll have a road game if they get to the second round. This does not make me sad.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 14, 2010 3:19 PM PDT up reply actions

I also like Minnesota over Xavier

And K-State to have a really good shot to get to the FF. I don’t want to reveal my whole bracket just yet.

Still no UW and Cal?

Interesting.

And I can’t believe nobody has told me how stupid I am for the Arizona State comment above. I kind of threw it out there to see if anyone actually reads the thread text, or if they just click to the comments …

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 14, 2010 3:23 PM PDT reply actions

I thought ASU had a shot also

But, it would have been going out on a limb. Getting a bit nervous for CAL though

by KirklandCoug on Mar 14, 2010 3:24 PM PDT up reply actions

No kidding

If someone can’t see that Cal is that good, people should be fired. I understand numbers matter, but Cal clearly passes the eye test. CLEARLY.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 14, 2010 3:31 PM PDT up reply actions

Why?

I’m a homer and all, but we matchup great against them.

We play tough perimeter D and we’ll have maybe our first size advantage all year.

by B Money on Mar 14, 2010 6:46 PM PDT up reply actions

Me too.

They beat Oregon in the first round the year before we creamed them.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 14, 2010 3:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Everyone being Seth Davis

Which many people listen to because he clearly knows what he’s talking about.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 14, 2010 3:48 PM PDT up reply actions

That was the best thing.

Almost everyone in most of my pools had Winthrop. They were the popular upset pick. Both Seth Davis and Digger Phelps called it adamantly.

And then we know how it turned out.

I like how ESPN's announcer

Ended the Illinois/Wisconsin game with “And Illinois is in!”

by Grady Clapp on Mar 14, 2010 3:41 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions

I honestly thought they would be in

Not Va Tech, but I thought the Illini would be in.

by KirklandCoug on Mar 14, 2010 3:42 PM PDT up reply actions

Even this year...

19-14 should never get you in the tourney. Unless it’s out of the best conference.

by B Money on Mar 14, 2010 6:49 PM PDT up reply actions

Anyone tempted to pick Sienna?

I don’t think I’m going to in the end, because I don’t think they beat anyone as good as Purdue — even without Hummel — all year, but I’m tempted.

by philkid3 on Mar 14, 2010 3:58 PM PDT reply actions

no,

but I might pick Siena.

Damn, my eyeball tastes good.

by Gekko Mojo on Mar 14, 2010 4:32 PM PDT up reply actions

BYU

They’re 5th in the Pomeroys. They’d play Florida and KSU/NTU in the first two rounds.

Then, they get to play IN SALT LAKE CITY. Their biggest issue would be a possibly hobbled Syracuse. IN SALT LAKE CITY.

Come to mention it

I looked at UW and Marquette on Pomeroy’s site. They are nearly dead even. The game is a coin flip and Marquette is one spot higher in the rankings.

I've got

San Diego State and Washington winning.
