SBNation BlogPoll: Week One
The BlogPoll has moved to SBNation this year and we're taking part. Below is my preseason rankings. I honestly don't know a ton about the teams and we'll just go ahead and consider this fluid until they play. Tell me how far off base I am in the comments. Ready.....set.......hate!

Arkansas State?
I need some of what you are smoking.
I could've gone two directions here
Either I Spurrier’d it because preseason polls are terrible, or I just wanted to get your attention.
Arkansas
Arkansas is this years Ole Miss. Heavily hyped but they had the worst defense in the SEC last year and didn’t do anything to improve it. I would be very surprised if they ended up in the Top 25 at the end of the year. The SEC West is the toughest division in football from top to bottom (ACC Coastal is stronger 1-4). Arkansas will have to score 40+ to win most of their games this year (which they are capable of doing but Ryan Mallet can’t disappear in 4th quarters of close games- like he did against Georgia last year)
Can't disagree
It’s the first week and I’m seriously throwing darts right now. I hate preseason polls. Until I see something on the field, I’m just winging it.
Remember when Ole Miss' quarterback was supposed to be the next big thing?
Whatever happened to him?
Jevan Sneed
Went pro early after a terrible year, signed as undrafted free agent by Tampa, was cut and is now a free agent.
I couldn't even remember his name.
I remember they had like the first game of that season against one of the ACC schools (Clemson? S. Carolina?) and I watched it thinking “THIS is that guy who’s supposed to be so great?”
USC?
Why are you guys putting USC on the ballot? I thought they were ineligible for everything except more NCAA violations under Lane Kiffin this year.
I just sent an email asking for clarification.
I don’t know whether or not they’re eligible but everyone’s been putting them on.
Last time I checked
They’re still playing college football, which makes them eligible to be one of the best 25 teams playing.

Which leads to an interesting (I think) question
If they are eligible for the top 25, how will the computer rankings and, ultimately, the BCS be skewed?
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
I believe they do figure into the computer rankings
They’re just not allowed in the human polls or BCS rankings.
For the computer rankings
If USC is in the top 25 (and well, that’s a pretty safe bet), then everyone ranked below USC but still in the top 26 will be treated as 1 spot higher for purposes of calculating the BCS rankings.
They can’t get votes in the coaches’ poll or the Harris poll.
I figured it was the case and voted as such.
I’m just curious if we get a split of people that vote them and don’t vote them.

Just out of curiosity
How did you come to this conclusion? Did you have existing polls in front of you? Did you read SI? I know you said that you don’t know much about the teams, so I am actually, very seriously interested in knowing what your methodology was … holy crap, I guess I am ready to start teaching again having just used the word methodology.
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
I honestly don't know enough about every team and didn't want to do a ton of research.
Nor do I care enough about the preseason poll (like most), so I basically threw a bunch of names on the paper between a few of the other mainstream polls and stuff I bothered to look up in the Football Outsiders Almanac.
So yeah, I wouldn’t put much stock into the preseason one. Once it comes time for the season, this should change and be much easier.
Also, since it encourages the community to play a role, we’re gonna need some help here.

It doesn't get much easier
As someone who voted on a basketball blogpoll for a while, after about the top 5-10, it gets really difficult to distinguish teams. Good luck!
Here's what we're gonna do
Everyone reading this pick an FBS team. Every week tell me if/where they should be ranked.
On a serious note, community participation is encouraged, so I’m expecting some help here.

Just curious
Why put TCU ahead of Boise State when Boise State beat TCU in the Fiesta Bowl and they return 21-22 starters?
"Hi, my name is Doug. I enjoy walks in the rain and bags of pork rinds."
I flipped a coin
And by flipped a coin I mean I looked at both of their sections is the FO Almanac.

good start
My humble opinions follow.
OVER-RANKED
TCU
Iowa
Penn St
UNC
Cincy (got totally exposed against Florida last year and lost their coach plus two best players)
UNDER-RANKED
Wisconsin
Notre Dame (as much as it pains me to say it)
Oregon St
Stanford
South Carolina
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
You know, I didn't even think of Notre Dame
I think I’m conditioned to ignoring them in the preseason.
I don’t see anything wrong with your list. I left Stanford off but I feel like they should be somewhere in the 22-25 range (or maybe replacing Cincy). I definitely felt like I over ranked PSU.
I may have put TCU too high, but when I went through and stared at the FO preview for them, I found myself convinced (they’re ranked 7th, very efficient on both sides of the ball). That’s one I struggled with in the brief time it took me to piece this together.
Besides, I figure we’re just gonna blow this thing up and start over after the first week.
why not cinn?
first they beat 3 of the teams in this ranking last year… second they have replaced their ‘lost’ players and coach with proven players that in my opinion are of equal in value…
further more
this will be the fourth season in a row that cinn will begin unranked and in my opinion vastly underrated … why? basically because very few out there do their research… pitt has 9 returning starters… cinn has 13… no teams in the BE have upgraded their offenses to compete against cinn’s … and for the past several years… offense trumps defense in this conference…
