APPLE CUP 2011: WSU Vs. Washington Open Football Game Thread
Washington St. Cougars at Washington Huskies, Nov 26, 2011 4:30 PM PST
Game time for the 2011 Apple Cup is finally upon us. We've spent the day here at CougCenter covering all the angles, and this is the tenth post since this morning. If you missed any of the coverage, go ahead and click the "complete coverage" link above.
While this is the first and only game this season where the Cougs aren't playing for a bowl game, the Apple Cup always means something, as Grady detailed in his Apple Cup Tailgater's Guide. There is pride on the line, and also the added incentive of handing the Huskies their fourth straight loss and sending them to a lower-tier bowl in a season where they once had much higher hopes.
There is also the head coach question. As Nuss asked earlier, is Paul Wulff playing for his job in the Apple Cup? The players seem to like this staff, and it will be interesting to see if they let the drive of saving their jobs push them to play harder.
This is the last game for a group of seniors who have struggled as much as any group in Cougar history. Even with that, they can go out with an even record against the Huskies (the fifth years actually can have a winning record). Not something many classes have done before them and Apple Cup victories can quickly endear certain teams to Coug fans. The WSU athletic site needs more "Great Moments in Apple Cup History" videos. It would be nice for them to make one today.
As always, we'll be in the game thread with jokes, knee-jerk analysis and most likely plenty of Husky hate. If you are one of the many that have discovered CougCenter for the first time today, we invite you to create a free account and comment along with us.
Go Cougs!

I'm rocking an old WSU football shirt
Haven’t worn it for a game yet this season. And my normal hoody.
Did the announcer say
That this is perhaps Lobster’s last game. Perhaps his last game? Really, because the fifth year senior that can’t go to a bowl game might decide to Occupy Martin and keep playing next year.

Will alternate between Ocho Rojo and Rock Lobster
I have a Cougar shirt that says:
This is our Crimson. It’s not Crimson red. It’s not dark Crimson, and definitely not any other Crimson. This is our Crimson. Crimson and Gray. Win the day with Crimson and Gray. This is much better than any other Crimson.
So, Go Cougs.

Point differential is not a valid stat for evaluating football
Especially when you play Idaho State and UNLV
Writer: CougCenter Twitterer: @Grady_WSU

CougCenter In Reid We Trust, Twitter!
by Craig Powers on Nov 26, 2011 5:08 PM PST up reply actions
Strength of schedule varies so much between teams that you can't view a 0 differential as "average"
That’s what I mean.
Yes, it is good news when we blow out those teams, though

And really it’s just that the Huskies are faster

My experience on that TD
My inlaws are about to leave. They are not huge football fans and kept asking what I’m seeing on the twitters while I try and explain what a blog is.
They walk out the door, Lobbster runs it in. MIL opens the door for a hug, TD called back. Door closes as Lobbster throws a TD.
They are now on the way to the airport and I have a brief window of watching the game alone. I fee good things will happen.
Opened a beer
it sucked doing it without the “top off” regular openers are so hard.
I think the team deserves some credit for overcoming that wave of emotion / bad events

I need a Locker pick 6.
It’s a thing I’ve wanted the whole time he’s been here, especially AC.
At least it's halftime coming up

Everyone take a deep breath
We get the ball to start the second half. And going into half at 21-14 would be a big win after that first quarter.
Also, Nick Holt is still UW’s defensive coach, and still horrible at his job.

I would loved to be tied though....WITH the ball in the second half...

So would I
But that first quarter was awful, they should have been up 21-0 or 28-0. To be down 7 getting the ball is a win for us.
I’m not saying we will win, I’m saying we haven’t lost.
