Good news

looks like Simmons will be doing a live chat for day 1 of The Masters!! could be epic

Check this out
“I am really excited to join the best team in college football broadcasting,” Bellotti said in a statement Friday. “Working as an analyst for ESPN is a dream come true and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I will bring the insight, experience and expertise I have gathered from 36 years of coaching college football to the studio and telecast booth. Spring ball is in full swing, I can’t wait to start.”

Some might consider being the AD of an incredibly successful and well-funded athletic program a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 19, 2010 2:46 PM PDT reply actions

I wonder which one pays better

I know what he was making as head coach and as AD, but don’t know what he’s going to get at ESPN. Besides, we all knew he wasn’t going to be able to stay out of the game that long.

by Brian Floyd on Mar 19, 2010 2:48 PM PDT up reply actions

being the AD

doesn’t come with a ton of tv face time though

by coug2828 on Mar 19, 2010 2:48 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't know if I agree with that

Remember when he was in the booth for the WSU/Oregon game? (Don’t know if you were watching.)

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 19, 2010 2:49 PM PDT up reply actions

wasn't that game on some ridiculous oregon sports network or something?

there’s a good chance only you and I were watching that garbage

by coug2828 on Mar 19, 2010 2:59 PM PDT up reply actions

Yes, it was

But still … the AD providing commentary on the team he used to coach? It was so weird.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 19, 2010 4:52 PM PDT up reply actions

By the way

It came from this story: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5009981

I can/can’t believe that the main emphasis of the story is on him joining ESPN, not on the reasons why he’s leaving Oregon. Brutal journalism.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 19, 2010 2:48 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh man

That goes from “he’s going to ESPN” to “we’re glad to have him” to “here’s the Duck’s recent arrests”

by Brian Floyd on Mar 19, 2010 2:49 PM PDT up reply actions

and don't forget

to tune in to the coverage of Auburn’s spring game on 4/17

Tim Brando

Apparently, resetting the shot clock is known as “recycling” it, according to Brando.

Good grief.

they probably will use it again

After 2010

The NCAA doesn’t have Spokane hosting 1st/2nd round games in the near future.

The Arena might need to add more seats to please the NCAA (again).

Just ran down the concourse

Bought an $8 beer in the airport, just to realize the games are not on. Here is to a few more waiting for tipoff.

by bucherbp on Mar 19, 2010 3:57 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

I had the same problem

Except instead of $8 it was free and instead of concourse it was 10 feet

by Brian Floyd on Mar 19, 2010 4:00 PM PDT up reply actions

Why does the NCAA hate local fans?

About 2,000 miles for the Zags; 1,000 for Florida State

by Grady Clapp on Mar 19, 2010 4:26 PM PDT reply actions

FSU is the USC of the ACC

May not have enough offense to pull this off

by Grady Clapp on Mar 19, 2010 4:36 PM PDT reply actions

Wow, bad call

I don’t think you can overturn the call on the floor with that angle

by Grady Clapp on Mar 19, 2010 4:46 PM PDT reply actions

Zags are doing great pushing the tempo

One way to beat a good D is just stop them from getting set.

by Grady Clapp on Mar 19, 2010 4:59 PM PDT reply actions

Gosh.

I seriously have to listen to Gus AND Len Elmore? Gus screams about everything, Elmore has quite possibly the oddest enunciations in the history of broadcasting. This is shaping up to be the most irritating broadcast ever.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 19, 2010 5:01 PM PDT reply actions

I can appreciate why people like him

He’s just not my style. I prefer witty and understated.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 19, 2010 5:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Sims is solid

And I wasn’t even a big Rizzs hater. I really like his voice.

by Grady Clapp on Mar 19, 2010 5:08 PM PDT up reply actions

I love Sims

And not just for his hats. He’s fun to listen to, as well

by Brian Floyd on Mar 19, 2010 5:22 PM PDT up reply actions

Also, he might be better than Niehaus.

More annoying voice, but less frequent inaccuracies and better pronunciations.

by philkid3 on Mar 19, 2010 5:25 PM PDT up reply actions

Nobody is better then Niehaus

I don’t care if he’s losing it, I grew up on Neihaus. He’ll still be my favorite

by Brian Floyd on Mar 19, 2010 5:26 PM PDT up reply actions

You and Nuss, too, huh?

I prefer an announcer who isn’t wrong every other sentence and doesn’t make up what players are good or bad on a whim.

by philkid3 on Mar 19, 2010 5:27 PM PDT up reply actions

Good thing you're not an M's fan

He’ll be my hero until the day he croaks. It’ll probably be in the booth. I just don’t care. Besides, don’t you already know enough about the players? I listen for the stories. He’s FANTASTIC at those. And that voice …

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 19, 2010 5:36 PM PDT up reply actions

It would probably be better if I was an Ms fan.

I live in the Ms market, so unless I want to pay for my baseball games (and often even then), it’s what I’m cruely subjected to.

I probably know enough about the players, but that doesn’t excuse inaccuracy. I know how to spell the names of the players on UCLA, but if you don’t, you’re bad at your job and lazy. (You’re not.)

by philkid3 on Mar 19, 2010 5:37 PM PDT up reply actions

Even as a fan of a Mariners rival. . .

. . . clips from the ’95 season give me goosebumps.

I can find myself pulling for the Mariners late in the year if the Rangers are done and no Mariners fan has pissed me off that season.

I also really like Nantz. LOVE Enberg. I know he’s lost a step, but he’s still great.

(DUCKS)

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 19, 2010 5:07 PM PDT up reply actions

Why couldn't Elias Harris find out about WSU?

He’d make us a tournament team. Probably better, since people would have to lay off Casto/Klay

by Grady Clapp on Mar 19, 2010 5:03 PM PDT reply actions

If Ken Bone was any kind of coach

He would have figured out a way for Harris to get out of his LOI to Gonzaga.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 19, 2010 5:04 PM PDT up reply actions

I like Bjorn

Get him in the weight room, teach him some defense, he could be a big surprise next year.

by Grady Clapp on Mar 19, 2010 5:06 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree with this

If he puts on some weight he could actually make an impact.

by Brian Floyd on Mar 19, 2010 5:07 PM PDT up reply actions

Will Foster

What is… a player who only gets a D-1 basketball scholarship because he’s 7’4"?

by Grady Clapp on Mar 19, 2010 5:36 PM PDT reply actions

Zags are getting sloppy

Odd for a team that only has a TO rate of 18.7

Ugh

I don’t want the Seahawks to be awful. Positive affirmations.

The NFC West is garbage…

The NFC West is garbage…

by Grady Clapp on Mar 19, 2010 6:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Too late, I fear

Pete Carroll is convinced he can run the Seahawks like USC. And people wonder why college coaches never succeed.

I love how that Zag 3pt defense makes average players look great

Excuse me

How in the heck did NMSU get within 3 of Michigan state?

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 19, 2010 6:15 PM PDT reply actions

I think this one actually could be good

But I’m not getting my hopes up. It’s still a 1/16. And I dream of a 1/16 upset, but don’t know if I’ll ever see it.

by 02Coug on Mar 19, 2010 6:26 PM PDT up reply actions

But will I see it?

Or will it be when I haven’t set aside the night to watch basketball, drink beer, and chat on the internet.

As a side note, let’s not let that description of my life get out to the public.

by 02Coug on Mar 19, 2010 6:30 PM PDT up reply actions

It bugs me to no end...

That this borderline good Husky team gets as easy a path to the Sweet 16 as anyone…

by Grady Clapp on Mar 19, 2010 6:28 PM PDT reply actions

Ok, there's more...

But it looks like no one wanted to sit front row.

by Grady Clapp on Mar 19, 2010 6:42 PM PDT up reply actions

Yes, but if we're going to complain

About the call at the end of the UO game, we have to complain about this call. Refs shouldn’t go outside of the normal range of calls suddenly at the end of the game. And it wasn’t so blatant a violation that it needed to be called.

by 02Coug on Mar 19, 2010 7:04 PM PDT up reply actions

It's really unfortunate because that becomes the story

Even though if it isn’t called, NMST has 18 seconds and is down 2. So there is a good chance MSU wins regardless. But now the lane violation becomes the story.

by 02Coug on Mar 19, 2010 7:06 PM PDT up reply actions

True.

But I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a guy do that and it not be called. Not in college, anyway.
