HOT COUGAR ACTION: Predictions For WSU Vs Cal
Usually when I sort through prediction articles for the links, there is somewhat of a consensus. Typically that consensus is the other team will win, but it's a consensus nonetheless. This week there seems to be more disparity with more than one outlet picking WSU.
Because I'm curious (ok I'm too lazy to write an actual intro) let's take it to the polls to see what you all think.

WSU is nearly ready for Cal - SportsLink - Spokesman.com - Nov. 3, 2011
Washington State's Thursday walk-through is over so that means the preparation for California is pretty much over as well. We have some on that and how it relates to what coach Paul Wulff had to say at his short news conference as well. Read on.

Considering the setting, Washington State had one of their better offensive showings with 462 yards last week at Oregon. But WSU struggled to turn all the yards into points with just two offensive touchdowns...

PULLMAN -- Freshmen and sophomores occupy 24 of the 44 spots on Washington State’s two-deep depth chart, and plenty of other talented youngsters are redshirting this season with the Cougars. The redshirts who seem to be drawing the most attention from WSU coaches, players and practice observers?

Ryan Leaf is finally at peace with himself. That means he's OK if you label him a NFL bust, OK if you think he threw away a potentially good career and OK with how you view his work ethic.

Are there any links to any of his ESPN "car wash"?
I missed all of it because, you know, I WORK. Would love to see/hear some of what he did.
I could only find a few
Here’s video of him on SportsCenter. And here’s a list of audio interviews he was on. I saw the interview from OTL with Bob Ley and loved it. It was fantastic.

Red shirt report
Everytime I read about who is waiting in the wings, I just get the feeling that good things are around the corner. Once we get some depth on our lines, we will be a whole new team.
Judging by the poll, we are way more confident than we should be.
As of right now, 72.8% of people are predicting a Cougar victory?

We must be feeling a little more optimistic now
When readers filled out their report cards for the UCLA game, they predicted a 38% chance of a Cal victory.

The problem with this poll is the lack of undecided.

But looking at it another way...
At the moment, 80% are predicting a “close” game (<2TD victory either way).
Aim High - GO COUGS
9.5 points seems like free money
And Cougs +310 straight up is a smart play.
But betting on the Cougs is a dumb move regardless.

I had a brain fart
and was thinking we were at home. My bad.
Vegas gave the 9.5 because it is in San Fran, not Berkeley.

I think the "less than 2 TDs" is misleading.
Because if people were thinking we’d win by a FG, that’s much understandable. It’s also a lot different than winning by 13.
I’m shocked that that many people think the Cougs are going to win. I know Cal is bad, but … have you seen us play at all this year? I’m not saying we don’t have a chance, but 70% think the Cougs will win? 70? That’s huge. I figured it’d be about a 55/45 split in favor of Cal, or somewhere close to 50/50.
ugh
that’s much more understandable*

Same with me
I thought at the beginning of the week that we would beat them, but that was probably just a bit of the optimism from the Oregon game still. The more that people bring up all their offensive woes and stats, I get the feeling we’re going to have an OSU part-two kind of performance.

The whole time I have been thinking this game is in Pullman and I don't know why.
I change my mind. Since it is in San Fran, I think Cal wins. I need to change my vote.

i think you've mistaken this for a scientific poll
I voted cougs by 2+ tds just for kicks

Am I the only one
seeing similarities between this game and OSU? It seems too many people are thinking “Our defense played swell against Oregon so they are going to play swell again at Cal.” I feel that this is another game that the fanbase has the expectations of winning, but I’m not sold on us pulling this one out. Hope they prove me wrong.

It's not just that,
It’s also that they see how swell Cal played UCLA last week and hope they play that swell against us.

Heres what it is
I think that just the fact that Cougar games have become watchable has generated some fan enthusiasm. With the exception of a few games, 2008-10 were guaranteed losses week in and week out. Now, I at least feel like we have a fighting chance most games and I am excited about it. No more games that will be decided by halftime. The Cougs have had some let downs this year, but young teams are supposed to improve as the season goes along. I expect to see some of that improvement starting tomorrow with a win at Cal.
BTW – you earned a rec from me too. I use swell far too little in my vocabulary.
