Selection Sunday Open Thread
If you feel like talking about the selection of the NCAA Tournament, here's your spot. Some relevant links for discussion until the bracket is unveiled in about 15 minutes:
Am I the only one who won't be completely shocked if the committee puts ASU in? I know it's far fetched ... but ... what if Cal turns up as a 5 or 6 seed? Were the Sun Devils that much worse?
Also, we're going to have a CougCenter bracket challenge again. I haven't set it up yet. Vote in the poll below to pick the service you like best, and we'll go with that one.

By the way, we're going to do a CougCenter bracket challenge again
I just have to get around to setting it up.
Prediction
Zags don’t get Spokane
by Grady Clapp on Mar 14, 2010 2:58 PM PDT via mobile reply actions
There's talk UW might get Spokane
I hope not.

i think it would've been hilarious if uw got spokane
with the amount of cougs and zags that bought tickets for spokane, they would’ve been booed out of the building.
Duke as No. 3 overall seed
They’re ranked No. 1 by Pomeroy, as is the ACC. Wonder if there’s any connection there.
Syracuse should have been the #3 overall seed
And Duke the first #2

I hate Ken Bone our team quits wah wah wah
Oh, sorry. Thought I was on the Cougan forums

Typing fail. Apologies for the threadjack

By the way
Anyone hear Bilas try to say Cal doesn’t deserve to be in? That’s just insane by any standard.
by Grady Clapp on Mar 14, 2010 3:13 PM PDT via mobile reply actions
agreed.
classic east coast bias. Never really watches the games and then forms opinions off of box scores.
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
Seth Davis agrees with him
Prime example of networks stupidly asking their talking heads to opine on things they really know nothing about.
Tought Midwest bracket
I would have picked Ohio State to the Final Four over any of the #1 seeds.. Except Kansas.
First blush, the only big upset I see there is GT.
San Diego State could be Tennessee relatively easily, too, I guess.
Seems likely to be a chalky bracket.
Oh, and by the way
They’ll have a road game if they get to the second round. This does not make me sad.
I also like Minnesota over Xavier
And K-State to have a really good shot to get to the FF. I don’t want to reveal my whole bracket just yet.
Still no UW and Cal?
Interesting.
And I can’t believe nobody has told me how stupid I am for the Arizona State comment above. I kind of threw it out there to see if anyone actually reads the thread text, or if they just click to the comments …
I thought ASU had a shot also
But, it would have been going out on a limb. Getting a bit nervous for CAL though

Syracuse looks like they'll have to just complete wet the bed to miss the Elite 8.
No offense to Florida State.
No kidding
If someone can’t see that Cal is that good, people should be fired. I understand numbers matter, but Cal clearly passes the eye test. CLEARLY.
I'll be pissed if Cal doesn't get in.
They deserve a 6 or 7.

Why?
I’m a homer and all, but we matchup great against them.
We play tough perimeter D and we’ll have maybe our first size advantage all year.
Everyone being Seth Davis
Which many people listen to because he clearly knows what he’s talking about.
That was the best thing.
Almost everyone in most of my pools had Winthrop. They were the popular upset pick. Both Seth Davis and Digger Phelps called it adamantly.
And then we know how it turned out.
I'm tempted to pick Cal to the Sweet 16

Duke is the worst #1 in my opinion though
I dunno, I have a gut feeling about Cal though.
by KirklandCoug on Mar 14, 2010 3:37 PM PDT up reply actions
Duke will be a tough matchup for them
If they can get by Louisville. That game should be incredibly entertaining.
Not for me.
I see them losing before the Final Four. I might pick them to lose on the Sweet 16, also.

Luke Harangody is amazing
He single-handedly beat the Cougars … oh, wait …
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
Watched that game in Vegas
Awesome game.
by KirklandCoug on Mar 14, 2010 3:41 PM PDT up reply actions
i watched it friday night.
maybe we should set up a dvd tree.
Did anyone else hear Mike Golic talking crap before that game?
And how unstoppable Harangody was? That was amazing.
He said NOTHING about it the next day save for acknowledging WSU once.
I like how ESPN's announcer
Ended the Illinois/Wisconsin game with “And Illinois is in!”
by Grady Clapp on Mar 14, 2010 3:41 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions
I honestly thought they would be in
Not Va Tech, but I thought the Illini would be in.

Even this year...
19-14 should never get you in the tourney. Unless it’s out of the best conference.
how does uw as an 11 not have to leave the west coast?
if i’m marquette, i’m pissed.
Anyone tempted to pick Sienna?
I don’t think I’m going to in the end, because I don’t think they beat anyone as good as Purdue — even without Hummel — all year, but I’m tempted.
I play an ESPN group with some close friends and family where everyone can do 10 brackets.
That one is really fun because of getting to try a bunch of different processes against each other. Sienna will probably be picked in close to half of mine.
If you watched bball this year ...
… then you would agree that your question wasn’t really a question.
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
Does anybody know if Syracuse's center will be back?
If he is, I like the Cuse for the title.
BYU
They’re 5th in the Pomeroys. They’d play Florida and KSU/NTU in the first two rounds.
Then, they get to play IN SALT LAKE CITY. Their biggest issue would be a possibly hobbled Syracuse. IN SALT LAKE CITY.
That's a very favorable draw for them wow
They very well could play there way to the FF.

Come to mention it
I looked at UW and Marquette on Pomeroy’s site. They are nearly dead even. The game is a coin flip and Marquette is one spot higher in the rankings.
I like San Diego State and St. Mary's vs. their opponents in an even situation.
I don’t like them when they have to travel to the east coast.
I was too lazy too look up the bracket
Figured I’d look at UW-Marquette for fun. Start times could make a difference, but then again these guys should be traveling out a fair amount ahead of time.
I'm fairly certain the record for west-coast teams playin early games is abyssmal.
Like, really, really bad. And for good reason.
UW is playing in San Jose, though.
Anyone else like Murray State over Vandy?
