James Montgomery Arrested For Outstanding Warrant
Komo News is reporting James Montgomery turned himself in and was arrested last night because of an outstanding warrant. The senior running back had a warrant out for his arrest stemming from a driving with a suspended license charge.
Komo has the rest of the report (h/t well you win some you lose some)
Montgomery turned himself in at the Pullman Police Station at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, and was placed under arrest.
He was later released after posting his $1,000 bond.
An arrest is never good, but try not to get too worked up about this. The charge is a simple misdemeanor driving offense and could be a situation where Montgomery forgot to take care of a citation or was a simple misunderstanding.
It's unknown whether Montgomery traveled or will play this weekend against SMU or what, if any, discipline he faces.
If he's held out of the game, Chantz Staden will likely step-in, with Carl Winston and the rest of the Cougar running backs splitting time in the rotation.
Update: Grippi has a quick note on Montgomery.
Montgomery, who was cited for failure to appear on a previous traffic-related misdemeanor charge, made the trip to Dallas and participated in Friday's walk-through prior to today's game at Southern Methodist.
Grippi says the coaches are aware and have handled it. He's expected to play.

I'd like to extend a warm welome back to the sarchasm.
We haven’t seen it in a while
Cougar999 version 2.0. Now with a shorter name!
Great to see some sarchasm back in this place.

Not that it matters
KXLY (KOMO’s affiliate in Spokane) broke this story a lot earlier and it is stunning no one else picked this up until now.
That aside, this is amazing..another mis-step, by a player who has so much to gain this year.
Can we have one season without some horrible injury news or a player arrested. It is one thing after a freaking ’other!
This is kind of odd
On the one hand, getting arrested is serious and could jeopardize him possibility of playing this week and in the future. On the other hand, this is one of the tamest things one could get arrested for.
A friend of mine got arrested for driving with a suspended license stemming from a couple speeding tickets and misunderstanding with an insurance company. This could be a non-issue or it could be a suspension. I don’t really know.
yep,
same thing happened to my friend. He also happened to get arrested (and put in the cop car) for it the night he took his girlfriend out for her 21 run… she was pissed lol
We might know the same person

Not saying he should get suspended or anything,
But cmon. You are taking a scholarship in return for your participation in a collegiate program. Please, please, just handle your shit. This kind of stuff is so aggravating.
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
Grippi says Montgomery is expected to play Saturday.

He’s the best at everything, especially play action. Did you see that play fake he made with his career last winter?
I'm going to go all Star Jones on ya
As a lawyer, I can tell you that DWLS3 is the lowest “criminal” charge on the totem pole. Most prosecutors I know wish this “offense” was de-criminalized (and simply made an infraction.)
Here’s what will happen: James will pay off the speeding ticket that is blocking his license (my sources tell me that it is out of Ritzville.) His license will be reinstated. And the Whitman County prosecutor will reduce the DWLS3 charge to No Valid Operator’s License on Person (or NVOL2), an infraction.
It’s OK …
That comment
Makes me think that your a lawyer or you play one on TV.

Thanks for the good info DesMoines.
Being arrested sounds bad, but I think this issue will be cleared up soon. If it was something serious he would not be at SMU about to play tomorrow.

This is so tame
By all accounts Montgomery is a great kid. That doesn’t mean he still can’t make a mistake but this is much ado about nada!
He'll just have to pay a fine, and it'll be done with.
I got pulled over and my license was suspended without me knowing. It was from a ticket that I paid in a different state that hadn’t cleared…because it was from a different state. Makes complete sense. (Or not. Stupid South Dakota)
Anyway, I explained everything, showed them I paid the ticket, they reduced the fine, I paid like $100, and then had to pay an extra $75 when renewing my license. Other than that, I’m good to go.
He should be fine. At least he wasn’t Xavier Hicks 2.0
exactly why this offense should be de-criminalized
…. now, driving with a major suspension like a DUI suspension or back-owed child support suspension, that’s another matter completely (DWLS2).
why didn't he show up in court though?
i guess that was my only issue here.
he got the ticket: fine
he didn’t pay the ticket: screw the state patrol. i’m still with you
he got the 2nd ticket: again, fine
why didn’t he go to court after that?
