Coug Center discussions: Favorite moments
We've covered beer, music, and smart phones, but now let's take a trip down memory lane. What were your favorite moments from college? The times that still stand out in your head years later (some many more years, some more recent).
For me, going to Bill Doba's "goodbye" press conference stands out on the athletic side. We've rehashed the favorite on-field moments in the "Where I come from" series, but as an off-field moment, Doba's press conference stands out. The whole athletic department -- and quite a few players -- attended. Coaching staffs from other sports to the higher ups in the department packed the room to say goodbye to the grandpa of the athletic department. I didn't expect standing ovations and tears from the crowd for Doba. It was a surreal moment.
Oh, and this...
Away from athletics, trips to Riggins, Idaho to raft, the Snake River and Dunes to hang out, and late nights at the Coug made my Pullman experience special. Stopping at the Coug between classes for a beer and burger between classes seemed small while I was in school, but are something I miss now that I'm gone. Pullman had so many things to do in the outlying areas that made it a special place to go to school at.
So that's my side, what's yours. What are your favorite memories from college, both athletic-based and not? This isn't limited to WSU, either. For those that went to other schools, what are some of the memories and traditions you had?

Some of you may know that I'll be a freshman this year at our fine university.
Most of my memories come from trips that I took with my parents that we classified as “Preview Trips” but were really just excuses for me and my dad to see a couple games
We went to the USC-UCLA Basketball series for the past 3 years and saw some great games, we also went to junior preview last year which had a football game included. Thankfully it was the SMU game and I saw one hell of a game. I also had a road trip from hell for another preview weekend with some friends… But that’s a different story.
Really looking forward to getting over there and getting involved.
While I’m at it, does anyone have any helpful tips to help an incoming freshman like me. You know places to eat, where to study, whatever.
Sella's!
Go to the cliffs and the dunes on hot days in August/Sept. Cougar Country is always good and so is The Coug (even if you’re not 21). I can’t think of anything more right now, but I’m sure things will come to me.

Basilio's downtown.
Sella’s as Brian mentioned. Cougar Country…I crave it on a regular basis. I miss you Pullman.

Just to follow up
My wife made me so many ebelskivers this morning that I am brutally ill …. I just couldn’t say no. I suppose there is a good reason why Old European only serves 4 at a time. 11 is waaaaaay too many.
I will be eating them tomorrow though … and maybe tonight for dinner.

Places to study
Libraries are great places to study (close to the research with group projects). Dorms also have places to study.

The library was distracting in the fall.
I would end up sitting by the windows and watching football practice. Maybe that is why my grades sucked in the fall.

Best place to study ever
Basement of Holland New Library, all the way to the northern corner. You are far enough from the field that you can’t see any action, but you do get to see cute co-eds walking up the stairs from Regents and the PE buildings.

Ya, if you are studying co-eds, which most of us majored in at Wazzu.

I started out as a Com major.
I remember my Mass Communication class and the teacher had a pony tail and talked about the War of the Worlds with Orson Welles. I can’t remember the teacher’s name. It think it was fall of 98. I can’t believe I made it through that class. It was long and I would always get sleepy.

I am going to be a comm (Broadcsting) major
But for some reason I was convinced to go into the Honors College. Once I make it past these first two years… I’m set.
Cougar Football 2010: *FOCUSTENSITY!*
Is Talfinger really skinny?
He was probably in his 30’s and may have been a GA. This guy looked like he should have been at Berkley.

OH I KNOW EXACTLY WHO YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT
I had that guy for a class. He was a grad student, and I dropped his class. Why? Because he was arbitrarily screwing with grades. I don’t even mess around with that. It’s not a game.
So screw him.
Ya, I didn't like him either.
If I remember right he had reddish hair in a pony tail. We had 75+ students in the class…large class. I think there was 2 tests (mid-term & final) and one paper and that was it. Make or or break.
One of my favorite GAs was a guy who was trying out to be a major league umpire. It was an entry level Com class. He loved to talk about baseball and had good stories. He was a bigger guy (similar to Drew Carey) had a buzz cut and glasses. I think his first name was Guy or something like that. Cool dude.

Yep.
In the Drew Carey guys class I had an A- in the class and my goal was an A and I was few points short after the final. I went into to see him about it — he first grilled me and then he had me sit in his office and see if I could answer every students question who came in. He ended up giving me an A class. He was way cooler than redhead pony tail guy — redhead pony tail guy would have never done that and he was clear about that. Jerk.

Taffy was a great actor
Richard Taflinger performed many, many plays at WSU while he was an undergrad and grad student as well. Truly a good one. I saw him in several productions and he was quite good.

Nice views
Orton 12th floor, Olympia, Webster 12th floor and Rogers 12th floor have great views of WSU and Pullman. A great view of the Palouse is at Steptoe Butte. Did I miss anything else?

The ORC does not really check credentials before renting rafting equipment
Also, I scoffed at wearing a wet suit, even thought it was the beginning of May. Hey, it was 75 degrees outside! Too bad the water was about 45 degrees …
Keg riding on the Snake
We used to drink the thing to half empty and then take it out on the water and see who could ride it the longest… sun burns and water in the ears… awesome days of being young and dumb and full of…. fun.

Valhalla has some pretty good lunch specials.
I would stop there in between classes. College is great.

That was a regular Wednesday night
Go to Valhalla for happy hour pitchers and grab wings. So awesome.
That's funny.
I’ve been in the same place with you and Grady so many times and have not met either of you.
