Around SBN: SB Nation interviews Jerome Bettis

Totally miscellaneous blog note that you might or might not care about

This is a preemptive strike before anyone asks. I'm going to be doing some work on writing about the Pac-10 Tournament for the main SBNation.com site next week, and in order to do that, my account name has to be my real name. That's the reason for the change.

However, I know I'll still be Nuss to all of you. Which warms my heart. (Or something.)

Where are your thoughts on tonight's game?

I’m going to Corvallis with a friend to root on the Cougs and I’d love some of your insightful analysis so I can sound knowledgeable.

I've been trying so hard to carve out some time to write about it

I just haven’t been able to. We did break it down quite a bit on the podcast, if you get a chance to listen to that.

Basically, the Cougs shredded their 1-3-1 last time, and they stopped using it about midway through the first half and went exclusively to a 2-3 or 3-2. The reason they scrapped it is because Reggie Moore was great at attacking the gaps and we hit some outside shots. Will that happen again? Tough to say. Reggie and Klay are both not playing as well as they were at the beginning of January.

Defensively, the Cougs went almost exclusively 2-3 zone and let the Beavers shoot themselves into oblivion. They’re a terrible shooting team. Only five times in 16 Pac-10 games have they put together an above average shooting performance, so I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Cougs roll with the zone again.

Be ready for an ugly game, as well

OS tends to play ugly. By that I mean confusing but hard nosed defense and inconsistent offense.

Grippi said were prepping for a 1 3 1 off of dead balls and makes, with the 2 3 and 3 2 being the base defense otherwise. Either way, we may end up shooting ourself into or out of the game if we settle for threes

One thing I forgot

Another reason well probably be in zone is how OS runs their offense. Their bigs sit on the perimeter with Deane and Shaftenaar being more perimeter than post guys. This keeps Dee out of the key and opens lanes if we go man and takes away our shot blockers

Jeff Nusser still looks wierd.

Not in that sense.
