UNI up 12 over Kansas..

This could really happen. And almost all Americans will procede to burn there brackets.

That's what I would hope for

But I’m losing sweet 16 teams left and right

Freaking five minute commercial breaks.

Have to go back to work soon.

KANSAS GAME PLEASE.

I don’t want to watch UW right now~!

by Valiance on Mar 20, 2010 4:44 PM PDT reply actions

This is why the tournament needs to be on ESPN...

CBS is killing this right now.

EPSN is just as inept.

With 20% of the screen perpetually displaying game scores the Women’s NCAA is painful to see. The ball disappears constantly as do athletes because the damn scoring overlay.

Ali has balls of brass.

Anyone else think that wasn’t a charge, by the way?

I thought he was too far under the basket.

KLaw Tweet
If baseball was broadcast like college basketball, we’d go to commercial with two strikes on the final hitter in the bottom of the 9th.

If the live stats are right

That’s the third highest offensive efficiency allowed by Kansas this year. I didn’t see it, so I’m not sure how it happened, but Northern Iowa does not fit the profile of a team that should be able to do that to Kansas.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 20, 2010 4:57 PM PDT reply actions

Also, best passing I've seen this tournament.

Easily. I remarked to my girlfriend early that all their passes looked weird, unlike other teams, but that ended up working. Some of those thread-the-needle and behind-the-back assists will be in One Shining Moment, I promise you.

by philkid3 on Mar 20, 2010 5:00 PM PDT up reply actions

From what I gathered

They were firing from deep and shooting over the top of KUs zone

by Brian Floyd on Mar 20, 2010 5:00 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions

By the way

@InsideTheBCS says it’s a good thing we don’t have a playoff in college football, because goodness knows we wouldn’t want this.

(Actually, in a weird way, this sort of thing is precisely why there won’t be a playoff anytime soon. Can’t have your best teams not in your marquee events.)

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 20, 2010 5:00 PM PDT reply actions

I don't want this happening too often in basketball, either.

I still want marquee teams playing high-quality games in the Final Four, but 25-50% epic upsets early is awesome. As long as those teams are put back in their place eventually.

by philkid3 on Mar 20, 2010 5:02 PM PDT up reply actions

Well

My bracket is totally Farokhmaneshed

by StraightOuttaPullman on Mar 20, 2010 5:13 PM PDT reply actions

In about half my pools, I have KSU in the Elite 8.

In the other half, I have BYU in the Final Four.

This one will be, um, important.

by philkid3 on Mar 20, 2010 5:21 PM PDT reply actions

They have the shooters

Byu going way small. Use it ksu

by Brian Floyd on Mar 20, 2010 5:54 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions

When I left earlier my bracket was just fine

Now I owe apologies to Duke, who was my original champion and current favorite

by Grady Clapp on Mar 20, 2010 6:03 PM PDT reply actions

ha! mine too

i did all my research and everything pointed to Duke. And i said “no effing way am I rooting for Duke for 3 weeks”….

look where that got me….Rock Chalk!

How not to come back:

Heave up threes from three feet out over double coverage without even the chance to set your feet while in transition.

by philkid3 on Mar 20, 2010 7:02 PM PDT reply actions

What a dumb foul there.

Don’t bail that guy out. But I’ll take it.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 20, 2010 7:13 PM PDT reply actions

BYU looks horrific.

The lead is not so horrible you have to take every shot, you can wait for an open look.

by philkid3 on Mar 20, 2010 7:14 PM PDT reply actions

BYU overplays every passing lane.

Seems like every time the ball goes in, someone bites the wrong way on a fake and then you’ve got someone wide open under the rim.

by philkid3 on Mar 20, 2010 7:22 PM PDT reply actions

I heard an interview with John Salley the other day

He said he liked the NBA better than college because the NBA is all about the players, and the college game is all about coaches and referees. I hate to admit it, but it’s pretty much true.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 20, 2010 7:32 PM PDT up reply actions

I'll say I may agree with that.

But, I’d prefer it to be about the coaches, so that part’s not really a negative for me.

Just looked at the standings for Cougcenter

Not a good day for me. My wife is now in 10th. I’m in 30th. She is officially banned from entering next year.

by 02Coug on Mar 20, 2010 7:36 PM PDT reply actions

i have a new nemesis: his name is krebs

i had the under on the kentucky game at 149.5. Some scrub off UK’s bench drained a meaningless three at the buzzer to put the game at 150

by BigWood on Mar 20, 2010 7:38 PM PDT reply actions

probably a good thing

i use $100 a year to make games more interesting…..i’m up a ton over these three days though, so I’ll see you in Vegas. Your wife will understand when you buy her a new car.

by BigWood on Mar 20, 2010 7:41 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh, the old "guard play" canard

Do they not realize this game was more or less won with defense (1.05 ppp) and offensive rebounding (42 percent)?

Announcers are dumb.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 20, 2010 7:45 PM PDT reply actions

If your job is to talk about stuff

Shouldn’t it be a basic requirement to do some research and learn how to pronounce names — especially if it’s a team from your hometown?*

* Dave Niehaus does not apply.

I’d already clicked reply before I read your footnote.

Why Didn't Bone recruit Farokhmanesh?

I demand answers. Hot tub time machine technology clearly exists and should be used to backwards-recruit.

by Grady Clapp on Mar 20, 2010 8:21 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

Ali

Yeah, we gotta root for Farokhmanesh. He was born in Pullman. Forget your bracket. It’s about Coug family.

by PDXCoug on Mar 20, 2010 8:25 PM PDT reply actions

Agreed.

Great story. I think he started at Pullman High, but graduated from an Iowa high school, then floated around in the JC ranks until making it to UNI.

He worked hard to make it in D-1 basketball. Glad to see he got his moment.
