WSU Vs. Arizona State: Postgame Celebration Thread
494 Yards for Connor Halliday. Huge throw after huge throw. Gigantic catches all over the place by Marquess Wilson, Jared Karstetter and Isiah Barton.
If you read my preview, you know I had next to no faith that this would happen. However, we knew that Halliday was a bit of a wild card. Wow....was he ever.
ASU was poised to put this game away midway through the fourth quarter. But a huge fourth down stuff by Brandon Rankin gave the team a new energy. A third down catch and run by Rickey Galvin got WSU out of trouble. A third-and-fourteen TD pass to Isiah Barton gave the Cougs the lead.
The defense held in the red zone again on the ensuing ASU possession, leading to a missed chip shot field goal. The offense was able to drive 80 yards for the game clinching TD after two, you guessed it, MASSIVE third down catches by our beloved MQW.
As Mark said, MQW is now the single-season receiving yardage record holder for WSU. What a day for him. 222 yards and three scores. His best day as a Coug.
And most certainly, this coaching staff's most impressive win. 37-27. Whodathunkit?
GO COUGS!

Of course the first comment has to be about the coach.
On the first night we’ve gotten to really enjoy football in two months, the first comment is about Paul Wulff’s job status. Naturally.

I dunno
To me it’s good news, I like Wulff
(at least I didn’t say “first!”)
Just one thing about it, Coach Wulff.....
Fix up the special teams so we do not get that first touchdown upset. It nearly killed half the alumni…. That is alll.

The Cougs didn't win the turnover battle, had some godawful special teams play, and won by ten.
Yep.
CougCenter In Reid We Trust, Twitter!
I was thinking about that
My three keys in CSW?
1. Stay out of passing downs. We were in plenty.
2. Limit Jamal Miles and Cameron Marshall. Miles had a return TD.
3. Get some good fortune. Only one TO for ASU, and that was when the game was basically decided.
Why do people even listen to us? We clearly don’t know shit.

Speak for yourselves. I was all over this
Is it just me or did anyone else not realize WSU has lost seven straight games to ASU? Sure there have been some recent frustrating losses, but seven straight? All that will come to a end tomorrow and here are three reasons why.
1. Last season more than a few people thought the Cougs might beat ASU. They then got trounced 42-0. This season 77 percent of you are picking ASU. Based on the latest CougCenter polling data, teams picked to win in the weekly poll lose 100 percent of the time by an average score of 30-7. Suck on those numbers Sun Devils!
2. Arizona State has an all-time record of 2-3 in games played in Pullman during the month of November. They already have a 60 percent chance of losing the minute they step off the plane.
3. WSU is 6-3-2 in their last 11 games played on November 12. Bowl eligible without even needing to play 12 games. Sparky picked the wrong day to mess with the Cougs.

That is what makes this win even more impressive.
I thought for sure we would need a couple timely TO’s to win. Sure ASU had a few drops but other than that Lady Luck didn’t really play a part in this game. Just a solid effort on both sides and a transcendent game from MQW. Oh yeah and that Halliday kid was OK.

Defense played with heart
I was very critical of the defensive effort after the OSU loss, and others pointed out that it was probably just bad play, but solid effort. Point taken. But tonight, they gave up big several big passing plays, but their effort was lights out. I’m aware that effort doesn’t always match the results. They were aggressive in the trenches and playing with energy. I got a great look at Ball’s intensity and how the defense was eager to be on the field; I was in the front row of the student section tonight. They wanted this badly, and stepped up when needed against a solid ASU offense that seemed (disappointingly) unaffected by the elements for the most part. I tip my hat to Ball and Co. tonight.
Not so sure I agree about the weather not being a factor
ASU has run the ball pretty well. They looked to me like they didn’t really want to hit.
A great story for all you guys.
Before the game, my buddy Jeff and I were walking around. We saw some ASU coaches and wished them “good luck.” One of them laughed, looked at us and said, “We won’t need any.”
In their defense, they didn’t know about CONNOR MUTHERF’IN HALLIDAY.
